HERALD REVIEW
— Lottery lights way on Rauner’s merit pay proposal – DAN PETRELLA  (DIERSEN: Measuring job performance is extremely subjective.  My Democrat GAO superiors in the federal government used that subjectivity to favor their employees who were Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger, that is, they used that subjectivity to discriminate against their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or older.  My superiors in the federal government were always under pressure from Democrat politicians to favor their employees who were Democrat, minority, female, and/or younger.  Charles Bowsher, who ran GAO 1981-1996, would say that his pay-for-performance system helped him get rid of the agency’s employees who were Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)
http://herald-review.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/lottery-lights-way-on-rauner-s-merit-pay-proposal/article_17f6db23-423b-59e9-909f-bc194b428831.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: But AFSCME spokesman Anders Lindall said that characterization misrepresents much of the work that state employees do. While performance might be easily measurable for some workers, such as “an exceedingly small number of employees” at the Lottery, that’s not the case across the board, Lindall said. “How would one fairly and accurately quantify the performance of a child protection investigator or a nurse assistant in a veterans home or a caregiver for someone with disabilities?” he said. “We’re skeptical that can be done.” Another problem is that the Rauner administration has failed to provide the union with adequate information about its pay proposals, Lindall said, which is one of the reasons the administrative law judge gave for recommending that contract talks resume. Lindall also noted that the Lottery program offers bonuses on top of any contractually guaranteed raises, whereas the administration’s proposals at the bargaining table have called for a wage freeze to accompany merit pay programs. “We think that if there is money to raise wages, then that should be distributed fairly across the whole workforce,” he said.)

HUFFINGTON POST
— Evanston Township High School Class of 1966’ 50th Reunion: You CAN Go Home Again – Miles J. Zaremski (DIERSEN: Crete-Monee High School Class of 1966 held its outstanding 50th reunion yesterday evening at the Lincolnshire Country Club in Crete.  Of the 200 graduates, 100 responded to the event questionnaire, 67 attended one or more of three weekend events, and 31 spouses/guests attended one or more of the events.  Sadly, 48 of the 200 have passed away.  I was one of the few who had attended all three of the previous reunions – the 25th in Beecher, the 20th in Matteson, and the 10th in Homewood.  One of my classmates, Dennis Peters from Morris, ran for state representative in 1998.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Not so for the 50th high school reunion of the Class of 1966 from Evanston Township High School (ETHS) in Evanston, Illinois held the weekend of September 9-10, 2016. This writer happens to be one of those graduates. This reunion for a class of a little over 900 graduates drew nearly a third, or about 300 attendees, to the main affair on Saturday night the 10th. It was quite a high-water mark, though preceded that day by a tour of the high school followed by a luncheon. The night before was an informal get-together at a locally, well-known restaurant that well outdrew the anticipated attendance.)
