— Churches fight back against Iowa bid to silence biblical views on sexuality, gender identity – Bradford Richardson (DIERSEN: Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes side with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes want to abolish the First Amendment.)
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jul/5/churches-fight-back-against-iowa-bid-to-silence-bi/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Two churches are fighting back against the Iowa Civil Rights Commission after the agency issued an interpretation of state law that could bar churches from expressing biblical views on sexuality and gender identity — even from the Sunday pulpit. Fort Des Moines Church of Christ filed a federal lawsuit against the commission on Monday, arguing that the agency’s interpretation of the Iowa Civil Rights Act violates the First Amendment. Christiana Holcomb, legal counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom, which represents the church, said it is difficult to “imagine a more obvious unconstitutional invasion of the state into the internal affairs of the church” than what the Civil Rights Commission is proposing. “Churches should be free to teach their religious beliefs and operate their houses of worship according to their faith without being threatened by the government,” Ms. Holcomb said in a statement. “That is a foundational First Amendment principle.” The lawsuit came in response to an explanatory brochure titled “Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity — A Public Accommodations Provider’s Guide to Iowa Law,” released by the Civil Rights Commission. It says churches are public accommodations and therefore generally subject to the Iowa Civil Rights Act.)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— Mr. Comey, Hillary Wants Another Job That Requires a Security Clearance – Jim Geraghty  (DIERSEN: I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years.  I got a security clearance a) in 1980 when I started working for GAO, b) in 1971 when I stared working for IRS, and c) in 1966 when I started working for the Post Office.  I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) who have never gotten a security clearance or b) who could not get one if they tried.)
http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/437515/mr-comey-hillary-wants-another-job-requires-security-clearance
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Bizarrely, even after declaring the FBI was not recommending indictment, Comey implied that if Hillary Clinton still worked for the federal government, she could be fired or have her security clearance revoked: “To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions.” Mr. Director, have you noticed she’s trying to get hired for another high-level government job that involves handling lots of classified information?)

— Part-Time Jobs and Thrift: How Unpaid Interns in D.C. Get By – KATIE SHEPHERD  (DIERSEN: When you were a full-time college student, what did you do when you were not in class?  I pumped gasoline, delivered mail, worked on an automobile assembly line, and worked as a security guard.  During 1972, I worked full-time for IRS, worked part-time for Firestone Stores, and took graduate business classes at Loyola.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/06/us/part-time-jobs-and-thrift-how-unpaid-interns-in-dc-get-by.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When Dominic Peacock found out he had been selected for an unpaid summer internship at the National Congress of American Indians here, he looked up the airfare from Albuquerque, rejected the option, and boarded a bus and rode 44 hours. Now, after a long day thumbing through bills and working for legislation to protect tribal artifacts, he walks a few blocks to a hotel restaurant where he buses tables until 1 a.m. His workweek — 60 to 75 hours long — affords him one day off to catch up on chores in his American University dorm room and explore the city. “This is the schedule that I want,” said Mr. Peacock, a senior at the University of New Mexico and member of the Acoma Pueblo tribe. “I’m going to finish this. I don’t care what it costs.” Thousands of interns like Mr. Peacock have descended on the nation’s capital, hoping to gain connections and work experience answering phones, sorting mail and occasionally helping with larger projects in congressional offices, federal institutions, nonprofits and legal divisions across the city. And unlike private companies, the government and nonprofit organizations do not have to pay them.)
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD WITH BIG PICTURE: HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Class Anger Fuels Town’s Pro-Brexit Defiance – Andrew Higgins  (DIERSEN: What class were you born into?  My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government demonized me, denigrated me, and condemned me as someone who was born into the upper class. In my defense, a) neither of my outstanding parents attended college, my father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma, and my mother never attended high school, b) my father fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, worked in the office of a chemical plant, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, and died suddenly when he was 47 and I was 21, and c) my father did not buy a new car until he was 45 and it was a bottom of the line 2-door Chevy with almost no options.  If I was born into the upper class, why during my junior and senior years in high school did I spend four evenings a week and Saturdays during the school year and the summer in between washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights?)

WALL STREET JOURNAL
— Washington Lobbyists’ Trump Card: Skipping GOP Convention  Donald Trump has railed against those whose experience and cash could help in Cleveland – REBECCA BALLHAUS  (DIERSEN: I am an unpaid volunteer lobbyist for the Republican Party platform, the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform, and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) resolution against video gambling. Of course, needless-to-say, because of that, individuals, organizations, companies, governments, countries, etc. that reject planks in the Republican Party platform and/or the IRP platform and/or reject the MTRCC resolution against video gambling focus on destroying me.  What do you say to those who claim to be religious, conservative, and/or Republican who focus on destroying me?)

— Why So Many Missed the Nationalist Surge  Politicians and young, educated urbanites live in an economic and cultural bubble. – WILLIAM A. GALSTON  (DIERSEN: Most, if not virtually all my current critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes “live in an economic and cultural bubble.” Many of them have never lived or worked outside of Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Milton Township, or DuPage County. None of them have had the jobs that I have had auditing federal agencies, collecting delinquent federal taxes, selling tires, automotive services, and major appliances, working on an automobile assembly line, working as a security guard, delivering mail, pumping gasoline, chipping slag, cleaning golf shoes, washing dishes, delivering news papers, or doing yard work.  Most significantly, none of my current critics/opponents, their operatives, or their dupes worked for Democrats for almost 30 years like I did.)

— Laws Are for Little People  Comey delivers an indictment but won’t seek one. – JAMES TARANTO  (DIERSEN: How little are you?  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes stress that I am no longer the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman, I am no longer a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee member, I am no longer the Milton Township Republican Central Committee webmaster, I am no longer an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member, I am no longer an American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter board member, I am no longer a GAO employee, etc.)

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/voices/2016/06/26/voices-safety-training-covering-conventions/86336188/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: When the message popped up on the iPad screen, I did a double take: Journalists were ponying up $1,195 for a two-day hostile-environment class to prepare for covering the Republican and Democratic national conventions. It took a moment to sink in. Safety training is a lifeline for correspondents heading to Iraq or Afghanistan, where they could face rocket attacks, firefights and suicide bombers. But Cleveland and Philadelphia? In recent months, American media organizations have been providing reporters headed to the conventions with special training just as they do for those they send to combat zones. To safety experts like Frank Smyth, it makes perfect sense. “I have been a journalist for nearly 30 years. I have never seen this level of concern about any domestic political event,” says the former war correspondent. “People mention unrest unfolding at the DNC, but the RNC has potential to be much more violent.”)

