GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— Obviously, there is a media blackout (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_blackout) concerning Republican participation in the 2016 Wheaton Independence Day Parade. The news media knows full-well that Mark Kirk; Bruce Rauner and Evelyn Sanguinetti; Mike Connelly and Jeanne Ives; Peter Breen; Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, and Tim Whelan; and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee will be in Wheaton’s Independence Day Parade and that for the 11th consecutive year, DuPage Republicans will help sponsor the parade, and that this year, they will be a $2,500 Gold Celebration Partner for the fireworks and parade.  Which individuals, organizations, companies, governments, etc. do not want anyone to know the aforesaid? – Dave Diersen

WASHINGTON POST
— $3.1 billion – at least — lost in bogus tax refunds to ID thieves in 2014 – Joe Davidson
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/07/01/3-1-billion-lost-to-id-theft-tax-fraudsters-in-2014-at-least/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Even during this era of cyber-insecurity, here’s a chilling figure: 3.1 billion. That’s the number of dollars the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) paid in bogus tax refunds in 2014 because of identity theft refund fraud, according to the Government Accountability Office. The IRS has a Taxpayer Protection Program (TPP) that sounds like it should provide security. It does, but not enough to prevent IRS from paying $30 million to identity theft fraudsters in 2014, based on the 1.6 million screened by the program.  That’s just one of the ways Uncle Sam fights identity theft fraud. About 7,200 of them were bogus. In total, IRS processed more than 150 million individual tax returns in 2015. Overall, the GAO report indicates the IRS does a decent job of detecting and stopping ID fraud, which is a big business. Crooks attempted to get $25.6 billion from bogus refunds in 2014. The IRS beat them most of the time, stopping or recovering the theft of $22.5 billion, 88 percent of the attempted pillage. But in the remaining cases, crooks got the $3.1 billion. That could be a low-ball estimate, however. GAO says the IRS might have been beaten an unknown number of times for an undetermined amount of money by undetected cheating.)

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/06/30/poll-americans-brexit-anger-widespread/86546786/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Brexit earthquake isn’t just British. Americans by an overwhelming 4-1 margin agree that the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union was a sign of anger and dissatisfaction that can be seen in other countries, including the United States, according to a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll. Just 16% call it an isolated referendum. “I think it is an indication of a broader feeling among people around the world, where they are feeling more and more helpless about controlling things in their own countries,” says Sandra Lueder, 68, of Cheshire, Conn., who plans to vote for Republican Donald Trump. She was among those surveyed. “I do happen to believe the refugee crisis and immigration were important components of things that people were unhappy about.”)

U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT
— The Politics of Intimidation  Donald Trump is trying to discredit the media to get what he wants. – Kenneth T. Walsh  (DIERSEN: Who tries to intimidate you?  Who tries to discredit you?  I should write a book about those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who focus on intimidating me and discrediting me. Their operatives and their dupes talk and act like they have been promised lots of money, a new home, a new car, a sweetheart job, a sweetheart contract, favorable legislation, and/or lots more if they get me to stop putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out. They talk and act like they are in bed with the Daily Herald and other Democrat newspapers.)
http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2016-07-01/donald-trumps-campaign-against-the-media
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Donald Trump is lashing out at the media again, trying to discredit his journalistic antagonists and undermine their attacks on his credibility. He is also expanding his communication team by hiring two veteran media strategists. Jason Miller will be his senior communications adviser and Michael Abboud will take charge of rapid response and “daily messaging.” These staff changes don’t signal a change in Trump’s bash-the-media approach but instead likely represent an effort to improve his spin and bypass or outmaneuver the mainstream media in more effective ways. This is more than a media issue. It’s actually reflective of a larger reality about Trump – his belief in the politics of intimidation. He has used intimidation throughout his career as a real-estate developer and dealmaker, attempting to bully and bulldoze his opposition in order to get his way. His attempts to elbow the media are part of that pattern. Trump and his aides recently banned reporters from Politico and the Guardian from his press conference and tour of a golf resort he owns in Scotland. Trump representatives said that these news organizations are biased against the Republican presidential candidate. But he has done this before. Among the organizations that he has blacklisted in the past – by refusing them admittance to Trump events – have been Buzzfeed, the Des Moines Register, The Washington Post and Univision. A recent poll by CNN/ORC found that nearly three-quarters of Americans disapprove of Trump’s refusal to grant press credentials to news outlets he says are unfair. Seventy-one percent of voters including 53 percent of Republicans, 70 percent of independents and 87 percent of Democrats describe Trump’s decision to deny credentials as “inappropriate.”)

MCHENRY COUNTY BLOG
— Jim Tobin Takes Jim Thompson to Task for Pension – Cal Skinner
http://mchenrycountyblog.com/2016/06/30/jim-tobin-takes-jim-thompson-to-task-for-pension/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Former Illinois Governor James R. Thompson, who in 1983 and 1989 engineered raising Illinois’ state personal and corporate income tax rates by 20 percent, will receive a generous increase to his lavish, gold-plated state pension on July 1, 2016, while Illinois residents on Social Security government pensions will see negligible increases to their own benefits next year. Thompson’s annual pension as of 2016 is $147,477. On July 1, his annual cost-of-living increase of 3% will boost his annual government pension by $4,424. Compare those figures to Social Security recipients, whose cost-of-living increase of two-tenths of one percent for 2017 was just recently announced. For those receiving a Social Security pension of $1,000 a month, that cost-of-living increase amounts to only $24 annually, or nearly one-hundred eight-five times less than that of Thompson. “It is obscene that tax-raiser Thompson is pulling in millions of dollars from the essentially bankrupt state pension fund, while retirees on Social Security pensions, whose earnings were taxed to prop-up his state pension fund, must get by with an increase of $2 or $3 a month in 2017,” said Jim Tobin, President of Taxpayers United of America (TUA). Under Thompson, the state personal income tax was raised from 2.5% to 3%, and the state corporate income tax to 7.3%, including the 2.5% personal property replacement-tax surcharge. “This is an example of how corrupt the Illinois government is and has always been,” said Tobin. “Thompson, who retired at age 55, and who has contributed only $84,996 to his pension plan, already has collected $2.5 million to date, and his estimated lifetime pension payout is $3.38 million. “He should be ashamed, Social Security pensioners and taxpayers alike should demand immediate reform.” To understand the tax burden Illinois taxpayers face due to unfunded government pension liabilities, see TUA’s 10th Annual Illinois State Pensions Report.)
