— With midterms approaching, Democrats go all-in on health care, pre-existing conditions – AP (DIERSEN: My wife and I pay only $6,000/year for $24,000/year worth of health, dental, and vision insurance. Knowing that federal retirees and their spouses have lifetime membership in the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program (https://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insurance/healthcare/) helped me endure the many negatives associated with being a federal employee for almost 30 years. It helped me endure a) my Democrat GAO superiors giving me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranking me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, not promoting me beyond GS-13, getting rid of my mentor in 1987, keeping me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forcing me to take a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980; b) my Democrat IRS superiors not promoting me beyond GS-12, disallowing my education deductions in 1978, getting rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowing my partial day per diem claims in 1974; and c) my Democrat Post Office superiors forcing me resign in 1969 and disallowing my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968.)

— It’s better to be born rich than talented – Andrew Van Dam  (DIERSEN: Everyone who paints others as having been born with silver spoons in their mouths should be required to disclose what their parents’ income and net worth was when they were in kindergarten, grade school, middle school, high school, and college.)
https://www.dailyherald.com/business/20181014/analysis-its-better-to-be-born-rich-than-talented
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The least-gifted children of high-income parents graduate from college at higher rates than the most-gifted children of low-income parents. First, consider the people whose genome scores in the top quarter on a genetic index the researchers associated with educational achievement. Only about 24 percent of people born to low-income fathers in that high-potential group graduate from college. That’s dwarfed by the 63 percent college graduation rate of people with similar genetic scores who are lucky enough to be born to high-income fathers. Contrast that with a finding from the other end of the genetic scoring scale: about 27 percent of those who score at the bottom quarter of the genetic index, but are born to high-income fathers, graduate from college. That means they’re at least as likely to graduate from college as the highest-scoring low-income students.)