CBS2
— Illinois GOP Leaders Plan To Skip GOP Convention – Jim Williams  (DIERSEN: What does this say to all those in Illinois voted for Trump in the primary election and will vote for him in the general election?)
http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/07/05/illinois-gop-leaders-plan-to-skip-gop-convention/
(INCLUDES VIDEO CLIP: FROM THE ARTICLE: Some top Illinois Republicans plan to boycott their national convention this month. Why? The Trump brand isn’t wearing well with the local GOP. Illinois GOP stalwarts, including Gov. Bruce Rauner and Sen. Mark Kirk will be conspicuously absent. “There’s just not a lot of support for Donald Trump right now among the leaders in the party,” said former Illinois GOP chairman Pat Brady. Brady will attend the convention, as a delegate for Ohio governor John Kasich. CBS 2 is told by party regulars that the state GOP is in crisis mode, pleading with folks to fill seats in Cleveland. Brady says Trump is the reason they are having trouble getting people to go. “I just don’t think he has the temperament to be commander and chief,” Brady said. “There’s no enthusiasm for a candidate so disliked by the general public, particularly in a state like Illinois where he just gets creamed in the suburbs.” Jeb Bush delegate and former state senator Kirk Dillard won’t be at the convention, but has a more charitable reason why some Illinois Republicans are skipping Cleveland. “It’s more than just Donald Trump,” he said. “It’s expensive. Not everyone can afford a mandatory five night hotel stay in a major city like Cleveland.” Brady says a big challenge for the party will be generating support for the rest of the Republican ticket in Illinois this November. Kirk, who is facing a tough re-election fight, has made it clear that he’s not supporting Trump.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Illinois’ GOP establishment takes a pass on Cleveland convention – Greg Hinz  (DIERSEN: What does this say to all those in Illinois voted for Trump in the primary election and will vote for him in the general election?)
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20160705/BLOGS02/160709952/illinois-gop-establishment-takes-a-pass-on-cleveland-convention
(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you’re planning to attend the GOP National Convention in Cleveland two weeks from today, the Illinois delegation still has some hotel rooms available for late-deciding VIPs. Call it a sign of the times. What’s most remarkable about the upcoming GOP confab and official selection of Donald Trump as the party’s presidential nominee is who’s not attending—namely, almost the entire Illinois Republican power structure. A few folks could change their minds at the last minute. But, at the moment, not one member of Illinois’ congressional delegation has said they’ll be in Cleveland, according to both official and inside sources. Nor is Gov. Bruce Rauner, comptroller Leslie Munger or any statewide GOP official. And it goes a lot deeper than that. Also on the no-show list, sources say, are such high-profile, heavily involved Republicans as DuPage County Board President Dan Cronin, Illinois Toll Highway Authority Chairman Bob Schillerstrom, Illinois Manufacturers Association President Greg Baise, top fundraiser Ron Gidwitz and Regional Transportation Authority Chairman Kirk Dillard, though the latter said he may drive in one day for a public transit event. Some of the above have had clear policy differences with Trump, over international trade treaties, immigration reform and the like. A few others, like former Gov. Jim Edgar, ran as delegates committed to another candidate and weren’t named one of the state’s 12 at-large delegates. Still, “There’s not a lot of enthusiasm,” says one consultant who’s been a convention regular. The big shots his clients might want to chat up “won’t be there,” that source says, and there are security issues. “I’m not a baby, but I’m worried.” Even some of the Trump loyalists who were elected don’t have the money—well over $1,000—that attending a convention can cost. I’m told they received some financial assistance in some cases, arranged by friends of the nominee. “Our delegation is filled with a lot of people no one has ever heard of,” says a top lobbyist, referring to Trump delegates who won in most districts. “It’s all ‘Dan who runs the gun store’ types.” So, who will be there? Cook County Commissioner Tim Schneider, for one—he’s the current state GOP chair. Joining him will be two other former chairs: Jack Dorgan, a lobbyist named to an at-large slot, and fellow lobbyist/consultant Pat Brady, who was elected a Kasich delegate. Also at the top of the list are Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar, fundraiser and Cubs part-owner Todd Ricketts and lobbyist/consultant Nancy Kimme. But beyond that, the list gets pretty thin, including just a few legislators and some county and municipal officials, but not Illinois Senate GOP Leader Christine Radogno, though her House counterpart, Jim Durkin, is planning to attend. Some party officials are hoping that will change at the last minute. We’ll see. Meanwhile, at a time when rooms usually are impossible to obtain, Illinois has space.)

http://www.wnd.com/2016/07/government-claims-power-to-control-content-of-sermons/#!
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Iowa Civil Rights Commission is being sued for claiming it has the right to control the content of church services that are “open to the public.” The lawsuit filed by the Alliance Defending Freedom on behalf of Fort Des Moines Church of Christ is part of a nationwide battle against the implementation of President Obama’s declared foreign-policy priority in his final year in office: “gay” rights.” At issue in the Iowa case are state mandates that protect “transgender rights.” Among them are allowing men to enter women’s shower rooms, dressing rooms and restrooms if they say they are women, and banning statements in meetings “open to the public” that “might cause individuals to believe that they are unwelcome because of their perceived gender identity.” The lawsuit charges the mandates violate the U.S. Constitution’s protections for free speech, religion, expressive association, due process and the right to peaceably assemble.)

