(FROM THE ARTICLE: In Lake Bluff, village board members were scheduled to address a resolution in late June that would prohibit businesses wanting to offer recreational marijuana products from starting up in the village until officials can craft and agree on appropriate regulations, village officials said recently. Lake Forest officials, meanwhile, are planning to host an upcoming workshop, where, they said, they plan to address different issues related to recreational marijuana use. As part of the resolution in Lake Bluff, village board members would direct the Lake Bluff Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals to make recommendations to the board regarding possible regulations affecting recreational cannabis businesses. “State law requires that we allow medical cannabis facilities, but we have the power to ban recreational cannabis facilities,” said Glen Cole, assistant to the village administrator in Lake Bluff. Medical marijuana dispensaries already are permitted to operate in certain portions of the village once a special-use permit is granted, Cole said. During a meeting in early June, Village President Kathy O’Hara said officials plan to consult with village attorneys as they go about developing regulations and weigh the ramifications of legalized recreational marijuana use in Illinois. “We are going to push the pause button,” O’Hara said. “I am going to be bringing back to the board for discussion what best fits our community and where we want to go with this.” The upcoming workshop in Lake Forest also should allow city officials the opportunity to weigh the possible effects of legalized marijuana use in the community, said City Manager Jason Wicha. “We’ll see some policy direction from the city council on how they want to proceed,” Wicha said of the meeting. Wicha said Lake Forest staff members still are reviewing the specifics of the bill that awaits Pritzker’s signature, but he said the city believes provisions are in the bill that could prevent marijuana dispensaries from coming to Lake Forest. “I know that is something that the council is going to want to look at,” he said.)
