— Where are Darren Bailey and the Illinois GOP?
https://wgntv.com/politics-3/where-is-darren-bailey-and-the-illinois-gop/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A sexual harassment scandal. Crime concerns. There is no shortage of issues Illinois republicans could pounce on; but other than fanning the flames on social media and issuing press releases, they’ve been fairly quiet. Republican candidate for governor Darren Bailey hasn’t held a press conference in more than a month in the Chicago region. His team posted a picture of a meet-and-greet at a Pilsen restaurant last week that featured 12 people in the frame. We’re a little more than three months before the election. “I do think people are making these points; but they’re making them in the silos,” said Richard Porter, a former Republican National Committeeman from Illinois. “I think there’s a mistake people make. We’re online so much. You’re connecting with people all over the state and it’s really cool; but I think the thing we need to realize is the algorithm drives us to meet the people that think the way we think. “They’re not introducing us to people who are undecided or unaware of what our issues are.” The stealth approach to campaigning is also surprising given that Bailey’s opponent — billionaire incumbent Gov. JB Pritzker — has a campaign war chest of more than $25 million compared to Bailey’s less than $1 million raised. Traditionally, candidates who are low on money clamor for the publicity of photo ops and interviews with local media. Bailey’s campaign said the farmer-turned-politician is currently focusing on energizing supporters downstate and will spend ample time in the Chicago region soon. The campaign contends voters aren’t yet paying attention to the November race. Bailey lost to Pritzker by nearly 13 points in 2022. Analysts said his past strategy of focusing on downstate voters and appealing to Trump supporters, put simply, couldn’t overcome the democratic vote in Northeast Illinois. They suggested that he needs to win over swing suburban voters. Previously, Bailey said he got the message this time around. He made it known that he and his wife were renting a condo in Chicago. He showed up to make an appeal to city voters during the public comments section of a City Council meeting in May, where he apologized for previously referring to Chicago as a “hellhole.” Bailey has also downplayed his previous support of Trump and acknowledged his pro-life beliefs won’t change state abortion laws. His running mate, Aaron Del Mar, is from Cook County and frequently makes media appearances. Bailey has said he would work to repeal the SAFE-T Act if elected governor. However, it’s unclear how he would do that, given Democrats hold super-majorities in both chambers of the legislature. He’s also repeatedly criticized Democrats — and judges — for being too lenient on people accused of committing crimes. But Bailey hasn’t driven that message home — and distinguished GOP and democratic strategies — with news conferences and photo ops at crime scenes. Porter sees that as a missed opportunity: “There is, on the left, there is sometimes an excusing for this violence that we on the right reject,” Porter told WGN-TV. “The people who are the subject of the violence, they don’t want to — they share the view — they’re available to us [as voters] to understand crime has to stop. We should not have a laissez-faire attitude toward criminals.”)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Illinois Republican Party chair Bob Grogan aims to shake off ‘Stockholm syndrome’ of struggling state GOP. Shut out of statewide office for a decade, the new face of the Illinois GOP is appealing to a suburban base that has evaporated under President Donald Trump.
https://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/2026/07/20/bob-grogan-illinois-republican-party-new-chairperson-dupage-county-auditor
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It doesn’t take a professional auditor to conclude the Illinois Republican Party is stuck in a rut, but the state GOP is hoping one can get them back on the path to relevance. Nearly 12 years removed from their last statewide election victory and long relegated to super-minority status in Springfield, Republicans have tapped former DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan to chair the state party, aiming to revitalize the suburban base that has largely abandoned the GOP under President Donald Trump. Grogan spent 12 years as an elected watchdog keeping tabs on various arms of the county government, and he has no misconceptions about his new volunteer post recruiting candidates, fundraising and, most importantly, attempting to unite a fractured party. “You get blamed for everything and credit for nothing,” Grogan told the Sun-Times. “I’m not in it for the glory. I like to say professionally, what I do is I fix broken things. And that’s my audit background, where you find problems, and you don’t play ‘gotcha.’ You just say, ‘Here’s a list of solutions. Let’s try to go out and do it.’” He’ll need a long list in the wake of his predecessor, Kathy Salvi, who wasn’t able to make many statewide inroads before Grogan unseated her in a May vote by the Republican State Central Committee. “She was more aspirational, and I’m more operational,” said Grogan, who doesn’t embrace Trump quite as enthusiastically as Salvi did. Grogan compared the president to an “elephant in the china shop.” “We share a lot of the same goals. We definitely don’t share a style,” the Downers Grove resident said, referring to Trump. “I come from a totally different background. I’m a boring CPA. He’s a reality TV show, New York real estate developer … But he’s got the hardest job in the world, and I probably have the second hardest job in the world, being chairman of the Illinois Republican Party.” Trump has certainly complicated matters for the state party in the suburbs, which provided the lifeblood of the Illinois GOP for generations. Former President Joe Biden won DuPage County by 18 percentage points in 2024. Grogan contends the “evolution in the suburbs” started under former President Barack Obama. But he acknowledges the headwinds the MAGA movement has brought to suburbs that used to be reliably red. “[Trump] brought in blue-collar voters that weren’t ours before, and that’s a good thing and it’s a challenging thing,” Grogan said. “Blue-collar voters need to be enticed a little bit more. They need to be excited a little bit more.” Grogan doesn’t push Trump’s false conspiracy theory of widespread voter fraud costing him the 2020 presidential election, and Grogan says his party needs to embrace mail voting the president has sowed doubt about. But the new chair is quick to note “no system is zero-fraud and zero-error” — including the one in DuPage County that saw him lose his bid for a third term as auditor. “In 2020, I lost by 76 votes out of a half a million, and I will tell you that the error rate was probably north of that, because we threw out over 800 ballots,” Grogan said. “People should know that every vote does count, and we want to count every vote accurately.” As for abortion rights that remain popular and important to many suburban voters, Grogan, who calls himself pro-life, decried Illinois as “an abortion destination state, and I don’t think that’s what the average suburban, pro-choice person really wants. “They don’t want late-term abortions. They don’t want taxpayer-funded abortions for folks that aren’t even citizens,” Grogan said. “Abortion tourism is not something that they would really endorse.” And he’s undaunted by the odds playing on heavily gerrymandered, Democratic-drawn maps. “Voter patterns change, and they evolve. I have optimism … that eventually governance matters, and I think that the governance of the state of Illinois, and city of Chicago, leaves a lot to be desired,” Grogan said. “That old definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.” But Republicans are running Darren Bailey again this November against Gov. JB Pritzker, four years after the southern Illinois farmer got trounced by the billionaire governor who’s now heavily favored to win a third term. Grogan backed Ted Dabrowski in the GOP primary and now says Bailey “has definitely come back at it with a different approach … We have structural problems. But if you only believed polls, Hillary Clinton would be president.” More importantly, Grogan said, “There is definitely a lot more JB fatigue than there was six years ago. “You bring up the governor’s name, and there’s a grimace. Where they were giving the benefit of the doubt a couple cycles ago, they’re not so happy,” he said, pointing to COVID-19 business restrictions under Pritzker early in the pandemic and the governor’s potential White House ambitions in 2028. “A lot of people are getting the impression he’s looking over the person’s shoulder at New Hampshire, and the recipe for New Hampshire and Iowa is not the recipe for Illinois,” said Grogan, who’s tasked with working up a fundraising rebound, too. The Democratic Party of Illinois’ $1.2 million cash on hand at the end of June roughly quadrupled the state GOP’s total. Meanwhile, Bailey entered the summer with about $128,000 in his campaign fund compared to more than $3 million for Pritzker, who can cut another massive check anytime he pleases. “We’ve had an over-reliance on one or two donors on the Republican side, which means that we’ve been lazy on developing infrastructure for small-dollar donors and such that really should be our bedrock,” Grogan said, referencing the likes of conservative megadonor Richard Uihlein. A lot of it will take basic leg work and candidate recruitment. “Even if they aren’t going to win someplace, and obviously some … districts are really hard, I think that a well-crafted dialogue with voters has up-ticket and down-ticket effects,” Grogan said. “The first step is they have to meet us, and then they’ve got to hear us, and then they’ll like us. And you can’t do that just by listening to the screamers on Facebook.” It’s also about changing the mindset of Republicans who “kind of suffer from almost a Stockholm syndrome, that they’ve been so long outside of power that they no longer identify [with] what it’s like … to get power,” Grogan said. “So we argue about how many angels dance on the head of a pin, as opposed to how to most advantageously take back a House seat,” he said. “Fratricide is not a great campaign strategy.” “We are in the super minority, and we’ve been there for a long time. We haven’t held statewide office for quite a few years now. But the same was said 40 years ago — like the governor’s mansion was ours exclusively,” Grogan said. “There’s no magic flipping of a switch … We actually have to not fight about things that aren’t really as determinative to the average person trying to make their mortgage payment or their rent payment,” Grogan said. “We have prescriptions for many of the ills. At some point, I think the voters are going to stop digging deeper and look out of the hole that they’ve dug themselves into.”)

