In retaliation against me, a) they immediately threw me off audits of IRS and made it clear that they would never assign me to audits of IRS again, b) gave me a very bad job assignment, c) gave me very unfair performance expectations, d) gave me a very unfair performance appraisal, e) ranked me at the bottom of my coworkers for pay-for-performance and then always in the bottom half after that, and f) forced me to retire when I was 49 years old in 1997. They would have taken more/bigger adverse actions against me a) if my Congressman Henry Hyde had not come to my defense, b) if I had not become a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1990, a Certified Government Financial Manager in 1994, a Certified Financial Services Auditor in 1996, and a Forensic Accountant in 1997, and c) if I had not earned a master’s degree in financial markets and trading from IIT in 1997. GAO was not unionized. The only federal employees who get Civil Service protections are those who are Democrats and minority, female, veteran, disabled, non-Protestant, non-German American, and/or have ancestors who have not been in America for a long time.