(INCLUDES VIDEO CLIP: FROM THE ARTICLE: WHEATON, Ill. — Governor Bruce Rauner and Senator Mark Kirk were among those taking part in today’s Fourth of July parade in west suburban Wheaton. Thousands of spectators dressed in red, white and blue lined Main Street to the see the parade. The Governor kicked off the festivities, leading the parade and wishing the state a happy Independence Day. “This is a day to celebrate America’s freedom, our democracy, our foundation born 200 years ago,” Rauner told the crowd. “We’re the greatest nation on earth. We’re the beacon of hope and justice for the entire world because of our focus on individual liberty.” Despite the contentious political atmosphere in Illinois and in the Presidential campaign, most people in Wheaton seemed to leave politics behind for the day to celebrate what brings us all together. They watched as bands, floats and politicians marched along the parade route in a traditional celebration of America’s independence. The Wheaton parade has more than 50 entries and hundreds of participants. It’s one of the largest Fourth of July parades in the Chicago area.)

(INCLUDES VIDEO CLIP: FROM THE ARTICLE: The race for the U.S. senate is one of the closest in the country and today it was being fought along parade routes from Wheaton to Wilmette. Republican Mark Kirk hopes his resilience will resonate with the voters.  While Democrat Tammy Duckworth was making the case that she will fight for the middle class. But many say in this contentious political year, they wanted to set politics aside and have some fun.)

ABC7
— POLITICKING AT INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADES – Ben Bradley
http://abc7chicago.com/politics/politicking-at-independence-day-parades/1413028/
(INCLUDES VIDEO CLIP: FROM THE ARTICLE: Politicking at parades is as American as apple pie. From Illinois’ Governor Bruce Rauner to senate contenders, politicians marched in parades across the area.  But this year, in this state, some politicians are receiving a slightly different reception. If Illinois lawmakers anticipating a happy homecoming after finally coming up with a partial budget, they were mistaken. In Republican-rich Wheaton, one guy yelled at Governor Bruce Rauner to balance the state’s budget. “Balance the budget! Balance the budget!” yelled Buzz Ruttenberg at the governor. “I blame everyone, but he is the leader and when the ship is sinking you look to the captain,” said Ruttenberg when asked who he blamed for the Illinois budget crisis. ABC7 Eyewitness News spoke with a Wheaton resident who was trying to deliver a message to the governor via a sign saying, “No budget; no votes.” “I think he saw it. I don’t think he wants to make eye contact with me,” said the sign holder. The governor wasn’t much into straying from the script today. “Do you hear from people as you march about what’s going on in Springfield about the budget?” ABC7 Eyewitness News reporter Ben Bradley asked the governor. “No, today we celebrate the independence of America,” said Rauner. Nationally, Hillary Clinton had several supporters marching in Wheaton’s parade, but next to no one showed up on Donald Trump’s behalf, despite the fact the county is overwhelmingly Republican. Then again, the state’s GOP senator has said he won’t vote for Trump. “You were the first to come out and say Trump is unfit. Does that mean you’re voting for Hillary Clinton?” Bradley asked Illinois Republican Sen. Mark Kirk. “No, David Petraeus is who I’d like to write-in. I think he’s better qualified. We need someone who will be the best commander-in-chief we’ve ever had,” said Sen. Kirk. In Oak Park, Kirk’s Democratic opponent says the independent streak doesn’t scratch the surface. “I’ve been working hard for the people of Illinois and he has not. You’re talking about a guy who goes with the corporate interests against the interests of everyday people,” said Democratic Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who is running against Kirk for the U.S. Senate. The incumbent Kirk is the underdog in that senate race. The latest polling shows Tammy Duckworth continuing to lead, although there is a lot of time before November.)

(INCLUDES VIDEO CLIP: FROM THE ARTICLE: There was no shortage of politicians along parade routes on July 4th, including U.S. Senate candidates Mark Kirk and Tammy Duckworth. CBS 2’s Roseanne Tellez reports. Amidst the marching bands and flag-waving onlookers, politicians were out in force, walking and working the crowd at July 4th parades. Incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk is fighting off a challenge from Rep. Tammy Duckworth. Monday’s parades offered a rare opportunity to ask both candidates about their campaigns. Kirk stuck with the theme of independence. “I’m much more independent of my party than she is,” the Republican said in Wheaton. “She just does what (her) party says.” Duckworth, a Democrat, focused on her service to the nation. “This is an important day for me. My family has served in uniform since the Revolution,” she said in Skokie. The contest between Kirk and Duckworth is considered the nation’s top Senate race to watch. It could decide the balance of power in that chamber.)

CNN
— Endangered GOP senator Mark Kirk: Dumping Trump is paying off – Rosa Flores
http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/04/politics/mark-kirk-donald-trump/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Mark Kirk, one of the most vulnerable Senate Republicans in the country, is betting that he can survive a tough election season by taking on Donald Trump. The Illinois senator became the first Republican last month to release an anti-Trump television ad, which said his party’s presumptive nominee “is not fit to be commander in chief.” The 32-second spot, running in the Chicago market, outlines Kirk’s efforts to present himself to voters in his liberal-leaning state as more moderate than his fellow Republicans in Washington. “Mark was the first Republican to support a vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee,” the television commercial says. Kirk is one of a handful of endangered Republican senators up for re-election this November who are grappling with Trump’s controversial candidacy. At times, Kirk seems more focused on Trump than his Democratic opponent, Rep. Tammy Duckworth, going so far as reversing his support for Trump last month. Kirk’s success could determine whether the GOP keeps its majority status in the Senate. Kirk’s opposition to Trump kicked into high gear last month amid the controversy over the presumptive GOP nominee’s racially charged criticism of a federal judge. “I find Donald Trump’s belief that an American-born judge of Mexican descent is incapable of fairly presiding over his case is not only dead wrong, it is un-American,” Kirk said at the time. Trump later issued a statement saying that his comments were “misconstrued” by the media. A few weeks into his dump Trump strategy, Kirk says bucking the top of his ticket is paying off. “It’s helped because I’m a very independent voice for Illinois,” he told CNN, adding that his strategy helps “make sure that people know that I always put Illinois first.” A Kirk campaign official tells CNN that there has been an uptick in donor and volunteer interest since the senator distanced himself from Trump. His Democratic opponent Rep. Tammy Duckworth, who was quick to capitalize on Kirk’s about face on Trump, maintains that Kirk still equals Trump. “Mark Kirk is (using) the exact kind of rhetoric as Donald Trump and he just needs to own it and stop lying about it,” Duckworth told CNN. When asked if he could win in November without supporting the top of his ticket, Kirk told CNN, “I have always run way ahead of my ticket.”)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: I have an idea. The federal government needs to compile a list of women who shouldn’t be allowed to get abortions. The criteria for getting on the list must be flexible. If an official at, say, the NIH or FBI think that a woman should be a mother for some reason or other, he or she can block an abortion. Maybe the woman has great genes or a high IQ or the sorts of financial resources we need in parents. Let’s leave that decision where it belongs: in the hands of the government. Heck, there’s really no reason even to tell women if they’re on the “no abort” list. Let them find out at the clinic. And if they go in for an abortion only to discover they are among the million or more people on the list, there will be no clear process for getting off it, even if it was a bureaucratic error or case of mistaken identity. Sound like a good idea?)

