— How saving and sensible investing can pay for a long, active, comfortable retirement – Thomas Heath (DIERSEN: Your required minimum distribution (RMD) says a lot about how successful you were saving for your retirement. My RMD is only about $10,000/year. It would be much greater if my Democrat superiors in the federal government had not wasted my career and forced me to take their early retirement “offer” in 1997 when I was 49 years old.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: White and his wife live mostly on the dividends from 62 blue-chip companies, including Coca-Cola, Bristol-Myers, Ford, Verizon, Caterpillar, American Electric Power, Duke Energy, Baxter Labs, Johnson & Johnson and PPG Industries. He also owns a couple of exchange traded funds (ETFs). He said all the holdings have appreciated “a lot,” but he doesn’t plan to sell any because, (a) he doesn’t need the money and (b) selling would create a sizable tax bill. (He hates the “required minimum distribution” that he must take on his tax-deferred retirement accounts because they raise his taxes.) White is fortunate in one respect. His father, who was an engineer with New York Telephone, gave him early training in investing and taught him the value of owning shares in good companies. It took me until I was 40.)

CRAIN’S CHICAGO BUSINESS
— Chicago CEOs outrun peers on pay, while employees trail national median The wide pay gap reflects the area’s high concentration of big companies with lots of low-wage workers. – STEVEN R. STRAHLER (DIERSEN: Trump’s salary is only $400,000/year. In today’s dollars, my GAO salary in 1997, when I was 49 years old, was $127,654/year. That pay ratio is only 3.13. If Trump’s salary was adjusted for inflation, it would be $704,687/year today. I should write a book about my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who viciously demonize, viciously denigrate, and viciously condemn government employees as being overcompensated. My GAO salary would have much lower if I had not earned a) a job-related bachelor’s degree when I was 21 in 1970 and job-related master’s degrees when I was 27, 31, and 48, b) job-related professional certifications when I was 30, 32, 41, 45, 47, and 48, and c) a job-related professional license when I was 32. My GAO salary would have been much higher if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, and/or veteran.)
https://www.chicagobusiness.com/news/chicago-ceos-outrun-peers-pay-while-employees-trail-national-median
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The average Jo working at a Chicago public company made 1.3 percent more last year, lifting her median wage to $68,262—barely 1 percent of the middling CEO’s $5.6 million. For the second consecutive year, proxy filings compare CEO compensation to the median-paid employee’s. Excluding a couple of outliers, this so-called pay ratio ranges between 661 and 12 at the 107 local companies reporting so far. Chicago’s median pay ratio rose from 111 to 113.5 in 2018. That’s well above the nationwide median of 74, with a typical local CEO making 14.6 percent more than counterparts around the country. The opposite was true for median-paid workers at Chicago-based companies, who made nearly 20 percent less than the national median of $84,398, which rose faster last year than Chicago’s median.)

I have repeatedly asked my representative on the IRP State Central Committee to appoint me to that committee. Democrat plants, Libertarian plants, Green plants, and RINOs want to a) strike the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, and other planks from the IRP platform and b) strike the illegal drugs and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) and other planks from the Republican Party platform.)

My Democrat GAO superiors would stress that they forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $19,568 (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. My Democrat IRS superiors would stress that they did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions in 1978, got rid of my mentor in 1975, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors would stress that they forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. (FROM THE ARTICLE: The College Board plans to add a 1-to-100 “adversity score” to student SAT results, in a well-intentioned attempt to add context to a youngster’s performance on the test and — this is the theory, anyway — encourage schools to admit more high-potential youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds. So far, they’re hiding the formula of how 15 different variables, including a school or neighborhood’s poverty levels, housing stability and crime rates, will be weighed in boiling everything down to a single, simple number. Bad beginning, especially for an institution committed to teaching and learning.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Increases the required minimum distribution age to 72 from 70 ½ years old by 2023, and then age 75 in 2030; creates an exception for individuals with $100,000 or less in eligible accounts, so that they can continue saving instead of having to withdraw; and reduces the penalty for failing to take RMDs from 50% to 25% of what they should have distributed. “It has a lot of common sense things that would make life easier for retirement savers and plan sponsors and administrators,” Grohowsky said.)
