I should have majored in accounting at UIC 1966-1968 and NIU 1969-1970. I did not start taking graduate accounting courses at DePaul until 1976. I did not take and pass the CPA examination on my first attempt until 1979. I did not earn a master’s degree in accounting until 1980. I did not take and pass the Certified Internal Auditor examination on my first attempt until 1981. I did not become a licensed CAP until 1981. But by then, the accounting profession saw me as being far too old to have a successful career in accounting. On top of that, the accounting profession was under tremendous pressure to hire, retain, and promote young minorities and young women.