(FROM THE NEWSLETTER: THE GOVERNOR’s RACE is beginning to take shape, and both Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker and Republican challenger Darren Bailey are looking to the latest headlines to sharpen their attacks. Urban love: Bailey last week continued working to make inroads with Chicago voters, hosting a meet-and-greet in Pilsen just weeks after moving into an apartment on the city’s Near South Side. The event, held at The Frida Room, was part of an effort by the downstate Republican to broaden his appeal beyond his rural base and connect with urban voters on issues such as affordability, housing costs and civil liberties. The appearance drew criticism from Team Pritzker, which sees it as an attempt by Bailey to rebrand himself after attacking Chicago, saying Bailey “is the same extreme” candidate he was in 2022. The exchange comes as both campaigns increasingly look for opportunities to turn news events into political ammunition. Bailey used the July 4 arrest of a man accused of jumping a fence at Pritzker’s Gold Coast residence to criticize the governor’s leadership on public safety. “If a criminal out on electronic monitoring can break into the Governor’s own home, we have a problem,” he says in a fundraising ad. Pritzker’s camp accused Bailey of exploiting a security incident, via the Tribune. The back-and-forth shows the race is likely to focus heavily on public safety, the economy and how the two men operate in Chicago. For Bailey, the challenge is convincing city and suburban voters that he can appeal beyond his conservative downstate base. For Pritzker, the task is tying Bailey to the positions and rhetoric that made him a polarizing figure during his unsuccessful 2022 gubernatorial bid. Election Day is 106 days away.)

