POLITICO ILLINOIS
— Richard Porter eyeing Durbin’s seat
https://www.politico.com/newsletters/illinois-playbook/2025/07/09/richard-porter-eyeing-durbins-seat-00443440
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Richard Porter, a battle-hardened Republican Party loyalist, is considering a bid for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, who’s retiring. Porter sees an opening for himself and the Illinois Republican Party by blending establishment savvy with MAGA fealty. His background: Porter, 65, is a seasoned attorney from Chicago’s northern suburbs and a former Republican National Committeeman who has worn many hats over the years. He was a senior domestic policy adviser to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dan Quayle. More recently he’s been an unofficial adviser within the Illinois Republican Party. Porter’s resume screams old guard, but he now sings support for President Donald Trump and his policies — a pivot from the early years of Trump’s first administration. Walking a tightrope: “I represent the old and new party,” Porter told your Playbook host, adding he’s still in the “testing the waters phase” of running for Senate. It’s a narrow but not impossible lane, he says. With Durbin out and three prominent Democrats already elbowing one another in a looming primary brawl, Porter sees a crack in the Democratic firewall that has defined Illinois politics for so many years. “This is an open seat,” Porter said. “Democrats will have to compete in a primary so there’s a good chance for division coming out of that.” Porter expects economic renewal under Trump, and he brushed aside Democrats’ concerns that hundreds of thousands of people will lose health care under Trump’s just-signed megabill. “If you look at actual provisions, they aren’t unreasonable — there are work requirements,” Porter said. “Real world impact will be minimal.” Perhaps. But … that won’t stop Democrats from branding it as catastrophic to voters. Porter is confident that any “unintended bad consequence” from the budget reconciliation bill can be corrected before the 2026 midterms. Porter’s view: “There’s a risk if Democrats cry wolf, wolf, wolf for 12 months and there’s no wolf.” He’s also been poring over 2024 election results and sees Trump’s showing in Illinois as a positive sign that Republicans could find success in 2026 in the state where Democrats control all the statewide seats. Add a possible chaotic Democratic primary and a volatile national climate, and anything is possible. The challenge for any statewide Republican candidate, Porter says, is getting old guard and new right Republicans to march in lock step. The other challenge is getting the state’s most prominent Republican donor — businessman Richard Uihlein — on your side. SIDE NOTE: Porter would face a primary. Air Force veteran John Goodman, political commentator Pamela Denise Long and businessman Douglas Bennett and others have filed as Republican candidates, too.)

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Democrat leaders ever-increasingly hint/imply/argue/shout that no one can survive in America, let alone succeed in America, without massive Democrat-provided government assistance. It is called socialism, if not communism. I had Republican teachers in grade school and in high school. Because of that, my not getting scholarships or student loans did not stop me from getting a college degree. I worked my way through college. – Dave Diersen
http://www.gopillinois.com
— How have federal spending cuts impacted you? My Democrat GAO superiors used Gingrich-led budget cuts to waste my career and to get rid of me. They used those cuts a) to force me to take a $23,472/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO when I was 31 years old in 1980, b) to delay my promotions and to never promote me beyond GS-13, c) to always rank me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance, and d) to force me to retire when I was 49 years old in 1997. They would not have done the aforesaid if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, and/or veteran. – Dave Diersen
http://www.gopillinois.com
— What is your position on bad jobs? From what I see, under the Democrats and under the RINOs, Americans ever-increasingly fail/refuse to take bad jobs. I took bad jobs. I did yard work 1962-1964, delivered newspapers 1962-1966, washed dishes 1964-1966, cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966, delivered mail 1966-1969, worked on an automobile assembly line in 1970, sold tires, automotive services, and major appliances 1970-1971, pumped more gasoline 1971-1972, collected delinquent taxes 1971-1980, and audited federal agencies 1980-1997. – Dave Diersen
http://www.gopillinois.com
— What do your critics/opponents paint themselves as being? My Republican critics/opponents ever-increasingly paint themselves as being moderates, centrists, RINOs, anti-conservatives, anti-Republicans, if not Democrat plants. I should write my Republican critics/opponents. – Dave Diersen

DUPAGE POLICY JOURNAL
— ‘They threw Christine into the water;’ Chicago ‘flash mob’ takes over Glen Ellyn’s Sunset Pool, assaults manager. Under the Democrats and under the RINOs, Glen Ellyn today, your municipality tomorrow.
https://dupagepolicyjournal.com/stories/673828974-they-threw-christine-into-the-waterl-chicago-flash-mob-takes-over-glen-ellyn-s-sunset-pool-assaults-manager
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A “flash mob” of some 200 Chicago residents swarmed Glen Ellyn’s Sunset village pool on Saturday afternoon, forcing their way past the entrance and assaulting the pool manager. A video posted on Instagram shows a crowd pushing manager Christine Giunta-Mayer into the lap pool, which had been surrounded by the mob. Sources tell DuPage Policy Journal that the mob arrived around 4:30 p.m. Glen Ellyn Police arrived soon after and closed the pool. A Sat. afternoon Facebook post by Patrick Sandusky reported the pool as “now closed.” “The Sunset Pool has been overwhelmed by out of town kids,” he wrote. “Fireworks fired into pool. It’s a tik tok meet up / take over according to police I just spoke to.” “Kids pushed (past) the gates. Lot of drinking and weed in the parking lot. 100s and 100s of kids. No joke. Pushed manager into the pool,” Sandusky wrote. The Sunset Pool’s non-resident admission rate is $15 for individuals 18-59. On Sunday, Sunset Pool visitors were required to have a physical pool pass issued by the park district, sources tell DuPage Policy Journal. Weed, Miller Lite, and “on the rocks cosmos” Glen Ellyn teens present described a chaotic scene. The flash mob brought in coolers with alcohol and speakers to play music. “They were drinking and smoking weed and swearing a lot,” a Glen Ellyn teen present at the pool at the time told DuPage Policy Journal. “Someone threw a lit cigar into the pool.” “I saw Miller Lite bottles and girls drinking on-the-rocks cosmos,” the teen said. “They were taking people’s stuff and moving it from their pool chairs.” The flash mob was originally planned for Naperville. “We bringing (sic) 31st Beach to the burbs” read a Facebook advertisement promoting the event, scheduled for Naperville’s Centennial Beach, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. “31st Beach” is a reference to 31st Street Beach on Chicago’s South Side. Giunta-Mayer is also head coach of the Glenbard West Hilltoppers Boys’ Volleyball team.)
