(FROM THE DUPAGE COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE: Democrat Election Judge Beverly Johnston was arrested yesterday for stealing campaign signs erected by District 2 County Board Member Republican nominee Sean Noonan. Villa Park police arrested Johnston, who was found to be in possession of campaign signs of other Republican candidates at the time, as she was in the process of removing Noonan’s 16 square foot sign that was securely anchored in front of Midland Plumbing & Sewer 187 E. North Avenue in the Village of Villa Park. “As a police officer and current county board member who makes a point of campaigning fairly and honestly, this type of illegal behavior is shocking coming from a Judge, even if she is only a limited authority election Judge. She still takes an oath to uphold the law,” said Noonan. DuPage County Republican Chairman Jim Zay has asked candidates and volunteers to document all cases of sign theft and vandalism since September 1st. “We have a large number of Cook County Democrat political operatives and Madigan’s Chicago precinct swarming all over DuPage County practicing machine politics and we expect this from them because that’s how they were taught to campaign — illegally,” said Zay. “I am as amazed as anyone that an election Judge duly appointed by the DuPage County Clerk would resort to this kind of action while she is supposed to be an honest, fair and impartial part of the election system.” The Police Report number assigned by the Villa Park Police Department in the Johnston case is VPPC2002506.)
