BURR RIDGE PATCH
— Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso, an attorney, has announced he would run as a Republican for chairman of the DuPage County Board. Republican candidates increasingly lose elections in DuPage County because Democrats increasingly move into DuPage County to take advantage of the prosperity and safety that Republicans created there.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The current chairman is Democrat Deb Conroy, who is in her first term. He served on the county board from 2012 to 2018. He has been mayor twice – 2005 to 2012 and since 2019. Historically, Republicans have controlled DuPage’s government. However, that has changed in recent years as Democrats have become more popular in suburbs across the country. In his statement, Grasso described himself as “socially moderate.” But Grasso may have trouble attracting the party’s MAGA wing. In 2022, Grasso lost the Republican race for Congress to MAGA enthusiast Keith Pekau, then Orland Park’s mayor, who went on to lose to Democratic incumbent Sean Casten. In his announcement, Grasso said Burr Ridge was the first to receive busloads of migrants from Chicago without notice or information about them. He said Burr Ridge welcomed the migrants while assuring the community that all were respecting the law. He said he would protect law-abiding, taxpaying immigrants who want to become citizens. But he said he would never offer sanctuary to undocumented immigrants who commit violent or serious crimes. Grasso also promoted his handling of the pandemic. He said he worked with the Village Board to provide stipends to small businesses to pay rents and salaries. He also said he found money to erect tents for restaurants rather than follow an “ill-advised” order to close them. Grasso said he was proud that Burr Ridge did not close or lose one business to COVID. “This is one of several reasons why the Village of Burr Ridge is debt-free today,” the mayor said. In his statement, Grasso noted he was chairman of the county’s 911 board. In that post, he said he led the consolidation of the county’s 21 call centers to two. He announced his Republican candidacy on his Facebook page titled, “Gary Grasso – Mayor of Burr Ridge” and labeled “Public & Government Service.” The Democratic and Republican primaries are March 17.)

In 1993, when I was 45 years old, they “offered” those like me who had 25 or more years of federal service a $25,000 buyout if we retired early. They succeeded in forcing me to retire 4 years later just before their “offer” expired. I would not have been eligible for regular retirement for another 6 years. Beyond the tremendous negative financial impact of being forced to retire early, it gives your critics/opponents something very big to use against you. My Democrat superiors in the federal government were always proud to report that they paid their Democrat employees more than they paid their Republican employees including me. They especially paid my Democrat coworkers more who were minority, female, veteran, and/or younger. They were especially proud to report that they forced me to take a $23,472/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO when I was 31 years old in 1997. If I had been a Democrat, minority, female, veteran, and/or younger, they would transferred me in as a GS-13, currently $117.807/year. Because I am a Republican, they did not assign me to audits of IRS and promote me to GS-13 until I was 38 years old in 1986. It is called political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination. GAO audits IRS. I had worked IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 Levels, currently $99,069-$112,280/year. I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976. I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul. All my coworkers who my Democrat IRS and GAO superiors promoted over me were Democrats a) who were minority, female, veteran, and/or younger and/or b) had less work experience than I had, had less education than I had, had no professional certifications or fewer than I had, and/or had no professional license like the one I had.
