When my father died suddenly in October of 1969, he outstandingly came to the wake in Crete. His summer job in 1969 was interning at KPMG while my summer job was delivering mail in Park Forest. I will forever regret a) my not majoring in accounting at NIU like Gary did, b) my not starting to take graduate accounting courses at DePaul until I was 27, c) my not taking and passing the CPA examination on my first attempt until I was 30, and d) my not becoming a licensed CPA until I was 32.)
(FROM THE OBITUARY: Gary was a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a degree in accounting. He was a highly driven, business- minded CPA who quickly worked his way up at KPMG, becoming a partner at just age 32. He held many esteemed positions, including partner-in-charge of the Chicago Audit Practice and leader of the Midwest-area technology practice. An accountant by trade, Gary dedicated his talents not only to his work but also to the community. He joined many business boards. He was a director of Marine Bank and “interim” President of Sunny Ridge Family Center for ten years, guiding them to success.)
