(FROM THE ARTICLE: While some branches of government brag about the marijuana revenues, others warn of the physical and mental-health dangers marijuana consumption poses. “Know the risks of marijuana,” the federal agency warns, including threats to: Brain health. Those who start young “risk permanent IQ loss.” Mental health. Weed use has been linked to a variety of ailments, including depression, anxiety and psychosis. Physical decline. Athletes who use dope encounter problems with “timing, movement and coordination.” The list goes on. Unborn babies can suffer from mothers’ consumption. Marijuana-impaired drivers pose risks to public safety. Here’s the killer. “Research shows that people who use marijuana are more likely to have relationship problems, worse educational outcomes, lower career achievement and reduced life satisfaction,” SAMHSA states. Despite warnings of that nature, many people remain blissfully unaware of the dangers. Illinois’ elected officials knew, but they were so focused on the revenue gain they didn’t care. People should remember the downside next time a marijuana sales report is revealed. That new revenue doesn’t come cheap.)

My Democrat IRS superiors used my opposition to AA to take many adverse actions against me included a) never promoting me beyond GS-12, b) disallowing my education deductions in 1978, and c) disallowing my travel vouchers in 1974. My Democrat Post Office superiors used my opposition to AA to take many adverse actions against me included a) forcing me to resign in 1969 and b) disallowing my sick leave requests in 1969 and 1968. (FROM THE ARTICLE: But recently, the EEOC and DOJ have advocated a broader, textualist reading of what constitutes “adverse action” in the workplace under Title VII — and some federal appellate courts have begun to agree. This issue will be before the Supreme Court next term if it agrees to hear Muldrow v. St. Louis and Davis v. Legal Services Alabama, Inc. A more expansive view could have serious implications for certain diversity programs. The EEOC and DOJ’s existing position is that Title VII bars discrimination in all actions affecting “terms, conditions, or privileges of employment” — including actions falling short of hiring, firing, or promotion. This expansive reading of Title VII could implicate a host of increasingly popular race-conscious corporate initiatives: from providing race-restricted access to mentoring, sponsorship, or training programs; to selecting interviewees partially due to diverse candidate slate policies; to tying executive or employee compensation to the company achieving certain demographic targets; to offering race-restricted diversity internship programs or accelerated interview processes, sometimes paired with euphemistic diversity “scholarships” that effectively provide more compensation for “diverse” summer interns. Between today’s wake-up call on affirmative action restrictions, and what may be coming down the pike from the Court next term on the scope of adverse actions covered by Title VII, there’s never been a better time for companies to take a hard look at their diversity programs.)

— Why you should closely check the odometer on that used car you’re thinking of buying – Niccole Caan (COMMENT: Recently, I traded in my 2016 Ford Mustang in for a new loaded 2023 Ford Mustang GT Premium. Both CarMax and the Ford dealer valued my 2016 Ford Mustang at only $21,000 notwithstanding the fact that it had only 300 miles on it, it had always been garaged, it had never been driven in the rain, and I had always stored it on jacks November-April. Both CarMax and the dealer hinted/implied that the car’s extremely low mileage was a negative. They hinted/implied that potential buyers of the car would strongly suspect odometer fraud. I know a lot about odometer fraud. SEE: Diersen v. Chicago Car Exchange at https://caselaw.findlaw.com/court/us-7th-circuit/1385001.html Further, according to Car & Driver, my 2005 Corvette is worth only $6,505–$9,360 trade-in notwithstanding the fact that it has only 970 miles on it, it has always been garaged, it has never been driven in the rain, and I have always stored it on jacks November-April. A 2005 Corvette with 5,323 miles on it is offered for sale by Diamond Motorworks in Lisle for $34,800.)
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Texas ranks second in the nation when it comes to the number of vehicles on the road with rolled-back odometers. San Antonio ranks better at 19th in the U.S., but do not take chances because it will cost down the road. “So many people don’t know that digital odometers can be rolled back,” said Emilie Voss of CARFAX. “We think back to ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and that analog odometer getting taken out and manually rolled back. Unfortunately, the digital odometer is, in most cases, easier to manipulate.” Rolling back an odometer is easy to do and difficult for buyers to spot. “There’s nothing mechanically that can be seen, no trace left where you can tell the odometer has been rolled back,” said Voss. It will cost you. You will pay more for the car and more for repairs when there is a rolled back odometer. “This can cost you thousands of dollars, not only upfront in the purchase price but cost you thousands of dollars and a lot of headache and heartache during ownership,” Voss said. “The maintenance schedule on a vehicle that has 150,000 miles is very different from one that has 50,000. If you don’t know that true odometer reading, it can cause you a lot of problems, not to mention a safety issue.” . . . The mileage adjustment added $3,000 of value to the car. To spot odometer fraud, make sure you get a vehicle history report like a CARFAX before you buy. “There are all these mileage readings on a CARFAX report for vehicles,” Voss said. “You look at the last reading and see what it is and then see what’s on the dashboard right now. If there’s a discrepancy, if it’s lower than what was on the last reading, that should be a red flag to walk away.” CARFAX also flags any cars that have inconsistent mileage. Ingle said odometer rollback devices are fairly easy to get and fairly inexpensive, yet there are legitimate reasons a body shop would have the tool, such as repairing broken odometers. Next, get an independent mechanic to inspect the car. “A trained mechanic can see wear and tear,” Voss said. “They can see things you and I might not see.” An inspection will cost about $100, but it can save you thousands in repairs. . .It is important to know exactly what you are buying so you can make an informed decision before purchasing. Also, take time to test drive any vehicle before you buy it.)
