— DuPage County Divided Over Drawing of County Election Precinct Maps

For the second time now, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, Independents, and RINOs have drawn me in to the same DuPage County Milton Precinct 9 in Wheaton with Jeanne Ives.)
https://www.nctv17.com/news/top-stories/dupage-county-divided-over-drawing-of-county-election-precinct-maps/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: DuPage County voters could find they are grouped into fewer, larger precincts come the next election. Why Now? A new piece of legislation signed into law in November 2021 and discussed Tuesday at the county finance committee meeting reduces the number of DuPage County election precincts from 930 to 607. The current draft of the redrawn maps leaves fewer committeemen to serve as the voice of the voters, thereby impacting whether a party may be elected. What’s At Issue? Board member Amy Chavez said some precinct committee members and township officials have reached out to her, asking for changes to the proposed election precinct maps. “I think there is a lot of concern over these new lines,” Chavez said. Board member Sam Tornatore said something has to give. “It’s essentially a political attempt to change boundaries within precincts,” Tornatore said. The new state legislation comes on the heels of the county board agreeing on a new DuPage County redistricting map in a bipartisan effort in October 2021. Deputy County Clerk Adam Johnson said he stands by the election precinct maps put together by county clerk’s office staff. “It’s unavoidable that there’s going to be some people who are not happy with the way the maps turn out,” Johnson said. “Certainly, we’re open to constructive criticism on how that process could have been better massaged.” Board member Jim Zay said he would not support the precinct maps as proposed given the lack of time allotted for input. “We have a job to do,” Zay said. “This is not putting us in the best position to do our job.” Johnson tried to address concerns about the county clerk’s office getting input on the precinct maps. “While there hasn’t been a lot of time for as many outside parties to review the maps, from the feedback I have received, I haven’t heard much in the way of actual substantive complaints of how the maps were drawn in terms of meeting the state legislature’s requirements,” Johnson said. Tornatore said he doesn’t want to place blame on the county clerk’s office, but he believes taxpayer money may have been wasted. “I don’t know that the election division contemplated this legislation coming from Springfield,” Tornatore said. “I know it’s been kind of on the back burner. … Perhaps we should have taken it into consideration before we ordered as many printers as we did. But I’m going to presume that we have a printer for every precinct that if we now have 300-plus fewer precincts, we either should get a rebate for the money we spent or we’re going to have a lot of printers being stored that aren’t being used.” The county board authorized the purchase of new voting equipment valued at roughly $7.2 million in October 2021. That contract as awarded includes funding to pay for printers, among other things. The county has been in the process of matching polling places with election precincts to determine which ones will be combined into a single location. Officials anticipate a reduction in the number of polling places, but they believe the amount of new printers purchased will remain appropriate for the layout of available voting locations. Moving Forward. County board members acknowledge they don’t have a lot of time to spare. The election precinct maps need to be adopted no later than Friday. A special county board meeting on this topic is scheduled for Friday at 8 a.m.)

POLITICO ILLINOIS
— SCOOP: Republican Steve Kim is throwing his hat in the ring to challenge Democratic Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, nearly rounding out a Republican slate for the June 28 primary. Kim is a familiar name on the political scene, having challenged Democratic AG Lisa Madigan when she ran for reelection in 2010. Kim was also the running mate to Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Rutherford in the 2014 primary contest that ultimately went to Bruce Rauner. A source close to Kim’s campaign said he would be part of a slate that includes state Rep. Tom Demmer for treasurer, former U.S. Attorney John Milhiser for secretary of state, and McHenry County Auditor Shannon Teresi for auditor, who announced yesterday. Don’t be surprised if Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin leads the slate as the gubernatorial candidate. These candidates aren’t the only Republicans running for statewide offices, but by teaming up they hope to have an advantage securing a statewide seat (or seats) that are now controlled by Democrats. Abby Witt, executive director of the Democratic Party of Illinois, calls the slate a “Rauner Reboot” that’s being run by Ken Griffin. Actually, Griffin has so far kept out of the statewide races — though he’s acknowledged wanting to defeat Gov. JB Pritzker. For his part, Kim said the AG job is “critical to repairing the state’s reputation as a haven for crime and public corruption.” And like Teresi did yesterday, he invoked Michael Madigan, the former House speaker, in his remarks, saying, “Under JB Pritzker and Mike Madigan, Springfield remains a cesspool run for the benefit of the politicians and insiders and not the people of Illinois.” Kim, born in South Korea, is an attorney with an expertise in international issues. He was an adviser to former Gov. Jim Edgar on trade and Asian affairs, a trustee in Northfield Township, and an international affairs director for the State Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as a member of the Rules Committee of the Illinois Supreme Court. In the private sector, Kim worked on internal and external affairs with Ameritech, now AT&T, while going to law school at night. After earning his law degree, Kim was VP of government and public affairs at Time Warner. He’s since practiced law at a boutique firm that advises small- and medium-size companies. . .Republican Cook County Commissioner Peter Silvestri won’t seek reelection: He was first elected in 1994. “I’m thinking that there’s other things I want to do, like maybe teach or practice more law … and just have more time with my friends and family,” Silvestri said in a phone interview with the Tribune’s Alice Yin. “I hope that my legacy is that I tried to represent the people of our area to the best of my ability, understanding the social and financial limitations that government has.” . . .Pete DiCianni has been unanimously endorsed by the Addison Township Republican Organization for DuPage County Board chairman. Di Cianni currently serves as the commissioner of the 2nd District. – Shia Kapos