— Mastering high school for college success. DD: When I was a Crete-Monee High School (CMHS) student 1962-1966, no one saw me as being college material. At best, they thought that Prairie State Community College in Chicago Heights might accept me. Neither of my parents had attended college. My father was only the first of my ancestors to earn a high school diploma. My mother never attended high school. I did not even try to get a student loan because I could not have gotten one. But nevertheless, I got accepted by UIC by taking college preparatory courses, by getting an ACT score of 24, and by graduating in the upper 20% of my class. I had to work my way through college. To buy a new car to commute to/from my parents’ home in Crete and classes at UIC, I washed dishes 28 hours a week during my junior and senior years at CMHS and 40 hours a week during the summer in between. I delivering mail for the Park Forest Post Office part-time while UIC was in session 1966-1968 and full-time during the summers of 1967, 1968, and 1969. My critics/opponents stress that college expenses were much lower back then and that my parents provided me with room and board while I took classes at UIC 1966-1968, weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and the summer of 1969. I graduated debt-free from NIU in August of 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in business and owning a 1969 Dodge Charger SE.

— States Rush to Fill Graduate Loan Gap Opened by G.O.P. Budget Bill. DD: What were the reasons why you earned a master’s degree? For me, the main reason was my IRS employee manual which encouraged taking graduate courses in business and accounting. IRS had hired me when I was 22 in 1971. I started taking graduate evening business courses at Loyola in 1972. Because I took only one course at a time, I did not earn an MBA from Loyola until 1976. By then, it was too late. Nevertheless, I then started taking graduate evening accounting courses at DePaul in 1976. Because I took only one course at a time, I did not earn a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul until 1980. By then, it was too late. Nevertheless, I started taking graduate evening finance courses at IIT in 1992. Because I took only one course at a time, I did not earn a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT until 1997. By then, it was too late. I earned the degree from IIT because my GAO superior wanted all her subordinates to have a master’s degrees in finance.

— Vacations. DD: My Democrat IRS and GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates became ever-increasingly furious as I ever-increasingly benefitted from my wife’s job as the Corporate Secretary for the U.S. League of Savings Institutions. I went with her on her four annual business trips to luxury resorts across America 1978-1992. We almost always followed her business meetings with trips to national parks. According to my Democrat IRS and GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates, they were grossly underpaid. They decried the time and money they spent raising their children. They decried their wives having little or no income. They ever-increasingly demonized, denigrated, and condemned my wife and I as being selfish disgustingly rich DINKs. Previously, my Democrat Park Forest Post Office superiors who were veterans were furious when I took vacation days for a spring break in 1969 and drove to Daytona Beach with three of my female NIU classmates in my 1969 Dodge Charger SE. In 1970, I repeated the aforesaid. My Democrat Firestone Store boss who was a veteran was furious that I went on a student package trip to the Bahamas while I was taking a graduate evening business course at UIC in the spring of 1971. My aforesaid Democrat veteran superiors and bosses were furious that I took the aforesaid vacations because I had avoided the Vietnam War draft with student deferments and with a financial hardship deferment at a time when my peers were dying in Vietnam. They blamed Republicans like me for America losing the Vietnam War. Further, while I worked for IRS 1971-1980, many, most, and at times virtually all my of superiors and supervisors were Democrat veterans who also especially blamed Republicans for America losing the Vietnam War. They were furious when I took vacations in 1973, 1974, 1975, and 1976. For them, the federal government existed to hire, to retain, and to promote Democrat veterans. In defense of the four vacations that I took to the Bahamas, Hawaii, Mexico, and Jamacia with my IRS coworker 1973-1976, they were all budget packages offered by the National Treasury Employees Union.

While I worked for the Democrats who ran the federal government for almost 30 years, I never disobeyed any order that they gave me, including their ever-increasing orders to give more and more and more preference to my Democrat subordinates who were the aforesaid and/or had performance problems. All of those who they assigned me to supervise were many, most, if not virtually all of the aforesaid. But that was not enough for my Democrat superiors. When I was 49 in 1997, they forced me to retire and gave my Black subordinate my job and my preferred corner office. He had less education than I had. He had less work experience than I had. https://www.chicagobusiness.com/nonprofits-philanthropy/ccb-candid-candace-gary-sinise-veterans-salute-20260717/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: More than 7,000 patriotic fans packed Cantigny Park in Wheaton on July 11 for actor Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band’s largest concert to date. Rockin’ For Our Vets: America 250 was a record-breaking benefit for the West Suburban Foundation for Disabled Veterans. The concert raised awareness and support for the nonprofit’s mission of serving disabled veterans and their families. Guests began arriving early, filling the sprawling Parade Field as military displays, interactive exhibits, food vendors and the First Division Museum welcomed families throughout the day. The century-old Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band added another stirring patriotic touch to the afternoon’s ceremonies. The festivities officially kicked off with an America 250 program featuring distinguished veterans and inspiring guest speakers before the evening’s musical performances. Among the evening’s special guests was Benjamin Patton, grandson of General George S. Patton and founder of the Patton Veterans Project. He shared his personal story and introduced a moving video about his family’s military legacy, which spans generations and dates back to the American Revolution. Vietnam War hero and former Secret Service agent Capt. William “Hawk” Albracht shared his remarkable journey as one of the most decorated veterans of the Vietnam War. Former Army POW Jessica Lynch, whose story drew the nation’s attention during the Iraq War, was just 19 years old in 2003 when she was captured after her convoy was ambushed and rescued by U.S. Special Operations. Country star HunterGirl (Hunter Wolkonowski), a fan favorite from “American Idol,” kicked off the evening at 6 p.m. with a high-energy performance that had the crowd on its feet and set the perfect tone for the night’s festivities. An hour later, the moment thousands had been waiting for arrived as Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band took the stage. Their signature blend of classic rock, country hits and patriotic favorites transformed Cantigny’s Parade Field into one giant celebration. Fans sang along, waved American flags and danced well into the evening as Sinise, who has spent decades supporting America’s military community, delivered a performance that celebrated service, sacrifice and patriotism as much as it did the music. Leading the effort behind the event were Michelle Senatore, co-founder and president of the West Suburban Foundation for Disabled Veterans; U.S. Navy veteran and volunteer Staci Boyer; and a dedicated team of volunteers. Through programs that provide financial assistance, housing and transportation support, service dogs, mental health services and other essential resources, the nonprofit has become a vital lifeline for disabled veterans and their families. The organization’s mission is to ensure that those who have sacrificed for our country receive the support they deserve long after their military service has ended. With another successful event in the books, the West Suburban Foundation for Disabled Veterans is already looking ahead. Planning has begun for the return of Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band to Cantigny in 2027, continuing what organizers hope will become one of the region’s signature annual tributes to veterans.)