— DIVIDED AMERICA: Town and country offer differing realities – AP
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20160704/business/307049999/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: There are few divides in the United States greater than that between rural and urban places. Town and country represent not just the poles of the nation’s two political parties, but different economic realities that are transforming the 2016 presidential election. Cities are trending Democratic and are on an upward economic swing, with growing populations and rising property values. Rural areas are increasingly Republican, steadily shedding population for decades, and as commodity and energy prices drop, increasingly suffering economically. The political divide goes even deeper than simply between the two parties. In the GOP primary, rural areas voted reliably for Donald Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, whose angrier style of politics many analysts argued were too harsh and off-putting to play well with a broader electorate. Urban and suburban Republicans were more likely to support candidates widely seen as more electable like Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Ohio Gov. John Kasich. “The urban-rural split this year is larger than anything we’ve ever seen,” said Scott Reed, a political strategist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce who has advised previous GOP campaigns. While plenty of cities still struggle with endemic poverty and joblessness, a report from the Washington-based Economic Innovation Group found that half of new business growth in the past four years has been concentrated in 20 populous counties.)

The study was carried out on 2,000 unchurched Americans, and was sponsored by the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism at Wheaton College. Those people were considered ‘unchurched’ who had not attended any religious service in the last six months except weddings or funerals, and for holidays. FRONT PAGE MAGAZINE
— THE WORST SMEAR SITE IN AMERICA  The Southern Poverty Law Center smears patriots and provides cover for the nation’s enemies. – Matthew Vadum
http://www.frontpagemag.com/fpm/263332/worst-smear-site-america-matthew-vadum
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The far-left Southern Poverty Law Center relentlessly promotes the Big Lie, wildly popular in the media, that conservative Americans are racists and the real threat to the nation rather than Islamic terrorists. The group claims the principal enemies of the American people are presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, conservatives like David Horowitz, and the Tea Party movement. The SPLC is a shamelessly hypocritical leftist attack machine funded by radical speculator George Soros and a rogue’s gallery of rich people and established philanthropies that want to fundamentally transform America. The fabulously wealthy 501(c)(3) nonprofit has an astounding one third of a billion dollars ($338 million) in assets, as well as investments in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, two offshore tax havens the Left loves to attack (but only when non-leftists stash cash there). The Center characterizes all opposition to immigration and open borders as symptomatic of hate and all political expression of those views to be hate speech. In other words, if you disagree with founder Morris Dees and his minions you are evil and worthy of public condemnation. It may take some intellectual toughness to insist that the nation has the right to decide who may or may not cross its borders, but it’s not hate. Following the Islamist massacre at a gay club in Orlando a fortnight ago, the group has played an integral role in the Left’s propaganda push aimed at taking the focus away from gay-hating Islam and finding creative ways to blame conservatives and Republicans for the slaughter. Two days after Orlando as a sea of rainbow flags rivaling those that washed over Facebook and Twitter following the Supreme Court’s pro-same sex marriage ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges swept over social media, David Dinielli, deputy legal director of SPLC’s LGBT Rights Project, tossed out a red herring as he whined amidst a national outpouring of grief that somehow politicians weren’t doing enough to characterize the attack as an assault on the gay community. Instead of blaming Muslim terrorist Omar Mateen, reportedly a registered Democrat, for the attack, Dinielli blamed people like Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) instead. Many politicians were secretly delighted so many gays were killed, he implied. “[M]any who offered their ‘thoughts and prayers’ know exactly what they are doing. They are trading on political expediency. The demonization of gay, lesbian, and transgender Americans pays, politically.” But this “demonization” of the LGBT community that the Southern Poverty Law Center complains of is pure paranoid fantasy. Anyone who followed media coverage in the days following the June 12 incident knows that cable TV and other media were filled with wall-to-wall denunciations of the Muslim terrorist Omar Mateen by politicians who acknowledged the sexual orientation of the victims whether explicitly or implicitly. Even those not generally sympathetic to gay rights made it clear that murder, including the murder of people based on their sexual preference, was morally abhorrent. None of this is surprising to those of us who have been tracking the SPLC’s adventures in vilification and defamation over the years. The SPLC is waging a scorched-earth war against Donald Trump. The group routinely and baselessly associates Trump with neo-Nazis, white nationalists, and other marginal political actors it calls “the racist right.” Pointing out that these fringe figures back Trump in the election is the most obvious kind of smear. The Left did the same thing to Ronald Reagan in 1984 when the Ku Klux Klan offered him its unwanted endorsement. Reagan waited a full two weeks to denounce the KKK and reject its endorsement. But Trump waited barely a day after a bungled CNN interview Feb. 28 in which Jake Tapper asked him if he would reject the Klan’s endorsement of him. Trump gave a less than clear answer to Tapper, blaming a “bad earpiece” that led him to misunderstand the question. The very next day Trump asked “How many times do I have to continue to disavow people?” and attacked the KKK on Michael Savage’s radio show. Replying to a question, he said “yeah, totally denounce, and I disavowed it, and I’ve disavowed it numerous times, and I’ve disavowed it on Twitter and on Facebook and all over the place but people refuse to accept it.” The SPLC’s annual report on “hate” in America this year features a cover picture of Trump, a man the group blames for increasing hate in the U.S. According to the left-wing Guardian (UK), “the image underscores a theme laid out by the report’s author, about how hate speech has invaded mainstream political discourse in a way that might have shocked many even a year ago.” “I have been writing these Year in Hate and Extremism essays for 20 years now, and only very rarely, if at all, have we seen a year like last year,” said SPLC senior fellow Mark Potok. Hate, of course, isn’t exactly a precise concept in the world of politics and ideology, and the SPLC likes it that way because then it has wide latitude to malign and slander its targets. Its leaders are no doubt proud that Pentagon training materials borrow from SPLC reports and refer to extremists as “haters,” a colloquialism that appears in hip hop music and in humorous graphic art posted on the Internet. Trump