CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— A writer comes home to ever-changing South Shore to find the middle class disappearing – Christopher Borrelli (DIERSEN: How has your precinct changed over the past 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35+ years? I should write a book on how my DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 in Wheaton has changed since my wife and I had our home built at 915 Cove Court in 1984. From what I see, tragically, 4 out 5 times that a home is sold, it goes from conservative Republican to liberal Democrat. Ever-increasingly, liberal Democrats see DuPage County, Milton Township, and Wheaton a) as moving to the left and b) being welcoming safe places for them. Ever-increasingly, they see DuPage County, Milton Township, and Wheaton leaders failing/refusing to defend/advance the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, illegal drugs, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks in the Illinois Republican Party (IRP) platform and in the Republican Party platform. In my precinct, they see how the IRP, DuPage County Republican Central Committee, and Milton Township Republican Central Committee treat conservative Republicans like me.)

— FRONT PAGE: Flooding in the Chicago area has been so bad in the past decade that only places ravaged by hurricanes sustain more damage – Michael Hawthorne and Morgan Greene (DIERSEN: What have you done to stop basement seepage and flooding? Since 1984, I have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars for my home at 915 Cove Court in Wheaton a) making lot drainage improvements including installing French drains and storm sewer inlets, b) paying for an overhead sewer system, c) paying to have all nine of the home’s downspouts directly connected to the city storm sewer system, d) patching long wide cracks in the basement floor, e) having the home’s exterior footing tiles cleaned out, f) properly connecting 6″ and 4″ drainage tile lines from uphill properties to the city storm sewer system, g) installing battery backup sump pumps, h) etc. The builder a) put steel reinforcement rods in the foundation walls to compensate for cracked foundation footings and b) installed interior footing tiles.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A week before the maggots hatched, raw sewage gushed into Lori Burns’ basement for the sixth time in a decade. Her brick bungalow in the Chatham neighborhood was among thousands of Chicago homes swamped by another rainstorm that overwhelmed the city’s aging sewer system. This particular downpour ended up as one of the worst on record. Two months’ worth of rain fell in two days during April 2013 — a storm marked by geysers of human waste bursting out of manholes, and a torrent of sewage and runoff surging through the Chicago River into Lake Michigan.)
— A new bill aims to force Illinois’ largely white, male corporate boards to diversify. Some say it’s unconstitutional. – Corilyn Shropshire (DIERSEN: While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, Democrat politicians forced my Democrat superiors to use Affirmative Action, Diversity, Inclusion, up-or-out, and budget cuts a) to hire, retain, and promote young Democrat minorities and young Democrat females and b) to make way for them by getting rid of their employees who were Republican, White, male, and/or non-veteran who they had not promoted to GS-13 (currently $98,198) by age 25, GS-14 (currently $116,040) by age 30, GS-15 (currently $136,495) by age 35, and Senior Executive Service (currently $165,500) by age 40.)

My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always been furious about that. They hint/imply/argue/shout that we would never have been able to do that a) if I had not avoided the draft, b) if I not gotten overpaid jobs working for the federal government, c) if I had not gotten married, d) if my wife and I had not given up trying to have children, c) if we had adopted, d) if we had become foster parents, and/or e) if we had given lots of money to churches like they do.)

HERALD & REVIEW
— Decatur collected $6 million from video gambling. One city official says ‘this is not what we bargained for.’ – JAYLYN COOK
https://herald-review.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/decatur-collected-million-from-video-gambling-one-city-official-says/article_0cccbb64-0826-58fd-aa08-d378db8ee7c3.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Anita Bedell, executive director of Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems, said there have been successful attempts by municipalities to oppose or overturn the presence of video gambling in Illinois. An example she referenced happened in Forest Park, which voted to outlaw video gaming in November after initially allowing it in the community . . .Bedell said the data surrounding losses is a sign that people are addicted to the gambling and play several times a day with no return on investment. The National Council on Problem Gambling said two million, or 1%, of adults in the United States are estimated to meet criteria for pathological gambling in a given year. Another four to six million adults would be considered problem gamblers, meaning they don’t meet the full diagnostic criteria for pathological gambling, but meet one or more of the criteria and are experiencing problems due to their gambling behavior. The NCPG also said most adults who choose to gamble are able to do so responsibly. Bedell said it’s tough for those addicted to gambling in Illinois to find the support they need. “The state has very little money for treatment and prevention,” she said. “A lot of the times what people have are Gamblers Anonymous meetings. They have quite a few in northern Illinois, but in central, it’s sparse.” Bedell said the prevalence of video gaming machines in places like restaurants, grocery stores and other venues has taken the need for visiting a casino away from people and allowed them to “gamble more and lose more.” Whobrey said he notices the effect gambling has on some people. He calls the machines at the VFW post a “necessary evil” because they provide a financial boost, but can also drive people to spend money that they may not have. “Some people come here, don’t buy a thing and spend it on gaming,” he said. “But the money helps us provide services for the veterans … It’s kept here in Decatur. That’s a big thing.”)

