— Historic Wheaton home may come down and property redeveloped – Bob Goldsborough  (DIERSEN: From what I see, interest in preserving Wheaton’s Protestant, conservative, and Republican past diminishes as more and more and more people who are vehemently anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, and/or anti-Republican hypocritically move into and stay in Wheaton to take advantage of the safety and prosperity that Protestant, conservative, and Republican values have brought forth.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/wheaton/news/ct-wheaton-development-0906-20160906-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Wheaton’s nonprofit Center for History is venturing closer to parting with its final property, the historic Colvin house at 606 N. Main St., which a developer is proposing to tear down and replace with two single-family homes. The history group has been beset by financial issues since 2009, ever since Wheaton’s City Council decided to stop subsidizing the center. At that time, the city’s $225,000-a-year contribution accounted for 61 percent of the group’s $366,500 in financial income. Since 2009, the center has gradually wound down its operations, owing to a lack of funding, said the center’s CEO, Alberta Adamson. The group in 2010 collected $785,000 by selling a 1.45-acre parcel at 1746 Naperville Road on which the center at one time had envisioned building a museum. And in 2014, after it was unable to pay its bills, the center was evicted from the 6,000-square-foot space that it had been leasing above a onetime firehouse in downtown Wheaton. For the Center for History, that has left only the Victorian-style Colvin house, a white frame house built in the 1880s that is named for one of its first owners, John Colvin, who opened the Colvin Dry Goods and Notions Store in 1869 in Wheaton. The center bought the house, which sits on a spacious corner lot, in 1984 for $110,000 and later paid off its mortgage. In recent years, however, the center has deferred maintenance on the Colvin house, which has deteriorated. The center also took out two mortgages against the house in 2015 to free up funds to pay a $50,000-plus legal settlement related to its eviction. In 2014, the center first placed the Colvin house up for sale. Now, developer Roger Lautz is proposing to subdivide the 0.45-acre property into two lots, which given the Colvin house’s orientation on the property would all but guarantee its demolition.)

ILLINOIS REVIEW
— CHINESE BREAK GROUND ON NEW 95-STORY WANDA VISTA TOWER FEATURING $9M CONDOS  (DIERSEN: What condos have you bought in downtown Chicago?  I bought a studio condo in the Outer Drive East building in 1974 when I was 25 years old and then a one bedroom condo in that building in 1976 when I was 27 years old.  My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always used the aforesaid to demonize me, to denigrate me, and to condemn me as being undeservedly filthy rich.  They stress that if I had not avoided the draft like Trump, I never would have been able to buy any condos in downtown Chicago.)
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinoisreview/2016/09/chinese-break-ground-on-new-95-story-wanda-vista-tower-featuring-9m-condos.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Having a hard time figuring out how you’re going to pay your latest hike in health care insurance or property taxes? Well, you’ve little in common with the folks that will be living at the new Wanda Vista Tower – “the largest-ever real estate investment by a Chinese company in Chicago.” Chicago’s new skyline addition will be the third tallest, not quite as big as the Trump Tower – the one with the owner’s name Donald “TRUMP” displayed boldly on its front. It’s not for certain whether the name of Wanda Vista Tower’s owner – China’s richest man “Wang Jianlin” – will also appear on his new skyscraper. Mayor Rahm Emanuel is scheduled to participate in the 96-story building’s ground breaking at 375 East Wacker Drive Wednesday. The tower will include 406 condominium homes, 205 hotel rooms and 346 parking places. Luxurious four bedroom condos start at $9M and one bedroom condos start at $1M. The building plans to include a 5,400 square foot ballroom, as well as a full-service spa, a bar and two full-service restaurants. The building plans also include wine storage and a tasting room, a private dining area, demonstration kitchen and a full screening and media room. On the 46th floor, health devotees will find Club Vista, with a fully-equipped fitness center and swimming pool.)

— Trump’s ‘Softening’ Can’t Make His Immigration Stance Popular – Jacob Sullum  (DIERSEN: When push comes to shove, many, if not most, if not virtually everyone surrenders to Mexico and to its citizens.  Virtually no one can take being called a racist.  Soon, to get an education, to get a job, and to get anything else in America, you will have to speak, read, and write Spanish.)