is definitely a hater, according to the Center. On April 4 its blog cited his “continued embrace of racist and extremist ideas” and accused him of turning “the political landscape on its side and introduced countless numbers to hate speech and racist conspiracy theories.” It’s all spin and lies. The SPLC is still bellyaching over the courageous, electrifying anti-illegal immigration speech Trump gave last summer when launching his campaign. In it Trump said many of the Mexicans crossing illegally into the U.S. are “people that have lots of problems” who bring drugs and crime with them and that some are “rapists.” Trump’s statements are demonstrably true. He wasn’t saying all Mexicans are criminals, just many of the Mexicans sneaking into the country. This isn’t racism: it is empirical fact. Many of the so-called hate groups the SPLC monitors are so labeled because they fail to genuflect before political correctness. The Center labels as hate groups respectable right-leaning organizations such as the Center for Security Policy (CSP), Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), American Freedom Defense Initiative, and the David Horowitz Freedom Center, which publishes FrontPage. The Southern Poverty Law Center frequently targets New York-based civil rights attorney David Yerushalmi, a co-founder of the American Freedom Law Center and counsel to CSP. In 2011 the SPLC named Yerushalmi to its 10-member “Anti-Muslim Inner Circle.” Among the other “members” of the inner circle are David Horowitz, Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, and Brigitte Gabriel. According to the Center, the rhetoric these individuals use “reveals how doggedly this group works to provoke and guide populist anger over what is seen as the threat posed by the 0.6% of Americans who are Muslim — an agenda that goes beyond reasonable concern about terrorism into the realm of demonization.” The Guardian ran a story last week attacking Yerushalmi for daring to countersue a group of grandstanding Muslim women trying to shake down a Laguna Beach, Calif. café. The women filed a discrimination lawsuit claiming they were given the bum’s rush at the establishment because they were wearing hijabs. The café counters that the women violated the 45-minute seating time limit and that other headscarf-clad women present were not asked to leave. The newspaper regurgitated SPLC writings on Yerushalmi who maintains that the women’s lawyers are “ambulance-chasers” involved in “an extortion.” It reported: “Asked about the SPLC’s characterization of him, Yerushalmi said that he ‘represents a lot of Muslims.’ “I represent Muslim Americans, running from jihad and seeking asylum. If you want to say I’m an anti-jihad lawyer, you’re 100% right,” he continued. “Am I anti-Sharia? Yes, I am. Am I anti-Muslim? Not if he doesn’t have a gun in his hand shooting at me.’ “Yerushalmi alleged that the suit against Urth Caffe was part of a wider “civilizational jihad” waged by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which aims, he said, “to weaken western civilization.” The SPLC never tires of trying to assassinate the character of David Horowitz. A May 24, 2014 profile calls him “the godfather of the modern anti-Muslim movement.”  Without presenting a shred of useful evidence, the Center separately smears Horowitz as “a driving force of the anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-black movements.”  Horowitz rejects these characterizations. On Monday he told this writer: “I’m called the godfather of the anti-Muslim movement, which puts a target on my back, whereas out of million words and scores of hours of speeches on the subject they couldn’t find one sentence to back up their claim.” The Southern Poverty Law Center has been playing this dangerous game for a long time. It doesn’t care if it gets innocent Americans killed. It came close to getting people killed four years ago. SPLC reports inspired left-wing terrorist Floyd Lee Corkins II to shoot up the Washington, D.C. headquarters of the Family Research Council four years ago. The Center identified FRC as a “hate group” not because it actually hates anyone but because it opposes same-sex marriage. Even the reliably left-wing Dana Milbank rejected that designation for FRC in an Aug. 16, 2012 Washington Post column, calling that group “a mainstream conservative think tank.” “I disagree with the Family Research Council’s views on gays and lesbians,” he wrote. “But it’s absurd to put the group, as the law center does, in the same category as Aryan Nations, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Stormfront and the Westboro Baptist Church.” Corkins apparently disagreed. Upon entering FRC’s office he reportedly said “I don’t like your politics” and shot a black Christian security guard who managed to subdue him and lived to forgive him. Later Corkins told investigators “Southern Poverty Law lists anti-gay groups,” the Washington Examiner reported at the time. “I found them online, did a little research, went to the website, stuff like that.” The gay rights-avenging shooter had planned to kill as many FRC staffers as possible and smear Chick-fil-A sandwiches — his backpack contained 15 of them — on their faces as a political statement. He chose that fast food chain whose management is unabashedly Christian because its president was revealed to be a supporter of traditional marriage. Corkins was convicted of terrorism in 2013 and sentenced to 25 years in prison. And when the next Floyd Corkins comes along and actually succeeds in killing someone targeted by the Southern Poverty Law Center, its staffers will direct blame elsewhere. Scapegoating is what they do best.)

— Federal Government Out of Control Again – Bruce Bialosky  (DIERSEN: Constructively, since 1997, the Democrats who run GAO have had me on administrative leave.  Constructively, since 1997, the Democrats who run GAO have forced the Civil Service Retirement System to pay me $50,712 a year to stay home and to not come to work at GAO.  What do Bialosky, Von Ah, and you have to say about that?)
http://townhall.com/columnists/brucebialosky/2016/07/03/federal-government-out-of-control-again-n2185920
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Our federal government suffers from lack of focus trying to do too many things while doing too many poorly. This behemoth allows for huge waste that gets buried in the apathy bred by the very definition of what happens when you are spending OPM (other people’s money). The GAO (Government Accountability Office) recently released a report about administrative leave in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that boggles the mind. Though the Washington Post covered the story, my inner soul told me as staggering as their report was they still were probably doing an inadequate job. Thus, I dug in to find the real story of how our money is being abused. The report was written by a team lead by Andrew Von Ah, the acting director of Homeland Security and Justice at the GAO. Mr. Von Ah was surprisingly responsive for a federal government employee. We connected a couple of times allowing me to address some of my insights from the 34-page report. The report focused only on administrative leave for the DHS. Administrative leave is defined as any paid leave that is not sick leave or vacation leave. What alarmed people was that, over the five years of the study (from 2011-2015), 116 DHS employees were on administrative leave for more than a year costing us over $19.8 million. From all appearances the agency did not have discernible consistent controls over how people were put on admin leave nor how long they stayed on leave.)

