(FROM THE ARTICLE: A decorated Lake County sheriff’s deputy is suing his boss and the county’s top lawyer in federal court, alleging he was demoted for backing a candidate they opposed in last year’s election. Deputy Ari Briskman, a former sergeant, wants a return to his previous rank, as well as back pay and punitive damages from the lawsuit against Sheriff John Idleburg and State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart. Filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Chicago, the suit alleges Briskman was demoted the day after the Nov. 5 election, because he supported Republican Mary Cole for state’s attorney. Cole was hoping to unseat Rinehart, a fellow Democrat and political ally of the sheriff. Briskman also lost his special assignments, including as head of the sheriff’s Marine Unit that patrols area waterways, the suit states. His attorney, Keith L. Hunt, noted that the demotion meant not only a loss of rank, but a loss of substantial income. “To punish a man’s family simply because he didn’t support your buddy’s candidacy is wrong on every level,” Hunt told us. “It’s petty, it’s vindictive and it’s unconstitutional.” Idleburg and Rinehart gave us statements in response to the lawsuit. “The plaintiff, a current employee, has exercised his right to file a lawsuit,” Idleburg said. “We are confident in our actions and will respond through the proper legal channels.” “While we are unable to comment on this pending litigation, we look forward to fully prevailing in court,” said Rinehart.)

They have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I had to work my way through college because my GPA was not high enough to get student loans let alone scholarships. I had only just barely made it into the upper 20% of my high school class. My ACT score was only 24. In my defense, my GPA was lower because of instead of studying, I had worked far too many hours during my junior and seniors washing dishes to earn money for UIC expenses and to buy a new car to get to/from UIC classes and my parents’ home in Crete.

— Oconomowoc Rotary reverses course after planning nonpolitical July 4 parade. My critics/opponents have always vehemently opposed Republican participation in Wheaton’s Independence Day parades. I should write about them. They have always had lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois. I would focus on those who have had their operatives and their dupes take the most/biggest adverse actions against me lately.
https://www.jsonline.com/story/communities/west/2025/06/11/oconomowoc-rotary-reverses-course-nonpolitical-july-4-parade/84148448007/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: After intending to make this year’s Fourth of July parade a nonpolitical event, the Rotary Club of Oconomowoc reversed course after a local Republican state representative expressed outrage. The Rotary initially planned to have a parade without partisan messaging, with an opportunity for politicians to meet with constituents after the parade. In a June 11 statement, the Board of Directors clarified that all political parties and representatives may fully participate in the July 4 parade, “as has been our longstanding tradition.” In the original plan, politicians were encouraged to participate in three ways, the board said: Walking with the city’s official float, joining a community organization they’re involved in or creating a nonpolitical float with friends and family. The club also said politicians were welcome to gather at the Village Green after the parade for a “special moment of unity” featuring the University of Wisconsin Marching Band, which is still scheduled to occur. “Unfortunately, our intentions were widely misunderstood, and the proposed approach caused considerable frustration and concern within the community. We deeply regret that our message was not clear and led to any confusion or disappointment,” the statement read. The debate began June 9 when the club announced it planned to host a nonpolitical event, in part because the city is marking its 150th anniversary. A signup page for participants notes the parade isn’t hosting political acts this year, “but we look forward to inviting them for the 2026 parade.” “Our aim remains to create a universally enjoyable atmosphere where Oconomowoc’s legacy and community unity can shine brightly, unimpeded by partisan elements,” the club wrote on Facebook. The policy elicited split responses on Facebook, and the club limited comments after more than 350 responses. Some residents and conservative talk radio hosts decried exclusion of anyone from the parade, while others appreciated the Rotary’s decision and said political divisiveness would detract from the festivities. State Rep. Barbara Dittrich, a Republican who represents Oconomowoc in the state Assembly, called the Rotary’s decision “bewildering” in a June 10 statement and said it deliberately excluded state and federal elected officials. Dittrich argued her family “is a dedicated, ingrained part of Oconomowoc’s rich history, dating back to the 1950’s, a third or more of the 150 years being celebrated within this parade.” “Walking in the Oconomowoc parade is not political; It continues my personal ethos of service, greeting all of the wonderful people I serve, no matter who they are or what their personal beliefs,” Dittrich wrote in part, urging the Rotary to reverse its decision. “We have listened intently to your feedback, and we fully recognize the importance of traditional parade participation to many of our local politicians and constituents alike,” the Rotary said in the new statement. In a June 11 message to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, club president Bonnie Lewis-Tschannen said “what’s been unfolding is beyond reason.” “Perhaps the most absurd claim is that we were somehow targeting or banning only Republicans. That is simply not true, and it’s incredibly disheartening to see the narrative twisted this way,” Lewis-Tschannen wrote. Other communities have moved to limit political participation in parades, including Middleton in 2022 after Republican candidates lodged complaints that only incumbents, who were all Democrats in the area, could participate. And rules against campaigning at Waukesha’s July 4 parade drew conservative scrutiny after former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde was told he couldn’t participate, while a Democratic congressional candidate could. Oconomowoc’s Independence Day Parade begins at 5 p.m. July 4, starting at West Wisconsin Avenue and Concord Road and ending at the Oconomowoc Police Station.)
