(FROM THE ARTICLE: SALT LAKE CITY – One of the responsibilities of Republican delegates from Cache County at the upcoming statewide convention on April 27 will be selecting a committeeman and committeewoman to represent Utah on the Republican National Committee. In addition to deciding which GOP candidates do or don’t make it to the June statewide primary and the November election, delegates will also chose between six candidates for RNC committeeman and two candidates for RNC committeewoman. Those candidates for RNC committeeman are Ty Jensen, a candidate in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District; author and climate scientist William Pekny; Dustin Kearl, a certified public accountant and financial consultant; businessman Michael Pierce; entrepreneur Brad Bonham; and David Yonan of Ogden. The candidates for RNC committeewoman are Teena Horlacker, a distance educator for the Western Governor’s University, and Kim Coleman, a former member of the Utah Legislature. The primary role of delegates is to represent their precincts in selecting candidates for the primary and general elections, according to Cache GOP chair Geoff Cox. They will also need to exercise sound judgment in determining the fitness and fidelity to Republican principles of the aforementioned candidates for the national GOP committee. According to the agenda for its convention, the Utah GOP’s state delegates will begin gathering at the Salt Palace Convention Center starting at 7 a.m. for credentialing.