DENVER SPRINGS GAZETTE
— That ‘racist’ Summit in Denver – Editorial  (DIERSEN: Democrats run America.  Democrats run Illinois.  Democrats run Cook County.  Democrats run Chicago.  Sooner or later, if not already, Democrats will say that you are a racist, a bigot, a hater, and even worse things if you do not promote Democrats. How have those who do not promote Democrats reacted to that?  How are those who do not promote Democrats reacting to that?  How will those who do not promote Democrats react to that?  Will those who do not promote Democrats a) go to court and get restraining orders against Democrats, b) file lawsuits against Democrats charging them with slander, or c) take stronger actions?  From what I see, ever-increasingly, if a Democrat says that you are a racist, a bigot, a hater, or worse things, a) you will be fired if you have a job, b) you will not be able to get a job, and c) even worse things will happen to you.)
http://gazette.com/editorial-that-racist-summit-in-denver/article/1579534
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: White male protesters stood outside the Colorado Convention Center during the Western Conservative Summit, protesting a “racist” event going on inside. Shouting through bullhorns and waving obscene signs, with fists in the air, the protests occasionally turned violent as police formed a wall between the mob and Summit attendees Friday night. Protesters, mostly motivated by the presence of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, conveyed a central theme: Conservatives are old, white, racist men of privilege. Signs said “Down with This Sort of Thing,” “America was Never Great” and “Purge White Supremacy.” Inside, an audience of thousands anxiously awaited Saturday night’s speech by Colorado’s Republican nominee for the United States Senate. He is Darryl Glenn, a black man who grew up in Colorado Springs, worked his way through the United States Air Force Academy, completed a military intelligence career, worked to support his family while finishing law school and won four local elections by landslides. Glenn symbolizes the possibilities afforded in a free society that defends equal opportunity. Because Glenn is black and conservative, much of the mainstream media wrote him off before the primary. After his nomination, journalist-pundit types effectively called the race for incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet a full seven months before a vote would be cast. At the “racist” Summit, attendees anticipated improving the Senate’s diversity by helping Glenn upset Bennet — a white man brought up in a prominent political family in Washington, D.C. While waiting for Glenn, the audience applauded a lineup of speakers considerably more diverse than the white-male protesters outside. A small sample includes: Kristina Arriaga, a young Hispanic female who serves as executive director of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. A lawyer who grew up in poverty, after her parents escaped Cuba, Arriaga has won several Supreme Court victories and defended the religious practices of American Indians and a variety of other religious minorities. Star Parker, a young black woman who grew up in rough neighborhoods of East St. Louis, Ill. After working her way through college, Parker established the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, based in Washington, D.C., to improve school options for minority children. Linda Chavez, a Hispanic woman who heads the Center for Equal Opportunity. State Rep. Clarice Navarro, a young Hispanic Republican from Pueblo. Vera Ortegon, a Hispanic woman elected by Colorado Republicans as their National Committeewoman for 2016. George Leing, an Asian-American man elected by Colorado Republicans as their National Committeeman for 2016 Casper Stockham, a black man nominated by Republicans to run for Congress in Colorado’s 1st Congressional District. An exhaustive list of young, female, religiously diverse minority scholars and politicos leading the Summit would be too long for inclusion here. We’ll suffice to say white men were scarce. They were a minority among conference speakers, but an overwhelming majority among those charging “racism.” Like other blacks and minorities leading the conference, Glenn said the “old-white-male” stereotype used against Republicans is bizarre. “I am proud to be part of the Republican Party, which elevates people on a basis of merit and not on a basis of race,” Glenn told The Gazette before his speech. “As a meritocracy, we are the young party of diversity. The protesters support a party of mostly old white people telling younger minorities they can’t survive without more government.”)

— Let’s make retirement great again – by bringing back a pension system  As Americans look to build their future on 401k plans, they find themselves perched atop nest eggs that are far too small – Suzanne McGee  (DIERSEN: In 1966, when I was 18 years old, when I started working part-time for the Park Forest Post Office, I began saving for my retirement by earning both Civil Service Retirement System and Social Security credits.  Of course, needless-to-say, my critics/opponents in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, and in DuPage County, and especially those who have financial problems, hate me for that.  My critics/opponents a) were never qualified for and/or b) considered themselves to be “too good” for the jobs that I had a) doing yard work, b) delivering newspapers, c) washing dishes, d) cleaning golf shoes, e) chipping slag, f) pumping gasoline, g) delivering mail, h) working on an automobile assembly line, i) working as a security guard, j) selling tires, automotive services, and major appliances, k) collecting delinquent taxes, and l) auditing federal agencies.  What do you say to my critics/opponents?)
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/jul/03/retirement-pensions-money
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Here’s a thought about how to make America great again: bring back pensions. If Donald Trump really is intent on turning back the clock to the glory days of an America before globalization knocked the stuffing out of the US manufacturing sector, why stop at trade? Part of what is making all but the wealthiest Americans feel so economically vulnerable today isn’t just that incomes have been eviscerated. It’s the fact that when we retire, those of us without pensions – a growing proportion, especially if we’re not public sector employees or union employees – are perched atop very, very tiny nest eggs. Last year’s report from the nonpartisan US government accountability office (GAO) reminded us of the perils. Half of all households headed by Americans 55 and older had no retirement savings at all. While some long-term savers may have retirement accounts with as much as $251,600, Fidelity reported that the average amount in a 401k – the replacements to pensions that companies began rolling out during the 1980s – was little more than a third of that amount.)