— Career success. Measures of career success include salary, promotions, professional certifications, and professional licenses. According to my critics/opponents, my career working for IRS 1971-1980 and GAO 1980-1997 was an abject failure and they blame that on me. The Democrats who ran IRS hired me as a GS-7, currently $56,409/year, Revenue Officer when I was 22 in 1971 because I had earned a bachelor’s degree in business and passed the Federal Service Entrance Examination when I was 21. They promoted me to GS-9, currently $68,999/year, when I was 23, to GS-11, currently $83,482/year, when I was 24, and to GS-12, currently $100,059/year, when I was 25. Because they took adverse actions against me when I was 25 and 29 and made it clear that they would never promote me to GS-13, currently $118,984/year even though I had earned an MBA when II was 27 and passed the CPA examination on my first attempt when I was 30, I took a $23,699/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO when I was 31. The Democrats who ran GAO finally promoted me to GS-13 when I was 38 after I had earned a master’s degree in accounting when I was 31 and passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt and became a licensed CPA when I was 32. With step increases, my GS-13 salary increased to $154,684/year in today’s dollars when I was 49. After I transferred, I earned professional certifications when I was 32 (internal auditing), 41 (fraud examination), 45 (government financial management), 47 (financial services auditing), and 48 (forensic accounting) and a master’s degree (financial markets and trading) when I was 48. My superiors forced me to retire when I was 49 in 1997. My critics/opponents have always argued that because I had the aforesaid degrees, professional certifications, and professional license, I should have been promoted to GS-13 much faster than I was and then to GS-14, GS-15, and Senior Executive Service (SES), currently $197,200/year, before I was 40. They blame me for that. They ignore/dismiss/belittle the fact a) that my Democrat IRS superiors got rid of the IRS manager who had promoted me when I was 23, 23, and 25 and b) that my Democrat GAO superiors got rid of the GAO manager who had arranged my transfer from IRS to GAO and was finally able to assign me to audits of IRS and promote me. According to my critics/opponents, I am 100% responsible for my not getting promoted to GS-13 sooner, for my never being promoted beyond GS-13, and for my being forced to retire when I was 49. I agree with them, but absolutely not for the reasons that they hint/imply/argue/shout. They know full-well that Democrats believe that the federal government exists to hire, retain, and promote Democrats who are minority, female, younger, and/or veteran and that I am none of the aforesaid. They know full well that federal employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran have no Civil Service protections. They know full-well that I would have made SES before I was 40 if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, and/or veteran, b) if I had not complained about their political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination, and c) if I had not officially became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my GAO superiors with the aforesaid when I was 40. – Dave Diersen