— Trump Calls for More High-Skill Immigration – Michael Barone  (DIERSEN: Democrats run America.  Because of that, the more of the following that you are, THE LESS LIKELY THAT YOU WILL SUCCEED IN AMERICA: Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, gun owner, and/or if your ancestors have been in America for a long time.)
http://townhall.com/columnists/michaelbarone/2016/09/07/trump-calls-for-more-highskill-immigration-n2214915
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Then he proposes a major policy change: “to select immigrants based on their likelihood of success in U.S. society, and their ability to be financially self-sufficient … to choose immigrants based on merit, skill and proficiency.”  That’s not racism or hate speech, and it’s not out of line with American tradition. Emma Lazarus’ oft-quoted poem commends America for welcoming “your tired, your poor, your huddled masses” and “the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.” But during the great wave of immigration from eastern and southern Europe from 1892 to 1914, the Ellis Island inspectors, in line with national policy, excluded those deemed incapable of supporting themselves as well as those with communicable diseases.)

http://abc7chicago.com/society/rauner-joins-naperville-labor-day-parade/1499027/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner joined the Labor Day parade in Naperville on Monday along with dozens of groups from the town. Parade participants included Naperville bands, dance crews, veterans’ organizations and first responders riding on fire trucks with their families. Gov. Rauner also took part in the parade festivities. Some might call that a contradiction because the governor is trying to weaken unions and the labor movement in Illinois. When questioned about that criticism, Rauner responded: “What I’m all about is growing the Illinois economy, making sure we are very competitive, more jobs and that we’ve got high family incomes. We do that through strong economic growth. That’s everything we are pushing for.” The parade took a one mile route from Naperville North to Naperville Central High School.)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Rauner, long at odds with unions, goes parading on Labor Day – Stefano Esposito
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/rauner-long-at-odds-with-unions-goes-parading-on-labor-day/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Even though union leaders have branded him the anti-organized labor governor, Bruce Rauner confidently stepped onto the streets of downtown Naperville Monday for the huge suburb’s Labor Day parade. For the most part, the Republican governor was well-received as he jogged along the parade route kicking off what traditionally has been the start of the fall campaign season, which could be among the most expensive in Illinois history. The governor has promised to go “toe-to-toe” to oust Democrats during the November elections. Democrats — led by Rauner’s nemesis, Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan — have supermajorities in both the House and Senate, stifling the governor in his bid to enact his so-called turnaround agenda. Rauner so far has contributed about $10 million from his campaign fund to help the Republican cause in November. Asked by reporters before the parade about his battles with Democrats and Democratic-leaning labor leaders, Rauner turned the issue to the economy. “What I’m all about is growing the Illinois economy, making sure we’re very competitive, that we’ve got lots of jobs and that we’ve got higher family incomes,” Rauner told reporters. “We do that through strong economic growth, and that’s everything we’re pushing for.” Rauner took to the streets of Naperville with his wife, first lady Diana Rauner. “Thanks for trying to clean up the mess,” called out Dan Krush, 56, of Naperville, as Rauner passed. “You guys are doing a great job. Stay strong. Someone has to save us from the Madigan madness,” said Mary Derwinski, also of Naperville. And so it went for most of the parade route. There was the occasional dissenting voice, though. “Save our pension, Bruce!” shouted Jim Geovanes, 42, a teacher at Oak Park and River Forest High School, who said he’s not a Rauner fan and thinks teachers are being overlooked in the Springfield budget squabbles. “I have no political lines,” Geovanes said. “I just want what’s due to us and owed to us, and want the state to fund that pension to make sure teachers get what they deserve.”)

http://peoriapublicradio.org/post/governor-rauner-joins-labor-day-parade#stream/0
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Illinois governor Bruce Rauner joined a Labor Day parade today in friendly territory, west-suburban Naperville.  Rauner is not seen as a friend of organized labor.  But he got cheers at this heavily Republican parade, marching amidst the high school bands and dance teams. “Enjoy Labor Day! Happy parade!” Jim Caffray, a home remodeler from Oswego, says he likes that the governor is fighting the democratic machine.  There’s no unions in this Labor Day parade. “I think that’s great, actually. Because I think the unions have been destroying this country for 50 years now.” There were still union supporters in the crowd. A Batavia public school teacher greeted Rauner like this: “Go UNIONS! IEA, NEA! Support the teachers—they’re our future!”  Rauner remains locked in a prolonged fight with the state workers’ union.)

