Under the new law, Illinoisans are now at risk, under the law, for writing or sharing in any manner…..even truthful, simple facts. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Although the Supreme Court ruled in June against race-based college admissions, that hardly put an end to the vigorous debate about the role that educational institutions should play in promoting social and economic mobility. On the heels of that decision, three prominent economists—Harvard University’s Raj Chetty and David J. Deming, and Brown University’s John N. Friedman—weighed in with a study that examined the determinants and consequences of admission to highly selective colleges, the eight Ivy League colleges plus the University of Chicago, Duke University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University. While less than 1% of Americans attend these schools, their graduates account disproportionately for the nation’s wealthiest citizens, scholars, and leaders, including a quarter of U.S. Senators, half of all Rhodes scholars, and three-fourths of the Supreme Court justices appointed in the past 50 years. Ivy and Ivy-plus graduates are also three times more likely to work for the nation’s most illustrious employers, Chetty, et al. found. Recently, the origins of U.S. Hispanics have begun to shift as patterns of immigration from Latin America change. Notably, the number of Mexican immigrants living in the U.S. has fallen as the number of immigrants who identify as Dominican, Venezuelan, Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadoran or with another Hispanic origin has grown. . . Eight Hispanic origin groups had at least 1 million people living in the U.S. in 2021. The five largest Hispanic populations in the U.S. by origin group were Mexicans (37.2 million), Puerto Ricans (5.8), Salvadorans (2.5), Dominicans (2.4) and Cubans (2.4).
