https://energynews.us/2019/09/16/midwest/illinois-marijuana-growers-will-face-energy-efficiency-and-reporting-rules/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Marijuana can be an energy intensive crop. The new electricity load to power lighting, heating and ventilation for indoor grow facilities has strained the grid and even caused blackouts in other places after it was legalized. The Illinois law seeks to avoid those problems by mandating efficiency standards and capping the amount of power used per square foot. Clean energy advocates said they were hopeful the law would lead other states to follow suit, though more work is needed between utilities and growers to manage power demand.)

(FROM THE STATEMENT: In
America, the playing field has never — been — level. If you are a woman, if you
are Black, if you are Latinx, if you have a disability, if you speak another

equity.)
POLITICO ILLINOIS
— ERIKA HAROLD, the former GOP attorney general candidate, is not going to run
for Rep. John Shimkus’ seat next year. A source close to Harold told Playbook:
“She’s not running. It’s not the right time for Erika.” Harold was seen as a
shoo-in for the 54th congressional district, having secured 44 percent of the
vote in that district when she ran against Attorney General Kwame Raoul last
year. Shimkus surprised Republicans when he announced a few weeks ago that he
wouldn’t seek re-election. There was an initial scramble for the seat, but now
it looks like only state Sen. Jason Plummer (54th) is still considering a run.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The
good news is that somebody is once again making money from journalism. The bad
news is that it’s not those who are doing the actual work of producing
journalism; instead, it’s Google and Facebook, which have figured out how to
“monetize” the publication of news. A recent report in a study for the News
Media Alliance holds that Google made $4.7 billion from the work of news
publishers in 2018 through advertising linked to its search engine results and
its Google News page. Journalists ought to see some of that revenue, argues
David Chavern, the president and chief executive of the alliance, which represents
2,000 U.S. newspapers. The tech companies “make money off the arrangement,”
Chavern said in the New York Times, “and there needs to be a better outcome for
news publishers.”)