— Top Kane County GOP official calls election precinct redraw ‘a farce’ – James Fuller
(COMMENT: What have the following told your Republican Precinct Committeeman about the redraw: a) the chairman of your Republican township party organization, b) the chairman of your Republican county party organization, c) your representative on the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee, and d) the IRP chairman?)
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20220107/top-kane-county-gop-official-calls-election-precinct-redraw-a-farce
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A behind-the-scenes process of redrawing election precincts in Kane County sparked concerns Friday about election integrity and what will be one of the shortest primary election campaign seasons in recent history. Recent state legislation approved in the wake of the decennial redistricting effort requires counties to redraw election precinct boundary lines by Jan. 15. The changes will affect every race on the 2022 ballot. New rules require precincts to sit within a single congressional and state legislative district whenever possible as well as a single county board district and municipal ward. Many counties regularly split or merge precincts to avoid them becoming too large or small for Democrat and Republican Party committeemen to properly represent constituents on partisan matters. Party committeemen are the foot soldiers of local political parties. The influence of those roles carries particular intrigue for local Republicans who are loyal to former President Donald Trump and continue to support the debunked claims of fraud in the 2020 election. The 2022 elections bring an opportunity for Trump loyalists to take control of the local party. Which voters live in which precincts will be a factor in that GOP battle. Kane County hasn’t adjusted its 291 precincts in nearly 20 years. That’s created 28 precincts that contain far more registered voters than the 1,200-voter cap target suggested by state legislation. Multiple precincts contain fewer than the 500 registered voters state law suggests is too small for a stand-alone precinct. A self-appointed team of workers in the county clerk’s office, information technology department, graphics information system staff, lawyers in the state’s attorney’s office and the chairman of the county board’s public service committee have spent the past several weeks redrawing the precinct boundaries. Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog has also been involved. She serves as vice chair of the Kane County Democrats. Except for Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham, who is a Republican, all the elected officials involved so far are Democrats. The public will get a look at the redrawn precincts on Tuesday. There will be a final vote on the remap Friday, one day before the state deadline. That’s not enough review or involvement in the process for several GOP members of the county board. “It’s a farce to suggest this committee has had any role or involvement in this at all,” said Ken Shepro, a county board member and chairman of the Kane County Republican Party. “No member of this committee has been asked to participate in any of these meetings or give any guidance.” Fellow Republican Tom Koppie said the process and the tight deadlines mean the county board will be “forced to accept maps generated by the bureaucracy.” “I do not believe this is what the voting public anticipated or expects,” Koppie said. Anita Lewis, a Democrat on the board who tends to side with Republicans, questioned the process. “And I’m not going to be able to say beyond a shadow of a doubt that everything was done right,” Lewis said. “I just don’t have that comfort level.” Even if the county board approves the new precinct boundaries next Friday, the county staff said it may take up until the first week of February to have maps paired with voter rolls that will allow candidates to collect accurate petition signatures. Petition filing for candidates seeking the top ballot spots is March 7. Candidates normally have 90 days to circulate petitions. Both county board members and the clerk’s office staff said they expect more petition challenges to kick candidates off the ballot because of the tight window and an increased likelihood of signatures from people who find themselves in different precincts.)

(COMMENT: Politics is nasty. Politics is vicious. When our mother died in 2016, my brother and I inherited her 40-by-100 foot lot near the Lincolnshire Country Club in Crete. She had inherited it from my father’s mother’s sister. The deed contains an offensive restrictive covenant. If I were to seek a political office again, including Republican Precinct Committeeman for DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes in the Milton Township Republican Organization would a) stress to the voters in my precinct that I own half interest in land that has an offensive restrictive covenant and b) demand that my brother and I have that covenant removed. They would use the aforesaid to paint me, paint my brother, paint my parents, paint my grandparents, paint my great grandparents, and paint the rest of my ancestors as being racists and even worse things.)

