CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Illinois GOP to begin seeking state chairman applicants on Monday – RICK PEARSON
https://www.chicagotribune.com/politics/ct-illinois-republican-chairman-20210109-tyqzd5cfebdddetml25jurtivy-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Illinois Republican Party agreed on a time frame for selecting a new state chairman Saturday, launching the process for potential candidates to apply on its website during a 10-day period beginning Monday. The goal, the party’s state central committee agreed, was to select someone by as soon as Jan. 30 to replace Tim Schneider, who announced last month he was stepping down after more than six years in the post. Schneider is leaving the post before his term ends May 23 amid a push by conservative hard-liners on the 18-member committee who sought someone more in line with their views, even though Schneider was an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump’s reelection bid. . .The state GOP leadership committee will meet on Jan. 23 to screen applicants and schedule a date to meet with finalists. A week later, the panel hopes to conclude interviews with finalists with the potential of voting that day on a new chairman. The GOP state central committee established some guidelines for candidates for the post, including a requirement to stay neutral in party primary contests and that the applicant not be a vendor or stakeholder in any campaign, including work for election technology or political consulting firms. In addition, the committee said it was seeking candidates who are not currently salaried public officials or candidates for public office that provides a salary. It also said it preferred candidates who are not registered lobbyists or government employees. The committee, however, did not issue a blanket ban on such applicants and said the individual’s circumstances should be considered by committee members. The final decision will come down to a weighted vote of the state central committee members, representing each of Illinois’ 18 congressional districts, based on 2020 primary results.)

DAILY HERALD
— What Illinois Republicans are seeking in a new chairman – Marni Pyke
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20210109/what-illinois-republicans-are-seeking-in-a-new-chairman
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On Saturday, Illinois Republican State Central Committee members approved a process and timeline for replacing Chairman Tim Schneider of Bartlett, who is stepping down. The hope is to name a new chairman by the Jan. 30 meeting, Grogan said. Committee members are “looking forward to getting the best qualified man or woman who comes forward at the helm,” Grogan said. “You have to come in already knowing Illinois politics and the stakeholders.” The committee needs “to go find a Solomon” who can bridge regional and ideological divides, former Republican state senator and gubernatorial candidate Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale said. Typically, the top Republican in the state steers the selection of the party chairman, as former Gov. Bruce Rauner did with Schneider, but right now there’s no apparent kingmaker. Possible contenders include: Illinois National Committeeman Richard Porter, a Northfield attorney; longtime Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar; Cook County Republican Party Chairman and Illinois Republican State Central Committee member Sean Morrison of Palos Park; and Chicago Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts, who has been a fundraiser for Trump and the Republican National Committee. As of November 2020, the Democratic Party of Illinois had $2.63 million cash on hand and the Republican Party of Illinois had $286,067, according to OpenSecrets.org. Making up the shortfall will require a savvy fundraiser, one comfortable attending chicken dinners and golf outings and building rapport with wealthy Republican influencers like Uline founder Richard Uihlein and Citadel CEO Kenneth Griffin. . .He added that process for selecting a new chairman will be posted on the party’s illinois.gop website Monday. It will include an application to be completed by Jan. 21 or 22, followed by “a selection and vetting process, with the conclusion and selection at the end of the month,” he said.)
