(FROM THE ARTICLE: Just ask Don Tracy, the Republican running for U.S. Senate against Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton. He’s made his opponent’s unwillingness to face off a leading campaign talking point. While Stratton has committed to a debate on WTTW, Chicago’s local public television channel, that’s it. Darren Bailey this spring declined to debate his primary opponents Ted Dabrowski, Rick Heinder and James Mendrick, winning the primary election soundly anyway. Bailey is rightfully upset that Gov. JB Pritzker has apparently declined to debate him and has agreed only to a single “forum” on WTTW, which does not typically reach a large downstage audience. We’d hope arrangements are being made for wider distribution. Downstate U.S. Rep. Mary Miller also demurred when it came to debates. We suspect she didn’t want to have to take on a more pragmatic, independent-minded candidate in Judy Bowlby, whom we endorsed. Both Bailey and Miller won their primaries handily, which unfortunately reinforces bad behavior. Namely, once you’re confident enough that you can win, campaigning becomes less about making your case to the public and more about holding your ground.)

I am hand-delivering DuPage GOP-provided envelopes to the 660 registered Republican and Independent voters in their 400 residences in my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 59 in Wheaton. The envelopes have 660 DuPage County Election Division-provided mailing labels and contain a copy of the sample ballot, a Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO)-provided outstanding Voter Guide, and campaign literature from the 14 of 18 Republican candidates who provided their literature to the MTRO so far. By the time I am done, I will have stuffed 6,400 pieces — 5,600 literature pieces (14X400), 400 Voter Guides, and 400 sample ballots — in 400 envelopes and hand-delivered them. I have to fold the Voter Guides (400), sample ballots (400), and two of the literature pieces (800). I am using my photocopier to make 400 copies of the 2-sided sample ballot and 200 color copies of the Voter Guide. Her error-filled 1619 Project, which the American Federation of Teachers promoted in schools, likely in those very schools Hannah-Jones’s daughter attended (Update: was taught), claimed that America was fatally flawed from its foundation, and remained hopelessly flawed. Black people were victims. The only conclusion that could be reached from it was reparations and of course, reinforced affirmative action. That made it easy to not worry too much about the results coming out of the public schools, which Democrats running these cities don’t worry too much about as they throw more money at them. It would explain why promoting black children without merit, giving every kid an ‘A’ no matter how poorly they performed, could continue without any apparent consequences for the kids or the schools. One reason, of course, is that teachers were afraid to be branded ‘racist’ if they did flunk any of the kids for nonperformance, given the atmosphere. Another reason was, why not? If teachers could never be fired for failing to teach and kids would go on to college no matter what their preparation, why not just give all A’s? There would be no consequences either way and less attention from giving the A’s and passing the kids along to the next level. But what actually became of the kids in these failing schools, especially the ones who were tracked into college with no education?)