I should write about my many Democrat Post Office, IRS, and GAO superiors who were veterans and the many big adverse actions that they took against me. They used my avoiding the draft with deferments against me viciously. They blamed Republicans for America losing the Vietnam War. I have always asked myself if I had tried to enlist would I have been accepted. I was 1-A for the draft even though I could not run because I had an inherited bone disease, my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, and I had partial red/green color blindness. — Disparate impact. DD: Those who passed tests and examinations with me were overwhelming White males. Democrats blame their problems on disparate impact. Hiring, retention, and promotion requirements have a disparate impact against Democrats who are minority, female, younger, and/or veteran. The Democrats who ran the Post Office in 1966, IRS in 1971, and GAO in 1980 hired me because they could not find a qualified Democrat who was minority, female, younger, or veteran who would take the job. I would not have survived as a federal employee for almost 30 years if I had not a) passed the postal employment test when I was 17 in 1966, b) passed the Federal Entrance Examination when I was 21, c) earned a bachelor’s degree in business when I was 21, d) earned an MBA when I was 27, e) passed the CPA examination on my first attempt when I was 30, f) earned a master’s degree in accounting when I was 31, g) passed the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt when I was 32, h) became a licensed CPA when I was 32, i) earned four more job-related professional certifications when I was 41, 45, 47, and 48, and j) earned a master’s degree in finance when I was 48. All of my coworkers who my Democrat superiors in the federal government promoted over me were Democrats who a) were minority, female, younger than me, and/or veteran and b) had less education than I had, had less work experience than I had, had no professional certification or fewer than I had, and/or had no professional license like the one I had. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire when I was 49 in 1997 and gave my job and my preferred corner office to my Black subordinate. He had less education than I had. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The average federal employee salary is $112,456/year and has increased dramatically over the last decade and is more than 50% higher than the average salary reported in 2017. While annual pay raises have contributed to this growth, they are only part of the story. . .One reason average federal salaries are relatively high is that federal employees are older and generally more experienced than workers in the overall U.S. labor force. This distinction is important. According to OPM’s latest workforce data, the median age of federal civilian employees is 47 years old. By comparison, the median age of the overall U.S. labor force is about 42 years old. This means the federal workforce is generally older and more experienced than the workforce as a whole. Workers typically earn more as they gain experience, move into supervisory positions, and acquire specialized skills. An organization with a larger share of mid-career and senior employees will have a higher average salary than one that relies heavily on entry-level workers.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Congressional hearing on UIC med school veers from antisemitism to DEI, gender care
https://www.chicagobusiness.com/health-care/ccb-uic-medical-school-antisemitism-congress-20260715/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Dr. Enrico Benedetti, along with officials from the University of California Los Angeles and University of California San Francisco, was initially accused of being soft on antisemitism on campus since the Trump administration took office, but the debate about the state of medical education has shifted since the congressional probe began last year. The Committee on Education & the Workforce began investigating the colleges in light of “complaints of severe antisemitism” at the schools, which committee Chairman Tim Walberg, R-Michigan, said stemmed from an activist infrastructure the universities had constructed. Walberg accused the schools of teaching that incited antisemitism, including “labeling of Jews as white, and therefore privileged and oppressors.” In his opening comments, Walberg went on to say the schools have integrated DEI into their admissions decisions and curricula, promoting courses that have nothing to do with medical science, but seek to turn medical students into “far left activists.” In opening testimony, Benedetti addressed the questions over antisemitism at the medical school, which has campuses in Chicago, Peoria and Rockford, saying the school has taken steps to better deal with religious and other bigotry. Benedetti testified the medical school had discontinued an internal communication channel that had become a forum for inappropriate and offensive commentary; changed its leadership structure to ensure clear lines of accountability, in which a new vice dean of education will now have oversight over student complaints regarding misconduct; and is updating the curriculum to better ensure that all of its physicians are trained to effectively treat patients from all communities. Benedetti was joined by Dr. Sam Hawgood, chancellor at UCSF, and Dr. Steve Dubinett, dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Roger Mitchell Jr., president of the National Medical Association, the organization serving Black physicians, also testified. Benedetti and the other two school officials testified that their universities do not use race as a factor in determining acceptance into medical school. “The college’s primary goal is simple: to train excellent physicians who provide the best care to all patients, regardless of their own background or the background of those they serve,” Benedetti testified. “We provide a medical education that focuses on science, evidence-based medicine and the professional competencies required to care for patients.” The hearing moved away from antisemitism to diversity, with Walberg stating that medical education ought to be based on merit and “organic diversity” versus “merit flexibility with manufactured diversity.” He asked each dean whether students of different races were treated differently and whether students are chosen on the basis of race. Benedetti testified that race is not considered “when we choose the best student.” However, Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., said UI Medical College still states it is “committed to diversity and inclusion,” concluding that it was “clear that DEI is still the core mission” of the school. The ranking Democrat on the committee, Rep. Robert Scott of Virginia, said that while the committee had begun by investigating antisemitism, it became a discussion of DEI, as Republicans “abandoned good faith efforts to end discrimination,” turning a blind eye to other members of their party who actively promote bigotry. He defended the role of DEI in medical education, saying teaching about diversity is how to combat discrimination. Schools need to teach future doctors “to recognize and confront bias,” he said. “Inclusion isn’t just fair, it’s more effective medicine,” Scott said. Gender care at UI Health. Questioning turned to transgender care when Rep. Robert Onder, R-Mo., noted the Illinois university’s health system, UI Health, had suspended gender-affirming surgeries for minors in August 2025. Benedetti testified the system had “immediately” followed President Donald Trump’s executive order calling for a halt to all gender surgical procedures for minors. However, Benedetti could not answer whether minor patients could still receive puberty blockers or “cross-sex hormones” at UI Health, which Onder said should also be abolished for minors. “UI Health remains steadfast in its mission to provide compassionate, inclusive and patient-centered care,” the health system said in an emailed statement today. “The hospital suspended gender-affirming surgical procedures for patients under age 19, effective August 1, 2025. We have made no additional changes to our services.”)

DD: When I was a 40-year-old GAO employee in 1988, I did much more than write an article. I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my superiors with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. (FROM THE ARTICLE: “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin criticized South Carolina on Wednesday over Republican Gov. Henry McMaster’s appointment of Darline Graham to replace her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, arguing the state’s first female senator lacked the political experience needed to represent its residents in Washington. Hostin branded the appointment an example of diversity-based hiring and nepotism after co-host Joy Behar called Graham’s selection “the very definition of DEI.” “Correct, correct. It’s everything that the Republican Party stands against. Everything!” Hostin said. “It’s DEI. Nepotism. All these things thrown in together.” Hostin also attacked South Carolina for reaching the milestone through an appointment rather than the election of a female candidate. “She’ll be the first woman to be a U.S. senator in South Carolina in the history of the state, and I think that that’s just — it’s just fundamentally wrong that South Carolina just couldn’t elect a woman and this is the only way that it was done,” Hostin said. The former federal prosecutor questioned Graham’s qualifications, referring to her as a certified optician and arguing that her professional background did not prepare her for the Senate. “I think the experience does matter,” Hostin said. “While she is a certified optician and while she has done great work in that field, I don’t think that she should be representing the people of South Carolina in the U.S. Senate. I just don’t.” Behar agreed and argued that public office required specialized knowledge. “It’s not like taking over your mother’s job at McDonald’s,” Behar said. “You’re in government. You have to know what you’re doing.” Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who served as the White House Director of Strategic Communications in President Donald Trump’s first term, pushed back, noting that Graham would serve as a caretaker and comparing the appointment to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s selection of Laphonza Butler after the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein. “You guys are putting too much stock in who’s currently in Congress,” Griffin said. “Yeah, you got a point,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said. Hostin tied the appointment to reports that War Secretary Pete Hegseth had blocked several proposed promotions of Navy officers, including women and people of color. “I feel like our government is fundamentally broken,” Hostin said. “I just — I disagree with this.” . . . Darline Graham, a native of Central, S.C., has dedicated her career to public service,” the spokesperson added. “She has served the people of South Carolina for nearly 30 years, and the governor believes she is the right person to finish her brother’s work.” Graham has served as commissioner of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind since 2019, working to expand employment and independent-living opportunities for residents who are blind or have low vision, according to the governor’s office. She previously held roles with Clemson University, the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce and the South Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.)

