July 1 Morning Edition

GOPUSA ILLINOIS
— I urge everyone to watch Wheaton’s fireworks Monday evening, July 3, and watch Wheaton’s Independence Day parade on July 4.  For event details,  visit
https://wheatonparkdistrict.com/events/july4/. Parade entries include Peter Roskam for U.S. Congress (#17); Jeanne Ives for Illinois House and Mike Connelly for Illinois Senate (#16); Peter Breen for Illinois House (#18); Bob Berlin for DuPage State’s Attorney (#19); Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, and Tim Whelan for DuPage District 4 (#21); James Mendrick for DuPage Sheriff (#23); Karen Wilson for DuPage Judge (#20); Milton Township Republican Central Committee (#22), and Bibbianno for DuPage Sheriff (#27) have entries. The parade lineup is at https://wheatonparkdistrict.com/wp-content/uploads/July_4_2017_Parade_Lineup.pdf. This year, for the 12th year in a row, “DuPage Republicans” will help sponsor the parade.  They will be one of the two $2,500 “Star” sponsors and again sponsor the Wheaton high school bands (#25) and the Tunes of Glory Pipes and Drums (#15) parade entries and again have a booth at the July 3 fireworks. Outstandingly, again this year Tim Whelan will coordinate Republican use of the booth at the fireworks. This year again, I have delivered flyers to the residences and businesses on the parade route. The flyers list the Republican entries in the parade and the Republicans who helped sponsor entries. Outstandingly, the flyers were printed courtesy of Alpha Graphics. This year, outstandingly, Roger Claar is a $500 contributor, Chris Nybo is a $250 contributor, Phil Suess is a $150 contributor, and Bob Berlin, Peter Breen, Mike Connelly, Grant Eckhoff, Tim Elliott, Amy Grant, Gwen Henry, Paul Hinds, Jeanne Ives, Marty Keller, Deanne Mazzochi, Paula McGowen, James Mendrick, Peter Roskam, Darlene Ruscitti, and Tim Whelan are $100 contributors. Please plan on watching the 22-minute fireworks Monday evening July 3 at Graf Park, and stopping by the DuPage Republicans booth.  Please plan on watching the parade on Tuesday morning July 4 or walking in the parade with one of the Republican entries. If you want to walk with one of the Republican entries, I suggest being at the staging area at Fifth Third Bank on north Main Street at 9:00 AM. This year is the 10th anniversary of an elephant walking behind Roskam in the parade.  I had the honor of raising $2,000 on short notice from DuPage Republicans to sponsor that elephant.  – Dave Diersen

— Tracking Retirement Savings Progress – Brian Hershberg  (DIERSEN: All during the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO 1980-1997, my Democrat GAO superiors a) knew what my Civil Service Retirement Service (CSRS) pension would be, b) what my Social Security would be, c) how much my wife and I had saved for our retirement, d) what our financial, real estate, and other assets were, e) what our expenses were, f) what our debts were, and g) much more. They used the aforesaid information a) to justify their deeming my wife and I to be undeservedly selfish filthy rich DINKS (dual income, no kids) and b) to justify forcing me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old. In today’s dollars, my GAO salary was $122,991.  My $50,856 CSRS pension today is only 41% of that.)

— American Dignity on the Fourth of July  Reading Frederick Douglass’s Independence Day address from 1852 may ease the despair caused by listening to the President. – David Remnick  (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes reject the assertion that “all men are created equal.”  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted a) that my parents, my grandparents, my great grandparents, and the rest of ancestors were undeservedly filthy rich, b) that I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, and c) that I have always been privileged. While I worked for the Post Office 1966-1969, they stressed the new 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint, the new 1968 Oldsmobile 442, and the new 1969 Dodge Charger SE that I had bought and drove to work. They stressed that I stayed at the University Plaza Dormitory at NIU.  While I worked for IRS 1971-1980, they stressed the new 1972 Chevy Corvette, the new 1978 Chevy Chevette, and the new 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale that I had bought. They stressed the new town home that I had bought in 1972, the studio condo that I had bought in 1974, the one bedroom condo that I had bought in 1976, 1017 East Harrison in Wheaton that my wife and I had bought in 1978. They stressed the tuition that I had paid for graduate courses at Loyola 1972-1976 and DePaul 1976-1980. They stressed my wife’s salary.  While I worked for GAO 1980-1997, they stressed 915 Cove Court that we had built in Wheaton in 1984, the collector cars that I had bought in 1989 and 1994, the tuition that I had paid for graduate finance courses 1992-1997, my wife’s salary, that we had no children, and the money that we had saved for our retirement.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: More than three-quarters of a century after the delegates of the Second Continental Congress voted to quit the Kingdom of Great Britain and declared that “all men are created equal,” Frederick Douglass stepped up to the lectern at Corinthian Hall, in Rochester, New York, and, in an Independence Day address to the Ladies of the Rochester Anti-Slavery Sewing Society, made manifest the darkest ironies embedded in American history and in the national self-regard. “What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July?”)

FORBES
— How Mainstream Sites Contribute To The ‘Fake News’ Problem – Tony Bradley (DIERSEN: Of course, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes a) pander to the Democrat news media in Illinois and b) have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are full of links to “demonstrably false news and propaganda.” According to them, the only legitimate government or political news or commentary is that which they put out or approve of. Because I refuse to submit to their manipulation/domination, they a) refuse to include
diersen@aol.com on their press release and press advisory lists, b) discourage me from putting GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and sending them out, and c) discourage everyone from reading the emails.  Those who crow that they do not read GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are crowing that they are operatives or dupes for my critics/opponents.)
https://www.forbes.com/sites/tonybradley/2017/06/30/how-mainstream-sites-contribute-to-the-fake-news-problem/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The explosion of websites creating and sharing demonstrably false news and propaganda, and the rise of bots and fake social media accounts that artificially inflate the popularity of those stories make it challenging for many average readers to sift through fake news to find legitimate stories. One of the biggest problems, however, is that some legitimate mainstream websites are contributing to the problem. Many sites—Forbes included—display online advertising that is intentionally designed to look like a legitimate story. Scroll to the bottom of a story on PCWorld, Forbes, or other media websites and you’ll typically find a collection of thumbnail images that are ostensibly related or theoretically of interest to you. While many of the headlines sound interesting and could potentially be actual news stories, the reality is that almost all of these stories are paid advertisements—and most of them point to fake news sites that try to sell you on some shady, questionably legal product or service.)
