https://thelansingjournal.com/2024/12/02/thornton-township-election-preview-tuesday-is-caucus-day-candidates-so-far/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In preparation for what could be the most contested Thornton Township election in recent history, major political parties will each hold a caucus Tuesday, Dec. 3, to select candidates for supervisor, clerk, assessor, highway commissioner, and four trustee seats. Voters will go to the polls on April 1, 2025, to make their selections in the Consolidated Election, and the caucuses determine which candidates they will see on their ballots. A source familiar with Thornton Township politics said these are the first caucuses held in many years. . .Residents of Thornton Township may participate in either the Democratic or Republican Party caucuses, nominating a candidate and voting on their party’s nominees. By participating in the caucus, a resident is becoming affiliated with that political party. Caucus proceedings  When entering the caucus room, participants will be asked to sign an affidavit stating they are registered to vote in Thornton Township and are affiliated with the established political party conducting the caucus — that they are a registered Democrat or registered Republican. The chair of the proceedings will call the caucus to order. They will introduce the caucus judges of election and announce the offices for which nominees will be selected. Then the chair calls for nominations, which can come from anyone in the caucus. The procedure continues until there are no more nominations. Participants then vote on their preferred nominees. The highest vote-getters in each race are selected as the nominee. Independent and other candidates  Candidates running under non-major political parties have already filed their candidacy for Thornton Township, and do not participate in the caucus process. Four Independent Party candidates are looking to unseat Henyard: Nate Fields Jr., LaShunte’ Lollis-Walton, Stafford Owens, and Sidney Moore. Harvey Mayor Chris Clark is also a candidate for supervisor, leading a Reform Thornton Township Party ticket that includes four candidates for trustee: Harvey city administrator Corean Davis, Harvey fifth ward alderperson Dominique Randle-El, Rachel Jones, and Jacinta J. Gholston. Also running for trustee are Democrat Mary Ann Thornton and Independent Felesa Melvin. Running for highway commissioner is Independent Kenny Williams. The township Clerk’s office reported no filings for clerk or assessor. It is not clear whether other incumbents on the Thornton Township Board of Trustees, all Democrats, are seeking nominations to retain their seats.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In an email, Lauzen wrote that he fired Cain on Friday, Nov. 22. “It is now obvious to me that I made a mistake when I hired her,” Lauzen’s email stated. When there were concerns about her work, he said, he gave her a written six-month performance improvement plan. . .In his email, Lauzen denied saying he had “given up” on her, spoke to her with contempt, and justified that he wanted her log in ID and password because he is “ultimately responsible for everything that occurs in the Treasurer’s Office, both good and bad, I need to know what is going on around me.” As to his lack of computer skills, Lauzen said he depends on his staff and the IT department to assist. “There is no conceit on my part that my data processing skills are in any way exemplary,” Lauzen wrote. “I’m not shy to ask for help.” Lauzen also wrote that the Treasurer’s Office does not have to follow Government Accounting Standard Board rules regarding revenue. It also does not have statutory responsibility or authority to produce or present the county’s financial statements. “The Accounting Department does. Therefore, we have nothing to do with the applicability of any GASB regulations,” Lauzen wrote.)

https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/5012229-trump-dei-merit/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President-elect Donald Trump’s resounding victory signals a turning point for our nation. As America grapples with the consequences of unchecked diversity, equity and inclusion or DEI policies, the second Trump administration has a clear mandate to restore fairness and meritocracy in employment law. . .At its core, DEI as currently practiced is antithetical to the principles of fairness and equality. Instead of leveling the playing field, it tilts it steeply in favor of select groups, creating a workplace culture where hiring and promotions are often dictated by identity rather than merit. DEI practices, though often cloaked in the language of equity, are nothing more than reverse discrimination, punishing individuals for their race or gender while undermining the very concept of merit-based achievement. . .Second, Trump can promote merit-based hiring and advancement. Meritocracy is the cornerstone of a thriving economy. Employment decisions should be based on skills, qualifications and performance — not identity. The Trump administration must make it clear that federally regulated industries and contractors will face penalties for using quotas or “diversity scorecards” as hiring criteria. Transparency in hiring and promotion processes should also be mandated to ensure fairness. . .America’s workplaces must remain places of opportunity and collaboration, not battlegrounds for ideological warfare. DEI, as it currently stands, has created an environment of division, resentment and legal uncertainty. By focusing on merit, fairness and individual rights, the Trump administration can undo the damage wrought by years of identity politics and restore a culture of excellence and mutual respect.)