DD: In today’s dollars, when I was 22 in 1971, after I had earned a bachelor’s degree in business from NIU when I was 21, my IRS starting salary was $56,409/year. In today’s dollars, when I was 31, after I had earned an MBA from Loyola when I was 27, passed the CPA examination on my first attempt when I was 30, almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul, and had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 Levels, currently $100,059-$113,402/year, my starting GAO salary was only $89,703/year. It would have been $113,402, if not $118,984/year (GS-13 Step1), if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, or veteran.

CHICAGO MAGAZINE
— How Illinois Became a One-Party State. DD: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. The Republican Party platform is conservative. According to political consultants in Illinois who want Republican candidates to continue to lose in Illinois, Republican candidates in Illinois should continue to become ever-increasingly more Democrat Lite if not anti-conservative if not RINO. But Republican candidates in Illinois should advocate conservative principles and planks in the Republican Party platform including its personal responsibility, traditional marriage and family, right to life, immigration, anti-vice, Second Amendment, equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks. They should cite how their following conservative principles and the aforesaid planks helped them succeed. I attribute my successes in life to my following conservative principles and planks in the Republican Party platform.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: On Aug. 8, 2001, George Ryan stood on the steps of the Kankakee County Courthouse and announced he would not seek a second term as governor of Illinois. Ryan’s governorship had been tainted by the licenses-for-bribes scandal, for which he would eventually spend five years in federal prison. Ryan knew he was un-reelectable, but he used the occasion to take a parting shot at the right wing of his party. “I worry for the Republican Party — the party of Lincoln under whose banner I have proudly served all of my life,” he said. “If we’re to be successful, we need to listen more and shout less. We need to moderate our positions. I learned a long time ago that winning public office is about addition and not subtraction, and I would hope that the party folks are listening.” Ryan had once been an archconservative. As speaker of the state House in the early 1980s, he worked with Phyllis Schlafly to stamp out the Equal Rights Amendment. But he won the governorship by running to the left of his Democratic opponent — Southern Illinois congressman Glenn Poshard — on gay rights and abortion. As governor, he instituted a moratorium on the death penalty and, just before leaving office, commuted all death sentences to life in prison. Like any successful politician, Ryan could tell which way the wind was blowing. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, as America’s Red vs. Blue divide developed, Illinois was turning Blue. In 2002, the Democrats took complete control of the state, winning the governorship for the first time in 30 years and the state senate for the first time in more than a decade. Part of their success was due to the national political trends Ryan had observed; part was due to Ryan himself. As the third and last in a 26-year run of Republican governors, his corruption had damaged the brand of a party that had overstayed its welcome.)

— The ghost of communism is indeed haunting America. How could that be? Didn’t we win the Cold War? — Equal Protection Wasn’t Supposed to Be Negotiable. DD: Federal employees who are the following have no Civil Service protections: conservative, Republican, White, male, older, non-veteran, German American, and/or have ancestors who have been in America for a long time. Unions provide some protection. But GAO did not unionize until 2007. If GAO had been unionized when I transferred from IRS in 1980, my Democrat GAO superiors would not have been able to take the many big adverse actions against me that they did. My Democrat GAO superiors a) forced me to retire when I was 49 in 1997, b) always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance, c) delayed my promotions and never promoted me beyond GS-13, and d) forced me to take a $23,699/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. But even though I was a union member at the time, a) my Democrat IRS superiors never promoted me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, and disallowed my travel vouchers in 1974 and b) my Democrat Post Office superiors forced me to resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. That was because I was not a Democrat, minority, female, and/or veteran. For Democrats, the federal government exists to hire, retain, and promote Democrats who are minority, female, younger, veteran, non-Protestant, non-German American, and/or have ancestors who have not been in America for a long time. Virtually all federal employees are Democrats who are one or more of the aforesaid. All of my coworkers who my Democrat superiors in the federal government promoted over me were Democrats who a) had less education than I had, had less work experience than I had, had no professional certification or fewer than I had, and/or had no professional license like the one I had and/or b) were minority, female, younger, veteran, non-Protestant, non-German American, and/or had ancestors who had not been in America for a long time.

— For Texans making the state’s median household income of $84,084 in 2026, it would take 7.2 years to save enough money for a down payment on a house with the state’s typical home value of $302,187. DD: For you, how many months did it take to save enough money for your first down payment? For me, back in the good old days, it took only 25 months. Where did the money come from for your first down payment? When I was 24 in 1972, HUD made the new townhome that I bought in University Park ( https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/774-Sunset-Ct-5-University-Park-IL-60484/5451474_zpid/ ) affordable. I could not have afforded to buy that townhome if it had cost more. In today’s dollars, I paid about $180,000 for it and my down payment would have been about $36,000. In today’s dollars, my IRS Revenue Officer salary had just increased from $56,409/year to $68,999/year. The down payment came from what I had earned working for IRS for 15 months and for a Firestone Store part-time for 18 months and full-time for 7 months before that. According to Zillow, the townhome is currently worth $92,200. That says worlds about real estate values in University Park.

