— Lawmakers should look outside of Springfield when choosing a fiscal watchdog. What if lawmakers had chosen me instead of Mautino? When they chose Mautino, I had almost 18 years of experience working for GAO, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 Levels, currently $117,807-$153,151/year, and almost 9 years of experience working for IRS, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 Levels, currently $99,069-$112,280/year. I was a licensed CPA and a Certified Internal Auditor, Fraud Examiner, Government Financial Manager, Financial Services Auditor, and Forensic Accountant. I had master’s degrees in business, accounting, and finance.
https://www.illinoispolicy.org/lawmakers-should-look-outside-of-springfield-when-choosing-a-fiscal-watchdog/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois will soon be seeking a new top fiscal watchdog, but how it picked the current one shows it should change how it picks the next one. Illinois Auditor General Frank Mautino is set to retire after a decade in the position and 24 years as a state lawmaker before that, according to reporting from the Illinoize. His campaign spending came under scrutiny and ended with ethics violations, a federal criminal investigation and a refusal to respond to requests for information. The auditor general’s job is to monitor how public funds are spent in the state. The state constitution puts Mautino’s replacement solely in the hands of the General Assembly. Lawmakers picked one of their own when they chose Mautino. His replacement should not be one of their own, or any long-time Springfield insider. The person should be independent and an outsider with a clean record. Mautino’s proved to be spotty, to say the least.)

— Alarm raised on new federal ‘hiring plan’ that quizzes applicants about Trump. https://www.alternet.org/trump-opm-hiring-guidelines/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) unveiled new hiring guidelines on Thursday, May 29, describing them as a “merit hiring plan.” And according to a joint memo from acting OPM Director Charles Ezell and Vince Haley, director of President Donald Trump’s Domestic Policy Council, job applicants are being quizzed on their favorite Trump policies. One of the four essay questions applicants are being asked reads, “How would you help advance the president’s executive orders and policy priorities in this role? Identify one or two relevant executive orders or policy initiatives that are significant to you, and explain how you would help implement them if hired.” The Ezell/Haley memo underscored the Trump Administration’s disdain for DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) policies, using anti-affirmative action rhetoric. Ezell and Haley wrote, “The American people deserve a federal workforce dedicated to American values and efficient service. Yet, federal hiring criteria long ago abandoned any serious need for technical skills and adherence to the Constitution. Instead, the overly complex federal hiring system overemphasized discriminatory ‘equity’ quotas and too often resulted in the hiring of unfit, unskilled, bureaucrats.” The memo called for federal government agencies to abandon any use of “racial quotas and preferences” and refrain from collecting data “regarding the composition of the agency’s workforce based on race, sex, color, religion or national origin.” A federal resources official believes the new guidelines will be a source of stress for both applicants and hiring managers. The official, interviewed on condition of anonymity, told the Government Executive website, “Everything in it will make it more difficult to hire, not less. How the f— do you define if someone is patriotic?”)
