DAILY HERALD
— Endorsement: Gwen Henry for DuPage County treasurer. DD: My wife and I have known Henry since the 1980s. Henry is a registered Republican voter in my precinct. She has long served as the Treasurer for the DuPage County Republican Central Committee. I did lots to help elect her DuPage County Treasurer in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 in my roles as a Republican Precinct Committeeman since 1999, as the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, as an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member 2003-2007, as the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman 2005-2012, and as the Republican fundraiser for Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks 2005-2019. Recently, I hand-delivered Henry’s campaign literature to 370 residences in my precinct. I have always been very impressed with her professional qualifications and accomplishments. We are both CPAs. But according to my critics/opponents, because I am much too conservative, my efforts to help elect her cost her many votes.
https://www.dailyherald.com/20261025/endorsements/endorsement-gwen-henry-for-dupage-county-treasurer/
(FROM THE ENDORSEMENT: The race for DuPage County treasurer pits longtime Republican incumbent Gwen Henry of Wheaton against Democrat challenger Yeena Yoo of Elmhurst. Yoo is an excellent candidate. She’s a litigation attorney who has served on the DuPage County Board since 2022. Yoo decided not to seek reelection to her District 2 seat so she could run for county treasurer. If elected, Yoo says she would bring fresh eyes and dedication as a “thoughtful, engaged leader” in the treasurer position. Henry, who was first elected DuPage County treasurer in 2006, is a certified public accountant with financial and leadership experience. She also has a long record of public service. Henry is a former mayor of Wheaton and served as a county board member and forest preserve commissioner. Over the years, Henry has worked to improve returns on investments and enhance customer service in the treasurer’s office. She also introduced electronic billing and electronic payments and started allowing partial property tax payments. To continue improving the office’s efficiency, Henry says she’s working to increase the number of taxpayers who receive their property tax bills by email and pay them online. Henry said increasing the number of emailed bills reduces costs for both postage and employee time to process transactions. Yoo agrees the office should continue working to encourage more taxpayers to receive their property tax bills by email and pay online. But she says the office needs new leadership to modernize its operations and improve taxpayer services. She said the office needs to modernize by reducing its reliance on paper, printing and postage. It must also expand digital services and payment options for residents. Yoo says she has the experience, vision and determination to help the office keep pace with modern expectations. Yoo certainly makes a very strong case for herself. Her legal knowledge and experience on the county board would help her lead the office. But Henry has been the county treasurer for a very long time. And under her leadership, the office has run smoothly. So while we are very impressed with Yoo, we don’t see a reason to make a change. Henry is endorsed.)

— DD: What did you do to avoid medical debt? For me, since I was 18 in 1966, and for my wife since we got married in 1978, to get 72% payment of our healthcare insurance premiums paid for by the federal government, for almost 30 years, I put up with tremendous efforts by my Democrat Post Office (1966-1969), IRS (1971-1980), and GAO (1980-1997) superiors to waste my career and to get rid of me. For Democrat leaders, federal jobs are for Democrats, and especially for Democrats who are minority, female, younger, and/or veteran.

— Who are your critics/opponents? My critics/opponents who claim to be conservative and/or Republican are anti-conservative and/or anti-Republican. Most commonly, they reject the personal responsibility, traditional marriage and family, right to life, immigration, anti-vice, Second Amendment, and/or equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Republican Party platform. They stress their success in using their operatives and their dupes to take adverse actions against me. The stress their success in having them a) end my Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Convention Platform and Resolutions Committee membership in 2024, b) end my service as the Republican fundraiser for Wheaton Independence Day parades and fireworks in 2021, c) gerrymander my precinct in 2015, d) end my TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairmanship in 2012, e) end my Illinois Center Right Coalition (ICRC) Steering Committee membership 2007, f) almost getting ICRC to censure me for my newsletters in 2006, g) end my Milton Township Republican Organization (MTRO) webmaster service in 2010 and 2004, and h) defeat my bid for the open MTRO Treasurer position in 2004 by a vote of 69 to 13. My critics/opponents have had great success turning MTRO, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and IRP leaders against me. They have had great success in getting them to blame me and to blame my newsletters for all the defeats that Republican candidates on ballots in my precinct have suffered since 2000. – Dave Diersen

— What do you do and who are your direct competitors? I am a conservative Republican news aggregator. My direct competitors include other news aggregators. All the money that I spend putting my GOPUSA ILLINOIS newsletters together and sending them out comes from my Civil Service Retirement System pension, my Social Security, and my retirement savings. My direct competitors continue to be furious that I have the money, time, motivation, ability, and experience a) to put my newsletters together, b) to send them out every day free of charge and without any advertising or donation requests, and c) to post copies of them on my website www.gopillinois.com with no paywall, advertising, or donation requests. According to my critics/opponents, “You can’t tell Diersen what to do.” Of course, I take that as a badge of honor. What do you say to my direct competitors who blame me and who blame my newsletters for the defeats that Republican candidates on ballots in my precinct have suffered since 2000? Far too many of my direct competitors destroy those like me a) who they cannot manipulate or dominate, b) who refuse to glorify or praise them, c) who refuse to pander to them, d) who refuse to serve as one of their operatives or dupes, e) who refuse to cover up their wrong doing, and/or f) who refuse to give them money. – Dave Diersen

— John Kass News: Winding Down DD: Proft came to Kass’ defense when the jacobin Tribune newsroom union came after him. If I wrote an article about those who came to my defense when my critics/opponents had their operatives and their dupe take their big adverse actions against me, it would be an extremely short article.
https://johnkassnews.com/john-kass-news-winding-down/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: It’s time for me to wind down the website. Past time. I held on too long because it had cost me too much in pain and psychic blood at the hands of the jacobin newsroom union that destroyed the once-great Chicago newspaper that I loved. And I loved it for those decades and decades. But I’ve run my race. Now it is time for me to go. Past time. I didn’t want to consider it once. I was afraid. I wouldn’t even dare brush up against it. Especially when clinging rather desperately to some old man dreams of myself as Larertes in his garden, an old man still hoping to prove his worth as the warrior he once had been, still insisting he had spears left to throw. But I’m old now. There are no spears. Five strokes in three years convinced me. After that wonderful Indian Summer that we just had, the sky grew cold and I finally came face to face with it: Betty explained the math. Five strokes in three years, she said, And you can still speak, you can still read and use a search engine, you can read Victor Davis Hanson and Plato, you can still discuss the great ideas. But another stroke? I didn’t need any further convincing. I couldn’t contemplate the alternatives. There was a dark chilly sky overhead. The wind was up. You could feel it in your hair. It was a Dylan Thomas kind of day, a Simon and Garfinkle kind of day. I’d written a version of this in an email to our contributors at JohnKassNews.com and called it “Winding Down.” Within hours I was contacted by the left-wing Axios, the left-wing Politico and left wing Chicago Tribune, all requesting comment. I wasn’t interested in their cheap shots. But then a call came in from my friend Dan Proft, the conservative Salem radio talk-show host on Chicago’s Morning Answer AM 560. When I was unfairly slandered by the jacobin newsroom union—and some others I had considered as friends were silent and afraid– it only was Proft, Charles Lipson and Tom Bevan of Real Clear Politics who stood to defend me. Proft invited me on his show, the Morning Answer. And I leave the link here if you’d like to listen.)