DD: With the Supreme Court ruling, America’s enemies will ever-increasingly use birthright citizenship to destroy America. How did your ancestors become citizens? All my ancestors immigrated legally from what is now Germany during the 1840s and 1850s. They applied for citizenship and they became citizens. They never exhibited any type of anti-Americanism. My grandfather on my father’s side fought the Germans in WWI. My uncles on my mother’s side fought the Germans in WWII. Anticipate/expect that more and more and more of America’s enemies will pay/order their female citizens to get pregnant and to give birth in America. Democrats ever-increasingly elect more anti-Americans to government offices.

— IRS needs to hire more veterans. DD: I should write about my many Democrat Post Office, IRS, and GAO superiors who were veterans and the many big adverse actions that they took against me. What was your biggest mistake in life? For me, it was my avoiding the Vietnam War draft. My many Democrat superiors who were veterans used my avoiding the draft with deferments against me viciously. They blamed Republicans for America losing the Vietnam War. Did you try to enlist. I did not. I have always asked myself would I have been accepted if I had tried to enlist. I was 1-A even though I could not run because I had an inherited bone disease, my eyesight could not be corrected to 20/20, and I had partial red/green color blindness. My critics/opponents have always used my health problems against me. They have always stressed that if I had been accepted, I would not have been sent into combat and that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am a disgusting unmitigated hypocritical coward. According to my many Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government who were veterans, if I had not avoided the draft, I would not have been able to a) buy new cars when I was 19, 20, 23, 25, 29, etc., b) earn a bachelor’s degree in management when I was 21, c) buy real estate when I was 24, 25, 27, 29, 35, etc. d) earn an MBA when I was 27, e) get married when I was 29, f) pass the CPA examination on my first attempt when I was 30, g) earn a master’s degree in accounting when I was 31, h) pass the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt when I was 32, or i) become a licensed CPA when I was 32.

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. The Republican Party platform is conservative. According to Google AI: “Democrat Lite is a pejorative political term used primarily by conservative or libertarian critics to describe moderate or establishment Republicans. It implies that these politicians lack core conservative principles and instead support a milder version of liberal or Democratic policies (such as big-government spending). Critics often use the phrase to argue that Republicans abandon their base by offering a watered-down agenda to appeal to the political center.” My critics/opponents who state that they are Republican are Democrat Lite. They reject some, many, most, virtually all, if not all the planks in the Republican Party platform. Most Commonly, they reject its personal responsibility, traditional marriage and family, right to life, immigration, anti-vice, Second Amendment, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks. They destroy those like me who promote the aforesaid planks. To get rid of me, they have taken many big adverse actions against me since 2000. I should write about my critics/opponents. I would focus on those who continue to have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois. – Dave Diersen
http://www.gopillinois.com
— According to Google AI: “Come to your defense is a phrase that means stepping in to protect, support, or justify someone when they are being criticized, attacked, or facing a challenge. Depending on context, it could refer to legal/physical self-defense, an academic thesis defense, or simply standing up for a friend.” Ever-increasingly, if you live in Illinois, the more of the following that you are, the more that you should not anticipate/expect that others will come to your defense: conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, heterosexual, non-poor, married, Protestant, German American, and/or have ancestors who have been in America for a long time. My critics/opponent stress those who I have done much to help elect and to help reelect since 2000, but who did not come to my defense when my critics/opponents had their operatives and dupes a) rudely through off the Illinois Republican Party State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee in 2024, b) rudely end my role as the Republican fundraiser for Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks in 2021, c) rudely gerrymander my precinct in 2015, d) rudely end my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, e) rudely end my Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO) webmaster service in 2010 and 2004, f) rudely end my Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee membership in 2007, g) rudely almost got ICRC to censure me for my GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters in 2006, and h) rudely defeat my bid for the open MTRO Treasurer position in 2004. – Dave Diersen

Ever-increasingly, those who are the aforesaid are leaving Illinois. Democrat leaders ever-increasingly dive those who are the aforesaid out of Illinois and replace them with those who are liberal/moderate, Democrat, noncitizen, minority, female, younger, LGBTQ, poor, unmarried, non-Protestant, non-German American, and/or have ancestors who have not been in America for a long time. – Dave Diersen

— An illegal alien from Honduras was sentenced earlier this week to 96 months in prison for his role in operating a years-long off-the-books cash payroll scheme that facilitated the employment of illegal aliens working in the United States. The scheme caused a total loss to the United States of more than $38 million. DD: While I worked for IRS’s Collection Division for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 Levels, currently $100,059-$113,402/year, I increasingly collected delinquent payroll taxes. For 3 years while I worked for GAO at the GS-13 Step 1-3 Levels, currently $118,984-$126,917/year, I worked on audits of IRS’s Criminal Investigation Division.