ABC7
— CHICAGO U.S. APPEALS JUDGE RICHARD POSNER SAYS HE’S SORRY FOR ANTI-CONSTITUTION RANT – Chuck Goudie and Barbara Markoff, Christine Tressel  (DIERSEN: In 1997, I argued a lawsuit before Judge Posner.  SEE: David J. Diersen v. Chicago Car Exchange, Inc., 110 F.3d 481 (7th Cir. 1997), cert. denied, 118 S.Ct. 178 (1997) (
http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-7th-circuit/1385001.html) The lawsuit involved the Federal Odometer Act (FOA), the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) authority to grant exemptions from the FOA, and the sufficiency of material facts that would make a dealer suspicious of a car’s mileage.  On December 21, 1995, Judge Suzanne B. Conlon, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, granted the Chicago Car Exchange (CCE) summary judgment on the assumption that the exemption that DOT had granted sellers of old cars was valid.  I appealed that decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin).  On September 16, 1996, I presented oral arguments to Chief Judge Posner and Circuit Court Judges Coffey and Kanne.  On March 31, 1997, the Appellate Court ruled that DOT’s exemption for old cars was invalid.  However, the Appellate Court also ruled that I had not presented sufficient material facts to convince a jury that CCE should have been suspicious of the car’s mileage. On May 13, 1997, the Appellate Court denied my motion for rehearing. On August 5, 1997, I filed a petition for writ of certiorari with the Supreme Court of the United States. On October 6, 1997, the Supreme Court denied my petition. The Appellate Court accepted my argument that DOT’s old car exemption was invalid because DOT did not have authority to grant such exemptions. However, subsequently, a) Congress and the Clinton Administration acquiesced to the wishes of the automobile and truck manufacturers and dealers and their lobbyists, amended the FOA, and gave DOT the exemption authority it lacked and b) DOT reissued all the exemptions that it had previously granted including exemptions for sellers of old cars and heavy trucks and for manufactures of cars and trucks. WASHINGTON EXAMINER
— Red states more patriotic than blue states – DAVID WILKES  (DIERSEN: As the Democrat Party’s stranglehold on Illinois tightens, Illinois is ranked as the 46th most patriotic state, that is, the 5th least patriotic state.  In your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois, which individuals, organizations, companies, and government entities take the lead in demonizing, denigrating, and condemning patriotism? Of course, needless-to-say, the aforesaid, their operatives, and their dupes take the lead in demonizing me, in denigrating me, and in condemning me.)
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/report-red-states-more-patriotic-than-blue-states/article/2595462
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Fourth of July is this weekend, meaning barbecues, fireworks and patriotism will be in full force to celebrate. However, according to a report, some states are more patriotic than others.  The personal finance website, WalletHub, released its list of the most patriotic states, revealing that red states are more patriotic in their military and civic engagement than blue states. When combining military and civic engagement, Virginia takes the No. 1 spot as the most patriotic state, ranking No. 3 in military engagement and No. 6 in civic engagement. New Jersey came in last place overall. Alaska takes the lead in the military engagement category with the highest number of veterans at 100.8 per 1,000 residents. That’s two times higher than New York, with 45.5 people. “[Joining the military] seems more like a cultural thing than a true ‘patriotism’ thing,” said Steven Greene, associate professor of political science at North Carolina State University. He drew the stark contrast between those in rural areas, like Alaska, and the south, where military service is disproportionately more “revered and culturally engrained” than the north. However, Theresa Martinez, associate professor of sociology at the University of Utah, says the military is more of an economic incentive. “A means to move out of poverty.”  The first category of civic engagement is voter turnout, as most Americans tout voting as a patriotic endeavor. When voting in the 2012 presidential election, Minnesota took the gold with a 74 percent voter turnout rate, while Arizona took last place at 38 percent. Alison Dagnes, a professor of political science at Shippensburg University, wants to encourage running for elected office and volunteering to work for the country, not just in the military. She calls running for state office or U.S. Congress a “worthy pursuit” that all Americans should consider. Another aspect of civic engagement in the report is Peace Corps participation, which Vermont leads at 59 people per 100,000 residents, 21 times higher than last place Mississippi.)

WALLETHUB
— 2016’s Most Patriotic States – Richie Bernardo  (DIERSEN: As the Democrat Party’s stranglehold on Illinois tightens, Illinois is ranked as the 46th most patriotic state, that is, the 5th least patriotic state.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Expressions of American pride come in many forms — some as simple as Fourth of July fireworks, others as courageous as the sacrifice made by the men and women in our armed forces. The list goes on and on, from exercising one’s right to vote, buying American-made goods (especially apple pie) and even paying taxes. However, it appears that patriotism has been waning in recent years. While 38% of Americans said the U.S. was the best country in the world in 2011, that number fell to 28% in 2014. So one must wonder: What’s at the heart of our patriotic pouting, and where is this problem most pronounced? It’s clear that some states bleed more red, white and blue than others, so we set out to quantify these differences by examining 12 key metrics that collectively speak to issues such as military engagement, voting habits and civil-education requirements. The results, as well as expert commentary and a detailed methodology, can be found below.)