DAILY HERALD
— LESTER: Money drop  The Republican State Senate Campaign Committee dropped $60,000 into Gurnee Republican Mike Amrozowicz’ war chest last week. Amrozowicz is challenging Democratic state Sen. Melinda Bush of Grayslake in what is expected to be one of the most targeted races in the suburbs Nov. 8.

— LESTER: Fighting words  “Who’s this Tim Schneider?” Democratic former Gov. Pat Quinn quipped last week after Schneider criticized Quinn for having hired downstate independent congressional candidate David Gill for a state job in 2013. Schneider, of Bartlett, fired back: “Pat Quinn may not know who I am now, because he is trying hard to forget everything about his failed record as governor. As chairman of the Illinois Republican Party in 2014, I helped shed light on Quinn’s record of mismanagement, scandal and corruption, and I won’t let him rewrite history now.”

— LESTER: College lists  Wheaton College was highlighted this week by Campus Pride, a nonprofit that listed the Christian college among 102 campuses it says are unfriendly to gay, lesbian and bisexual students. The Princeton Review has included the college on a similar list, along with ranking it high in religious students and low in alcohol and drug use on campus. “Wheaton strives to treat all people with respect,” college spokeswoman LaTonya Taylor said in a statement. Students and staff affirm a Community Covenant that Taylor describes as a “voluntary social compact” expressing “the commitments and values consistent with the community’s shared Christian faith.” The college, she says, is committed to chastity among the unmarried and the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman. “Some perceive our commitment to this Christian sexual ethic as unfriendly toward the LGBTQ community. Our aim is to stand respectfully and graciously for God’s truth.”

CHICAGO ARGUS
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Anti-Republicans say “Labor Day is what we make of it.”
http://chicagoargus.blogspot.com/2016/09/labor-day-is-what-we-make-of-it.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Take west suburban Naperville, where the parade to be held Monday morning is officially billed as the “Last Fling,” as though the day’s purpose is to have one last celebration before summer comes to an end. The day is officially being sponsored in that community by a Kia auto dealership and is honoring the local park district as its grand marshal, although among its participants will be Gov. Bruce Rauner – not exactly the kind of politico with any interest in building up a favorable impression among organized labor interests. The atmosphere in Naperville is likely to be different than what will take place in Calumet City – which usually has an end-of-summer parade that gives a bit of tribute to organized labor. IT’S NOT THE kind of place that Rauner would choose to be in – likely because he knows the locals would boo and heckle him mercilessly if he were to show his face. Which is probably why Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti will be the official state participant in that parade – I suspect her presence will be undetected because most of the locals won’t have a clue who she is or what she looks like!)

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— ALL OF THE FRONT PAGE: Their property-tax bills? Zero – Tim Novak
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/the-watchdogs-their-property-tax-bills-zero/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: They are among 4,188 senior citizens across Chicago who didn’t have to pay property taxes on their homes this year, a Chicago Sun-Times analysis of more than 880,000 tax bills and property assessments in the city has found. The tax breaks those seniors got meant higher taxes for everyone else, shifting $9.6 million in property taxes to other homeowners and businesses, most of whom have been socked with soaring tax bills this year caused by a combination of new, higher property values set by Cook County Assessor Joseph Berrios and Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s tax hike to fund pensions for police and firefighters. Another 1,692 seniors living in the Cook County suburbs also received tax bills showing they owed no taxes on their homes this year, the Sun-Times found. It’s difficult to determine how much those breaks cost others in those suburbs since tax rates vary by community and school district. All of these seniors are benefiting from a program called the senior citizen assessment freeze, which the state of Illinois created two decades ago as a lifeline for older people who feared they’d be forced out of their homes when their neighborhoods became hot and real estate taxes skyrocketed. Under the program, the longer seniors stay in their homes, the more they can save on their property taxes, often ending up paying nothing at all.)