WASHINGTON EXAMINER
— This is a great time to be a working mother – Patrice Onwuka (DIERSEN: When you were young, did your mother stay home and raise you? My outstanding mother did. Since the 1940s, because my mother stayed home and raised me, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have demonized me, denigrated me, and condemned me as having been born with a silver spoon in my mouth and as having always been undeservedly privileged and filthy rich. In my defense, neither of my outstanding parents attended college, my mother was raised on a farm and never attended high school, my father fought type 1 diabetes from age 14, and he was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. To pay our family’s bills, he almost always worked second jobs including playing music, delivering eggs, and working in a fast food restaurant. He did not buy a new car until he was 45 in 1967 and it was a bottom of the line 2-door Chevy with almost no options.)

Each debate will have a maximum of 10 participants, and the requirements will be used to determine placement for both the June event, as well as a second pair of debates in Detroit in July. WATERTOWN DAILY TIMES
— Why are some people down on Joe Biden? – Ed Rogers (DIERSEN: If there are people who are down on you and down on those who share your demographics, why is that? My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes hint/imply/argue/shout that the more of the following that you are, the more unpopular that you are: Trump supporter, Protestant, conservative, patriotic, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owner, German American, draft avoider, and/or if your ancestors have been in America for a long time. https://www.watertowndailytimes.com/opinion/why-are-some-people-down-on-joe-biden-20190512
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Today, some on the left are suggesting that “electability” is somehow a dog whistle for proponents of the white patriarchy in much the same way that supporters of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., called “likability” an unfair barrier at the beginning of this year. “Metrics like authenticity and likability and electability are just code that we use against candidates who are not like what we are used to,” a spokeswoman for Emily’s List told Vox in March.)

(FROM THE LETTER: Editor, in your recent Sunday column you wrote, “what I don’t like is politicians who strive to divide their constituents.” What is your position on newspapers that strive to divide their readers? Syndicated columnist Leonard Pitts wrote in the Times-News, “anyone who voted for Trump is a racist and misogynist.” I’d say that is fairly divisive and also inaccurate. Local columnist Jan Fuller, the chaplain at Elon University, wrote recently that all white gun owners are racists. She neglected to mention black gun owners. I have no idea how she pigeonholes them. Sweeping generalizations are never right. Those made by these columnists are very divisive and do not deserve a public platform. Their inclusion in the Times-News helps to divide your readers.)

EURASIA REVIEW
— Sri Lanka Government Begins Paying Compensations For Easter Sunday Terror Victims (DIERSEN: How soon will the Democrats in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, in Illinois, and in America officially establish reparations offices like Sri Lanka has? Ever-increasingly, in America, since the Civil War, the federal government has served as a reparations office. Ever-increasingly, it promotes Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion.)
https://www.eurasiareview.com/12052019-sri-lanka-government-begins-paying-compensations-for-easter-sunday-terror-victims/

(FROM THE ARTICLE: The families of 103 victims killed in the Easter Sunday bombings on April 21 have received Reparations  47 million in compensations to date, Sri Lanka’s Secretary of the National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development and Youth Affairs Ministry, V. Sivagnanasothy said. The ministry’s Office for Reparations rushed through compensations for death victims based on reports from Divisional Secretaries, Judicial Medical Officers and Coroners, Sivagnanasothy said. What the families of the deceased victims have received is a partial payment, not the full compensation payment, which is Rs 1 million in total, Sivagnanasothy said. The Office for Reparations expects to pay out full compensation claims after it has received relevant death certificates of the victims. Most families of deceased victims have yet to furnish death certificates for the persons declared killed in the bombings, Sivagnanasothy said. The ministry has received 266 cases claiming death compensations and 407 cases claiming compensations for injuries. Sivagnanasothy said those who suffered injuries will be paid up to Rs500,000 depending on the nature, the disability based on a medical certificate issued by a government medical offers, and also on loss of income suffered due to injuries.)