NEW YORK POST
— ‘Minority privilege’ now more common amid the growing ‘war on whiteness’ – Rav Arora
(COMMENT: In 1997, when I was 49 years old, my Democrat GAO superiors replaced me with my Black subordinate. In 1971, when I was 22 years old, Oldsmobile withdrew a job offer that I had accepted saying that it had just agreed to stop hiring Whites to settle an EEOC complaint. How soon, if not already, will your employer if you are still employed, the organizations that you are a member of, the governments that you are under, etc. officially announce that they getting rid of Whites once and for all, except those Whites who help them get rid of Whites? Of course, the first Whites to be gotten rid of are Whites who are law enforcement officers, Trump supporters, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, male, older, heterosexual, married, non-poor, gun owners, Christian, Protestant, Italian American, German American, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. I should write a book about Whites who get rid of other Whites. I would focus on those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois.)
https://nypost.com/2022/01/08/minority-privilege-is-now-more-common-than-white-privilege/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The left is furious about “white privilege.” And while it’s true white people have benefited from major advantages over time, it’s a concept that is rapidly fading — especially now, as the reverse is coming true. Minorities are increasingly becoming privileged while growing numbers of white people face discrimination. Diversity initiatives have been around for years, but over the past year and a half, innumerable companies and corporations have ramped up their efforts with the goal of “diversifying” their workforce. Tech giant Facebook, for example, has committed to half of its employees coming from “underrepresented communities” (i.e., black, Native American, and Hispanic) by 2023. Best Buy is hiring one person of color for every three new hires over the next five years. United Airlines has promised that at least half of the pilots they will train in the next decade will be women and “people of color” (currently, only 13 percent of pilots are people of color). In May, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot suddenly declared she will only give interviews to “journalists of color” — something that would be an impeachable offense if the situation was reversed (only giving interviews to “white journalists”). The push to promote people of color has become so pervasive that the most objective scientific institutions have seemingly become captive to woke ideology. For example, the NIH and CDC use taxpayer dollars to incentivize biomedical research labs to hire ethnic minorities because “research shows that diverse teams working together and capitalizing on innovative ideas and distinct perspectives outperform homogenous teams” — without quoting or citing any actual research. Minorities are now even advantaged when seeking medical treatment. Last week, the New York City and state departments of health authorized life-saving antiviral treatment for COVID-19 for everyone belonging to a “non-white race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity” regardless of risk factors, but for whites, only those with risk factors are allowed it. The DOH cites its rationale as: “longstanding systemic health and social inequities have contributed to an increased risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19.” Meanwhile, the rise of minority advantage has come with a parallel war on whiteness, especially in academia. In June, the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association — “one of the world’s most respected publications in psychoanalysis” — printed a peer-reviewed paper entitled “On Having Whiteness.” The abstract of the paper describes “whiteness” as a “malignant, parasitic-like condition” requiring “effective treatment consist[ing] of a combination of psychic and social-historical interventions.” It adds, “there is not yet a permanent cure.” There are real, accredited university courses that instruct anti-white racism: “Race Theory & the Problem of Whiteness” (Arizona State University) and “Abolition of Whiteness” (Hunter College). Institutionalized anti-white bigotry has escalated to genocidal rhetoric. As Bari Weiss revealed in her recent Substack piece, Yale University hosted a lecture by Dr. Aruna Khilanani this year about the “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind,” where the speaker revealed her fantasies to kill white people. Other than university administrators later saying the lecture was found to have “tone and content antithetical to the values of the school,” the backlash was tempered. While social media erupted and Khilanani’s Manhattan-based practice is now closed for unknown reasons, she still has her license. One can only imagine the riotous demonstrations that would have reverberated across the country had Yale hosted a talk about “The Psychopathic Problem of the Black Mind.” The upshot is that pro-minority bias is not only permitted but socially incentivized. Employers, professors and administrators are lauded for implementing radical diversity initiatives. As minorities are preferentially hired across the board and given a host of other benefits by way of their genetic lottery, we must fundamentally reframe our discourse surrounding race relations. While “white privilege” may still exist in some margins of society, it no longer reflects the progressive era we live in.)

https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/01/07/army-officer-relieved-of-command-facing-discharge-over-racist-social-media-posts.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: While Spillane’s lawyer, Sean Timmons, managing partner with Tully Rinckey’s Houston office, agrees his client’s posts are indeed offensive, the discharge status raises the stakes — any status that isn’t honorable can have dire consequences for a veteran. So-called “bad paper” discharges can exclude a veteran from benefits, mostly the GI Bill; hurt employment opportunities; and overall leave the veteran with a stigma that’s difficult to shake off. Because of that, Timmons wants the Army to allow Spillane to leave with an honorable discharge.)