DAILY HERALD
— Labor Day’s become a day off rather than a holiday – Editorial  (DIERSEN: What is your connection with unions?  Virtually all my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes are vehemently anti-union, if not union haters. They stress that I was a union member for almost 12 years, that unions helped me win grievances against the Post Office and IRS, that I might still be a GAO employee if GAO had been unionized in 1997, and that I have only bought cars that were built by union members.)
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20160903/discuss/160909619/
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Labor Day was born, in large measure, as so many things seem to be in the United States, as a political favor granted to a special interest group. The national holiday was approved unanimously by Congress in 1894 and signed into law by President Grover Cleveland at least in part to reach out to trade unions following the bitter and bloody Pullman Strike of that year. Did the politicians of that time feel a genuine allegiance to unions? Many did, so we don’t want to get too cynical here. And the holiday without question was a sincere tribute by a large number to the achievements the labor movement had made on behalf of the worker. But there was a benefit for politicians who backed it — support from unions that were growing in strength. And a benefit for the unions — annual promotional branding in parades and celebrations across America. The holiday’s roots in the organized labor movement actually extended back a dozen years earlier when a more parochial version of it was celebrated in New York at the behest of the Central Labor Union. Is it still viewed largely as a tribute to union workers and the benefits generated by the American labor movement? Well, it no doubt is if you live in a union household. But the holiday has evolved to have a generalized meaning that is considerably more vague.)

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/04/opinion/sunday/a-bold-attempt-to-redefine-dissidence-in-cuba.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: “Dissident” is a loaded word in Cuba, a label used to discredit and punish. Those who have embraced the term can be shut out of public jobs and are often subjected to arbitrary detentions and beatings. This year, with expectations reset by the normalization of relations between Cuba and the United States, Luis Manuel Otero and Yanelis Nuñez Leyva, a couple in Havana, figured it was time to redefine what it means to be a dissident. They created the Museum of Dissidence in Cuba, a website that chronicles the long line of people who have stood in opposition to the government throughout history. Among the dissidents they feature are President Raúl Castro and his brother, Fidel, who took power through an armed revolt, along with prominent leaders of modern opposition groups, who have been suppressed by the Cuban government. The project carries an implicit message: The current ruling class, which seems so rigidly entrenched, will most likely be replaced one day.)

BUSINESS 2 COMMUNITY
— The Marketing Tool That Will Help You Build The Best Teams – AJ Brustein  (DIERSEN: Democrats run the federal government.  If you want to “fit in” the “culture” as a federal employee, you need to be anti-Protestant, anti-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, anti-White, anti-male, anti-older people, anti-rich people, anti-gun owners, and/or anti-those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time.  Of course, needless-to-say, I never “fit in” the federal employee “culture.”)
http://www.business2community.com/human-resources/marketing-tool-will-help-build-best-teams-01646841#mL7bml2eAlYyXdTU.97
(FROM THE ARTICLE: I want to ensure that every new teammate we have – on the field or in the office – is going to be a great fit and contribute to our success. The process of screening candidates is straightforward but sprinkled with pitfalls from illegal questions to picking the wrong conference room. But let’s take a step back and start with a quote from one of the world’s biggest recruiting firms, Robert Half. “No one can know for sure how someone will perform as an employee.” As obvious as that sounds, it is full of wisdom. Screening is more of an art than a science. The manager who best uses processes and data in their screening has a decidedly better shot at a successful outcome than the ‘play it by gut feel’ manager, but there are definitely no certainties in recruiting. That’s why most headhunters offer a 30-day guarantee. . .When hiring for an individual contributor, for example, having someone in the upper left-hand quadrant probably isn’t your aim. It will also depend on your company culture, the goals of the position, and the function for which you are hiring. An Outlaw, for example, would be a much better fit in Market Operations at Uber than in HR at Walmart. You can similarly map out managers, leaders, and even hire specific archetypes to build the culture in your organization. To help ground the Archetype map, please see the Pop Culture Cheat Sheet from Emily Bennett below.)