— A strong woman is not marriage material. 95% of men want women who are helpless. Most men do not like strong women, especially those who have independent thoughts and are deeply committed to their work. DD: If I had not met my outstanding wife at a church sponsored singles social event when I was 28 in 1977, I might never had gotten married. My Democrat IRS superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were furious that I got married when I was 29 in 1978. To get rid of me, they had painted me being an extremely bad person because I had refused to become a Democrat. They hinted/implied/argued that because of that, I would never get married. What helped you become marriage material? By the time I got married, I had worked for IRS for almost 7 years and my salary was $110,066/year in today’s dollars. I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976 and I was taking graduate evening accounting courses at DePaul. I lived in a one bedroom condo in the Outer Drive East building that I had bought in 1976. I was renting out a town home in University Park that I had bought new in 1972. I owned a 1972 Corvette that I had bought new in 1971. — House probes IRS failure to nab tax dodgers in federal workforce; more than $6 billion owed. DD: Democrats do not want Republicans to audit Democrats. I have always been a Republican. Virtually all federal employees are Democrats. GAO works for Congress. GAO audits IRS. I worked for IRS’s Collection Division for almost 9 years 1971-1980, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 Levels, currently $100,059-$113,402/year and the last 3 years of which for IRS’s Special Procedures Staff. I transferred to GAO in 1980 after I had earned an MBA in 1976 and passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. To transfer, my Democrat GAO superiors forced me to take a $23,699/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars, a downgrade from GS-12 Step 5 to GS-9 Step 10, currently $89,702/year. They succeeded in keeping me off audits of IRS’s Collection Division for my entire almost 18-year GAO career. I was assigned to audits of IRS’s Criminal Investigation Division for 3 years 1986-1988 only because the GAO Manager who had arranged my transfer got back into power. But they forced him to retire in 1987. The Democrats who ran GAO in 1980 should have offered me a promotion to GS-13 to transfer. They should have always assigned me to audits of IRS’s Collection Division. But, of course, not to audits of my IRS superiors who had taken big adverse actions against me. Democrats do not want Republicans to audit Democrats.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Over 571,000 federal employees owe $6.3 billion in taxes. The delinquency rate among federal workers is increasing despite IRS warnings. The House Oversight Committee is questioning IRS enforcement efforts. The IRS can garnish wages and pensions for unpaid taxes. More than 571,000 current and retired federal employees owe $6.3 billion in taxes, a delinquency rate that has been increasing steadily despite threatening letters from the IRS. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee wants to know why the IRS and other federal agencies haven’t cracked down harder on tax scofflaws within their ranks or moved to seize their wages and pensions through an existing enforcement program. In a letter sent Thursday to IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano, the GOP-led panel asked the agency to turn over data showing the IRS’s efforts to recover unpaid taxes, whether they’ve used wage and pension garnishment, and if they were successful at bringing any of the money into the Treasury. A recent report by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) paints a bleak picture of enforcement when it comes to federal workers. It found the number of federal employees delinquent on their taxes had increased by a staggering 43% since 2021 and that 215,000 U.S. government workers — 6.9% of the total workforce — were delinquent on their federal taxes in 2024 alone. The report also found 50,000 federal employees and retirees failed to file any tax returns at all, among them 14,000 repeat non-filers who earned federal salaries of $100,000 or more. At least 122 federal workers did not file a tax return for eight or more years, the inspector general found. A third of all non-filers were U.S. Postal Service workers. Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, Kentucky Republican, plans to crack down on the federal government’s apparent lack of enforcement. “With TIGTA’s report showing continuous increases in tax noncompliance among current and former federal employees, the Committee is concerned that this trend will continue unless IRS, the Executive Branch and Congress act now to proactively curb noncompliance with federal tax laws,” he wrote to Mr. Bisignano. Failure to file a tax return is a federal crime, but the IRS’s efforts to enforce the law among federal workers have largely failed. Last summer, the IRS mailed 427,000 delinquency notification letters to federal employees and retirees that, according to Mr. Comer, encouraged the scofflaws to voluntarily resolve their outstanding tax bills. Within a month of the notifications, only 59,000 people who received the letters made a payment, and just 4,700 paid all of the taxes they owed. In total, the IRS recovered only $58 million in delinquent tax payments from the federal workforce, which is less than 1% of the total owed by all federal workers and retirees. “This data demonstrates that the majority of noncompliant federal employees ignored the IRS letters and failed to resolve their tax liabilities in a timely manner or at all,” Mr. Comer wrote. The federal government has additional enforcement avenues for these scofflaws beyond sending friendly letters encouraging compliance. The Federal Payment Levy Program authorizes the IRS to garnish up to 15% of federal employee salaries and retiree pensions to recover unpaid taxes. Mr. Comer asked the IRS to turn over the number of non-filers referred to the Federal Payment Levy Program and the amount of tax money recovered, the number of wage garnishment requests for unpaid taxes made to the Bureau of Fiscal Service, the number of employees and pensioners “who had federal payments or salaries levied” and the amount of money recovered. Mr. Comer asked the IRS to turn over the data by July 9 and to agree to a staff-level briefing on IRS enforcement of federal workers’ tax compliance. Under the law, the Treasury Department can hold its own employees accountable for tax delinquencies. The audit said that was probably a factor in the department having a relatively low delinquency rate of just 2.4%. The law, however, prohibits the IRS from sharing tax information outside the Treasury, so other departments struggle to crack down on workers who duck paying their federal taxes. The loophole leads to weak enforcement, Mr. Comer said. “It seems unlikely that employees who are already failing to pay or to file taxes for years in violation of federal laws would voluntarily identify themselves to their employing agencies,” Mr. Comer said.)

The website policy reads, “Must be able to provide proof of residency. Be prepared to show proof of residency at the Museum with a valid photo ID, Illinois driver’s license, state ID, or city-issued ID. Guardians must be able to provide proof of residency for accompanying children.” Isn’t requiring a photo ID racist? Won’t this keep poor, ignorant black Americans who supposedly can’t acquire one from visiting? It’s a shocking discovery, to say the least. Could it be that Democrats actually see the merit in requiring ID for certain situations and only push for this insanity in our elections to enable fraud? ID is not controversial among the American people.)
