My taking graduate evening business courses helped me get promoted to GS-9 ($68,315/year) in 1972, to GS-11 ($82,655/year) in 1973, and to GS-12 ($99,069/year) in 1974. I earned an MBA in 1976. But my Democrat IRS superiors ignored/dismissed/belittled that. They hinted/implied/agued/shouted that my undergraduate major should have been accounting and that my master’s degree should have been in accounting. So I started taking graduate evening accounting courses in 1976. I took and passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I earned a master’s degree in accounting in 1980. But my Democrat IRS superiors ignored/dismissed/belittled that. My Democrat IRS superiors would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, younger, or veteran. The aforesaid motivated me to transfer to GAO in 1980. I should write about that.

IRS Revenue Agents conduct tax audits to determine the correct tax liability, while an IRS Revenue Officers take enforcement actions to collect delinquent tax debts. While there are differences between what IRS Revenue Agents do and what IRS Revenue Offices do, there are many similarities. Being a Revenue Agent requires more accounting education. To get promoted, both IRS Revenue Agents and Officers need more accounting education.
