(FROM THE ARTICLE: Police are investigating a large disturbance in Glen Ellyn after hundreds of teens swarmed Sunset Pool on Saturday, prompting the park district to shut the facility down early. According to the Glen Ellyn Police Department, officers were called to the pool, located in the 400 block of Fairview Avenue, just before 5 p.m. after reports of a crowd of teens, estimated to be between 200 and 300, began to gather. Police say many teens entered without paying, while some were reportedly smoking cannabis, drinking alcohol, and setting off fireworks. Parents who were at the pool with children told WGN-TV some teens were playing inappropriate music over loud portable speakers. Witnesses told WGN-TV the lines of young people waiting to get in were massive. Some individuals jumped a fence and opened a gate for others. The overwhelming crowd and unruly behavior caused staff to close the pool early. It took several police departments to help evacuate the park, police say. Video provided by bystanders shows the moment a pool manager was pushed into the lap pool. A young man can be seen helping her out of the water while others are seen laughing. John Horist, who had visited the pool earlier in the day, said the situation was out of character for the quiet west suburban community. “Glen Ellyn’s a really quiet town. I’ve been talking to the parents today and some of the kids too and they’re definitely kind of freaked out,” Horist said. A social media post encouraged followers to “bring 31st Beach to the burbs,” telling teens to gather at Centennial Beach in Naperville. Naperville police say officers were at the beach just in case, but no disturbance occurred. It’s unclear whether the incident at Sunset Pool was related to the teen takeover planned in Naperville.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A suburban community pool closed early over the Fourth of July weekend after unruly behavior erupted when a large crowd swarmed the area, police said. At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, Glen Ellyn police were informed of a growing crowd of teenagers and young people, estimated at between 200 and 300 people, at the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Sunset Pool along Fairview Avenue near Main Street. Some of those in attendance were seen entering without paying, smoking cannabis and consuming alcohol in violation of park district ordinances, police said. One person was charged for the illegal use of fireworks. The park district decided to close the pool early that day, because of the illegal behavior of several people in attendance, according to authorities. The incident remained under investigation as of Monday afternoon.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: One person has been charged with the illegal use of fireworks stemming from a large group of young people converging on a Glen Ellyn pool the day after the Fourth of July, authorities said Monday. Police were alerted shortly before 5 p.m. to a growing crowd of teenagers and young adults meeting at the Sunset Pool on Fairview Avenue. Officers estimated there were 200 to 300 people at the property, police said in a news release. Some of the attendees were seen entering without paying, smoking marijuana, consuming alcoholic beverages in violation of the park district’s ordinances, and igniting illegal fireworks. Due to the disruptive and unsafe behavior of several individuals at Sunset Pool — including violations of park district ordinances — the agency made the decision to close the facility early, park district Executive Director Dave Thommes said in a statement. “We worked closely with the Glen Ellyn Police Department and surrounding agencies to ensure the facility was safely cleared. We are grateful to our quick-thinking and professional Sunset Pool staff for how they handled the situation,” Thommes said in the statement. “The safety of our patrons and staff remains our top priority. We’re currently reviewing the incident internally and assessing any operational adjustments as needed,” he added. Officers from several neighboring jurisdictions helped to evacuate the park. The incident remains under investigation, and no other information was immediately available.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A DuPage County Board member from Elmhurst announced Monday that she was running for county treasurer next year. In a news release, Yeena Yoo, a Democrat, said she held a recent campaign kickoff event co-hosted by Democrat Deb Conroy, chairwoman of the County Board, and DuPage County Building Trades. Since 2006, Republican Gwen Henry has held the treasurer’s position. She won with 51 percent in 2022 and ran unopposed in 2018. In recent years, the once reliably Republican county has seen more of its offices move to the Democratic column. This reflects a suburban trend across the country. Yoo was elected to the County Board in 2022. A year earlier, Yoo finished second of four candidates in the Elmhurst City Council’s Ward 6 race, with Emily Bastedo winning. Yoo, a legal aid attorney, said she has advocated for low-income clients, veterans, senior citizens and working families. “DuPage families deserve a Treasurer who will put people over politics,” Yoo said in the news release. “My vision for the office includes innovation and community-centered leadership.” The Democratic and Republican primaries are March 17.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed it has completed sending payments to those who were impacted by the Social Security Fairness Act, five months ahead of schedule. Why It Matters Under the Biden administration, the federal agency, which pays benefits to tens of millions every month, said the process of issuing new and backdated payments could take considerably longer. At the time, the SSA told Newsweek it was “determining the timelines for implementing this new law.” What To Know In January, lawmakers passed a bipartisan bill that repealed two provisions—the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO)—that limited retirement benefits for certain workers, including teachers, firefighters, and police officers, some federal employees, and their spouses. The agency first started issuing these payments in February. The new payments included updated benefits amount and backdated payments to January 2024. Despite previous longer timelines being for implementation, the SSA has now confirmed it has sent out 3.1 million payments to those impacted by the repeal of the WEP and GPO. To date, over $17 billion in payments has been distributed. The WEP reduced Social Security benefits for individuals who received pensions from public-sector jobs—such as state or federal positions—that did not require paying Social Security payroll taxes. This reduction applied even if they also worked in jobs where they paid into Social Security and qualified for benefits. The GPO lowered spousal or survivor benefits for retired federal, state, or local government workers who had not contributed to Social Security through payroll taxes.)

The ruling class in Wheaton, Wheaton Warrenville School District 200, Milton Township, DuPage County, and Illinois despises/hates me. I should write about that. I would focus on why they despise/hate me.

DAILY KOS
— Trump administration slaps high cost on federal workers’ free speech. I did far more than sign a letter of dissent. When I was 40 years old in 1988, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my GAO superiors with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation. GAO audits IRS. They had unofficially thrown me off audits of IRS before I was 40 in 1988 because I had complained about their political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination. They had kept me off audits of IRS 1980-1985. They had forced the GAO manager to retire in 1987 who had hired me in 1980 and who had finally been able to assign me to audits of IRS and to promote me in 1986. They had delayed my promotions, never promoted me beyond GS-13, and forced me to take a $23,472/year (21%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. Democrats do not want Republicans to audit IRS.

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin might be very skilled at Making Coal Great Again, but he’s not so solid on the whole First Amendment thing. The EPA just put 144 people on administrative leave for signing a letter of dissent about the agency’s policies. It follows a March open letter where current and former EPA employees called both President Donald Trump and Zeldin out for their illegal dismantling of the core functions of the agency. However, the March letter was anonymous, and while some of the signatories of the more recent letter chose to remain anonymous, the 144 employees the EPA is now targeting signed the letter with their names and job titles. In placing the workers on leave, the EPA didn’t hide the ball as to why they were being suspended. An agency spokesperson plainly said they were suspended as retaliation for their speech. “The Environmental Protection Agency has a zero-tolerance policy for career bureaucrats unlawfully undermining, sabotaging, and undercutting the administration’s agenda as voted for by the great people of this country last November,” said a spokesperson for the agency. Here’s the thing. Government employees enjoy the protections of the First Amendment, even if the Trump administration doesn’t believe they should. Public employees are protected when speaking out about matters of public concern, which Zeldin’s hijacking of the EPA to, in his words, “drive a dagger through the heart of climate change religion” definitely is. There are a couple of caveats. If public employees are speaking in their official capacity about something that is normally part of their official job duties, then First Amendment protections don’t apply.)
