ALTON TELEGRAPH
— County board trims 34 precincts. State-required change will save election costs. – Scott Cousins
(COMMENT: I only learned of precinct consolidation in Illinois this morning. I erroneously relied on the following to advise me of such things: the DuPage County Election Division (DCED), my representative on the Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee, the leaders of the DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and the leaders of the Milton Township Republican Organization. I understand that at its January 11, 2022 meeting, the DuPage County Board will vote to consolidate DuPage County’s 930 precincts into just 607, a loss of 323 precincts. That includes consolidating Milton Township’s 130 precincts into just 83, a loss of 47 precincts. I have asked DCED to email me the new map for Milton Township and the map for the new precinct that I am in. I should write a book about the 2015 Gerrymandering of my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton.)
https://www.thetelegraph.com/news/article/Board-reduces-precincts-in-response-to-new-state-16729105.php
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Madison County Board has approved a new precinct map that reduces the number of precincts to 191 from the current 225. The board took the action after new state laws were signed in mid-November by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. The changes were approved at a special Madison County Board meeting Thursday night. The new map was approved unanimously 21-0, with seven members absent, two participating remotely and one open seat. The changes are the last to be completed as part of the decennial census. In November the board approved a new Madison County Board district map cutting the board size by three to 26 members. “Reducing the total number of election precincts by consolidating 225 into 191 will save taxpayers 15 percent on every election held in Madison County,” said Madison County Board Member Chris Guy, R-Maryville, who chairs the Government Relations Committee. “Not only will a reduction result in cost-savings to the taxpayers, a reduction will also bring more efficiency and integrity to the election process.” The new law requires precincts to be “as near as may be practicable, 1,200 registered voters,” according to information provided by Guy. Prior to that the number was 500 registered voters per precinct. The new state law also requires precinct maps to be approved by Jan. 14, the day after candidates are allowed to begin collecting signatures to get on the 2022 ballot. The full county board took the precinct action after a special meeting by the Government Relations Committee, which approved the new precinct maps.)