— Rauner fires 29 from patronage scandal under predecessors – AP (DIERSEN: Just like Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar, my Democrat superiors in the federal government rejected the Rutan decision.  My Democrat superiors in the federal government did not want to hire, to retain, or to promote Republicans, and especially Republicans like me who were conservative, White, male, and non-veteran. GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job.  IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.  The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.)
http://www.fox32chicago.com/news/local/199081035-story
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The state’s inspector general found in 2014 that the politically connected hires should have been put into their positions based on merit. The high court ruling, known as “Rutan,” allows consideration of political loyalty in filling sensitive, policymaking positions or those involving confidential information or which require public statements. The inspector general’s investigation determined that IDOT often filled the jobs with politically connected candidates to perform tasks related to those functions, but they ended up doing routine jobs, such as answering phones and mowing lawns, and therefore the posts should have been open to anyone.)

BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH
— Rodriguez criticizes opening of LaHood’s new office – Kevin Barlow  (DIERSEN: What do your critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes criticize you for doing?  What do you say to my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who increasingly discourage Republicans from supporting Wheaton’s Independence Day parades?)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Democratic candidate for the 18th Congressional District blasted his Republican opponent Tuesday morning for using taxpayer money to promote his campaign. Junius Rodriguez said Republican U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood of from Dunlap committed “abuses of power” allowed by incumbency by opening a new office in Bloomington and sending a taxpayer-funded promotional mailer a few months before the election. He promised to introduce bills in Congress to eliminate both practices in the run-up to an election. While LaHood’s staff defended his opening of an office at 3004 General Electric Road in Bloomington on Monday as a way to improve constituent service, Rodriguez called it an example of LaHood using taxpayer money to promote his re-election campaign. “When a politician makes this type of decision just 10 weeks before a contested election, it is hard to view it as anything more than a crass political ploy to score points using the taxpayer’s dime,” he said Tuesday at a news conference at the McLean County Democratic headquarters in Bloomington.)

FEDERAL NEWS RADIO
— Surprise! People still hate the federal government – Mike Causey  (Of course, needless-to-say, because of that hatred, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes always remind everyone that a) I was a federal employee for almost 30 years and b) I have been a federal retiree for almost 19 years. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have not and will not seek a job with the federal government a) because the pay and benefits are terrible, b) because the advancement opportunities are terrible, c) because they lack required education, work experience, professional certifications, and/or professional licenses, d) because they cannot pass an employment examination, e) because they cannot pass a background investigation, f) because they cannot pass a physical examination, g) because they cannot take the demonization, denigration, and condemnation that comes with being a federal employee or federal retiree, and/or h) because they are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran and they know that the federal government discriminates against its employees who are Republican, White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you are just back — whether from an exotic vacation or an economical stay at home — welcome. You haven’t missed much. It won’t take long to bring you up to speed. So here it goes: Congress, which was gone when you left, is still away on one of its many extended 2016 breaks. Appropriations bills (again) have not been passed, so we will have the whole CR (continuing resolution) thing to deal with to avoid a government shutdown just before the election. Despite its dismal track record, experts predict that 90 percent of all incumbents — House, Senate, Democrats or Republicans — will be reelected, as per usual. If you are a white collar fed, a 1.6 percent pay raise is still on track. Congress could raise or lower it, but they probably won’t. With two months to go in the cost-of-living adjustment countdown, federal-military-Social Security retirees are looking at a very, very small COLA in January. The exact amount won’t be announced until mid-October. As of today, it stands at 0.23 percent. No new word on buyouts or early retirement offers. After four years in the works, the phased retirement program is up and running, in some places. So far, fewer than 100 feds have applied for the part-time mentoring program. Many workers say it’s not from lack of interest, but that their agencies aren’t offering it. Something else, what was it? Oh yes, the American public still hates you. Or at least has the most negative feelings toward the government of any other organization or profession. You rank even lower than lawyers and the media.)