http://www.gopusa.com/?p=11965
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Several decades in, and many thousands dead later, the feckless liberals at MSNBC had a pertinent question, following the Turkey airport attack Tuesday. “Is there a pattern to recent terror attacks?” the network asked on Twitter. Wow. Not even the goofy sit-in by congressional Democrats, or their calls for domestic gun control after Orlando, exposes the barren intellectual wasteland of modern liberalism quite like that moronic question from a national television network. “When Muslims show up chanting Allah, have bombs, guns, people die, my guess is there is a pattern,” one Twitter user responded. Led by the president of the United States — dogged in his determination to personally rehabilitate radical Islam by pretending it doesn’t exist, no matter how many innocent people have to die — American liberals have performed mental gymnastics to look past the blood and the carnage and the chants of “Allahu Akbar” and the repeated declarations of jihad and radical Islamic motivations. “It’s a hate crime!” they protest. “Americans hate gays!” “It’s guns!” As others have noted, it’s easier in the eyes of American liberals for a man to identify as a woman than for a Muslim radical to identify as a Muslim radical. The inanity of American liberals has gotten so bad that terror group al-Qaida has instructed its followers to only target the West’s majority whites — so their attacks in the name of Islam aren’t confused with “hate crimes” aimed at ethnicity or sexual orientation. Even the terrorists are tearing their hair out trying to get through to liberals. Far-left Bill Maher has stood nearly alone in Liberal-land, decrying what radical Muslims have done and are doing to women, gays and others whom American liberals usually protect and defend, but have not in the face of radical Islam. After the Paris attacks, Maher said he’s winning liberal audiences over to his point of view. “You have dared to challenge liberals to stand by their values,” a self-avowed liberal feminist Muslim woman told him. “I’m winning a lot of them over,” Maher replied. “It’s amazing how they used to boo me, and now they don’t.” He’s not winning quickly enough — nor is the U.S. in its fight against the jihadists and their ISIS safe haven in the rubble of Iraq and Syria. Secretary of State John Kerry absurdly tried to spin Tuesday’s Turkey attack, which killed over 40 and injured over 200 others. He tried to argue that the attack was a sign that ISIS is losing. Yes. And if we just restricted Americans’ access to guns, ISIS might really be on the run! As much as we endorse the power of positive thinking, it has to be based on reality. You have to live in the real world. You cannot bend spoons with your mind, and you cannot bend the world to your liking with the force of your will. American guns did not cause the attack in Istanbul. Neither did homophobia have anything to do with it. Will the bombs in Turkey wake anybody up? This willful ignorance would be laughable if it didn’t weren’t so doggone dangerous. You cannot defeat an enemy that you won’t even acknowledge exists. Say it with us: Radical. Islamic. Terrorism.)

July 1 Evening Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: This evening, the Illinois Republican Party notified the news media that Governor Bruce Rauner and Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti will walk in Wheaton’s Independence Day Parade.  Previously, the Wheaton Park District announced that U.S. Senator Mark Kirk; State Senator Mike Connelly and State Representative Jeanne Ives; State Representative Peter Breen; DuPage County Board candidate Tim Elliott, DuPage County Board member Amy Grant, and DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan; and the Milton Township Republican Central Committee will be in the parade. For the 11th consecutive year, DuPage Republicans will help sponsor the parade. This year, they are a $2,500 Gold Celebration Partner for the fireworks and parade. 22 DuPage Republicans have pledged $2,500: $250 from Chris Nybo; $150 from Liam Brennan, Dave Diersen, and Phil Suess; and $100 each from Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Fred Bucholz, Mike Connelly, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Jeanne Ives, Richard Jorgensen, Chris Kachiroubas, Mark Kirk, Brian Krajewski, Bob Lyon, Deanne Mazzochi, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, Tim Whelan, and Jim Zay. The DuPage County Republican contribution has been designated for the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums $1,000 entry, the Wheaton North High School Band $600 entry, and the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Band $600 entry. I have hand-delivered to residences and businesses in Wheaton 500 flyers that promote the parade, Republican participation in the parade, and Republican sponsorship of the parade and fireworks.  Be sure and stop by the DuPage County Republican booth at the fireworks.)

CONSERVATIVE HQ
— The Fourth of July doesn’t work on Democrats  (DIERSEN: QUESTION: Who discourages Republicans from participating in Independence Day Parades and who discourages people from watching Independence Day Parades?  ANSWER: Those who are anti-patriotic, anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors.)
http://www.conservativehq.com/node/23485
(FROM THE ARTICLE: We conservatives often bemoan the commercialization and secularization of our traditional holidays.  Christmas – or should we say the Winter Holiday – now begins around November 15, Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day are occasions for mattress sales, not solemn commemorations of the sacrifices made to preserve our way of life. Now comes news from researchers at Harvard University that the July 4th holiday commemorating the announcement of the Declaration of Independence may still be serving its intended purpose – promoting patriotism. The good news is it only seems to work on Republicans. According to the study by Andreas Madestam and David Yanagizawa-Drott, “There is no evidence of an increased likelihood of identifying as a Democrat, indicating that Fourth of July shifts preferences to the right rather than increasing political polarization.” The three key findings of those attending July 4th celebrations: *When done before the age of 18, it increases the likelihood of a youth identifying as a Republican by at least 2 percent. *Celebrating Independence Day raises the likelihood that parade watchers will vote for a Republican candidate by 4 percent. *Celebrating the 4th of July boosts the likelihood a reveler will vote by about 1 percent and increases the chances they’ll make a political contribution by 3 percent. *What’s more, the impact isn’t fleeting. “Surprisingly, the estimates show that the impact on political preferences is permanent, with no evidence of the effects depreciating as individuals become older,” said the Harvard report. It is worth noting that many of the grievances the Founders outlined in the Declaration of Independence had to do with taxes and big government, charges we regularly level at Democrats, such as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, so perhaps it is understandable that the sentiments commemorated on July 4th don’t resonate with establishment Democrats as much as they do with conservatives. However, we are not sure that turning children into establishment Republicans is a good thing; they might find themselves, like Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, drawn to doubling the national debt, pork barrel spending, endless and inconclusive wars and bringing vast numbers of anti-constitutional immigrants to our country. Given that movement conservatives are the last remaining American political movement to fully embrace the values and guidance of the Declaration of Independence, it seems to us that if there was ever a time for Americans to recall exactly why we declared our independence it is this Fourth of July.)

— Sanders: ‘I do not hate Secretary Clinton’ – CNN (DIERSEN: Some of my critics/opponents might admit that they hate me, especially those who have threatened physical violence against me. But the rest would falsely deny that they hate me.  They blame me for their problems, they blame me for your problems, they blame me for my problems, and they blame me for everyone’s problems.)

HUFFINGTON POST
— Here’s The Draft Democratic Party Platform – Peter Dreier
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-dreier/heres-the-draft-democrati_b_10778090.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Here’s the draft of the Democratic Party platform. It is dramatically more progressive than the 2012 version. The nation’s political center of gravity has changed. Thanks to grassroots movements like Occupy Wall Street, the Fight for 15, the Dreamers, Black Lives Matter, .350 (fossil fuel divestment), struggles over women’s rights, LGBT rights, voting rights, and gun violence, along with the Sanders insurgency, the Democratic Party has shifted leftward. While progressive’s won’t be happy with everything in here, this draft platform is a reflection of that reality. Remember, this is still a draft — what the drafters call “deliberative and predecisional.” But it is definitely a great step forward.)
