CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Maine East High School officials defend inclusivity banners after local Republican leader, citizens object to content – JENNIFER JOHNSON

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Shortly after the newest banner appeared at Maine East, Maine Township Republican Committeewoman Char Foss-Eggemann, of Park Ridge, posted a message on the Republicans of Maine Township Facebook page, writing that it is “a breach of the public trust to use taxpayer-funded government property to post political messages.” She encouraged followers of the pages to email District 207 Supt. Ken Wallace to inquire about the banner, which she referred to as a “BLM banner,” the abbreviation standing for “Black lives matter.” The message was also shared by the Republican Women of Park Ridge Facebook page, an organization of which Foss-Eggemann is also a leader. In an email to Pioneer Press, Foss-Eggemann said the Maine East banners contain “political messaging” and the name of “a specific political organization,” Black Lives Matter. “There should be zero debate on this because it is self-evident,” Foss-Eggemann said. “Political messages do not belong on any government building, period.” In an email to Wallace, which Foss-Eggemann also shared, she suggested the district could achieve “an environment of equality, inclusion and kindness” by using “apolitical banners which avoid politically-charged slogans or words routinely and/or commercially associated with various political group(s).”)

https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-world/ct-nw-trump-military-war-dead-20200904-ugf32yyz65f4na6e6265q6yl4y-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: On a call with reporters hosted by the Biden campaign Friday, Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth lambasted Trump for “belittling the sacrifices of those who have shown more bravery than he’s capable of.” Duckworth, a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel who lost both of her legs in the Iraq War, has been a prominent critic of Trump’s handling of military issues. Knocking Trump for allegedly inventing an injury to avoid serving in the Vietnam War, Duckworth said that she’d “take my wheelchair and my titanium legs over Donald Trump’s supposed bone spurs any day.” Khizr Khan, the Gold Star father who drew national attention after criticizing Trump during the 2016 Democratic National Convention, joined Duckworth on the call and said that Trump’s “life is a testament to selfishness.”)
