CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Vice President Pence hits Chicago Friday: Roskam fundraiser, Rauner’s role – Lynn Sweet
https://chicago.suntimes.com/news/vice-president-pence-chicago-friday-roskam-fundraiser-rauner/

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Ever-increasingly, newspapers do everything that they can a) to promote the Democrat, Libertarian, and Green party platforms and b) block the Republican Party platform.

— Chicago Police Department overtime down 30 percent, thanks to controls to rein in ‘culture of abuse’ – Fran Spielman (DIERSEN: Have you worked overtime? If I sought a government office or a political office, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes would stress the overtime that I worked while I was a part-time postal employee in Park Forest 1966-1969. I had lots of opportunities to work overtime because my Democrat coworkers often turned it down.)

— FBI agent Peter Strzok: My work has never been tainted by political bias – AP (DIERSEN: My Democrat superiors in the federal government would say that too. Democrats use Affirmative Action, Diversity, and Inclusion to not hire, to not retain, to not promote, to waste the careers of, and to get rid of Republicans, and Republicans who are White, male, older, and/or non-veteran.)

— White House highlights Rauner’s praise of Supreme Court pick – Rick Pearson
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-bruce-rauner-donald-trump-supreme-court-20180711-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Rauner has made a point of rarely speaking about Trump, the administration’s policies or national issues affecting the state in Washington. But as he attempts in an election year to unify a Republican conservative base divided by laws he signed expanding abortion, transgender and immigrant rights, Rauner is speaking more about Washington. The quote in the White House’s “what they are saying” email comes from a Rauner tweet Monday night. The email also featured supporting comments about Kavanaugh from two Downstate Republican House members, Reps. Darin LaHood of Peoria and Rodney Davis of Taylorville.)
— Praise for poise: When a loudmouth berates you for your T-shirt – Editorial (DIERSEN: If you wore a Trump T-shirt in your neighborhood, in your precinct, in your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, or in Illinois, how viciously would anti-Trumps berate you? How would you react to their berating?)

CHICAGO CITY WIRE
— AS THE DEMOCRAT PARTY’S STRANGLEHOLD ON CHICAGO TIGHTENS: City Journal: Pfleger should hold Chicago’s ‘criminal class’ not ‘social-welfare bureaucracy’ accountable – Karen Kidd (DIERSEN: Sooner or later, Democrats blame all crime on Republicans.)
https://chicagocitywire.com/stories/511480650-city-journal-pfleger-should-hold-chicago-s-criminal-class-not-social-welfare-bureaucracy-accountable
(FROM THE ARTICLE: City Journal called the protest, led by the Rev. Michael Pfleger, senior pastor at The Faith Community of Saint Sabina, “misguided” and said the event blames “rampant violent crime on inadequate social spending” in a city in its eighth decade controlled by Democrats. “Someone should be decrying Chicago’s ongoing carnage, but Pfleger’s explanation for what’s causing it — poverty, unemployment, and underfunded schools — is just another reprise of the old liberal notion that violent crime is driven by socioeconomic ‘root causes’,” Rafael Mangual, deputy director of legal policy at City Journal, said in an op-ed piece. “That argument reflects a serious misunderstanding of Chicago’s highly concentrated violent crime.”)

— Minimum wage hikes a poor step towards prosperity (DIERSEN: I did not start earning $15/hour in today’s dollars until I was 18 years old in 1966. I worked for much less than $15/hour in today’s dollars when I did yard work and delivered newspapers 1962-1964; washed dishes 1964-1966; and cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline in 1966.)

— DIERSEN HEADLINE: Ever-increasingly, anti-Trumps encourage citizens of foreign countries a) to come to America illegally, b) to stay in America illegally, and c) to bring children to America illegally and then b) use those illegals to demonize, to denigrate, and to condemn Trump and his supporters as being White supremacists, Nazis, KKK members, haters, racists, sexists, bigots, and even worse things.

WASHINGTON POST
— The elite world of Brett Kavanaugh – Paul Schwartzman and Michelle Boorstein (DIERSEN: Who paints/painted you as being an elite? My Democrat superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates in the federal government did everything that they could to paint me as being filthy rich elite. They stressed the money I spent on new cars, tuition and text books, real estate, and collector cars. They stressed the vacations that I took, including many vacations in connection with my wife’s many business trips to luxury resorts across America 1978-1992. They stressed the money that my wife and I saved for our retirement. They hinted/implied/argued/shouted that everyone who lived in Crete, in new town homes in University Park, in the Outer Drive East building in downtown Chicago, and in Wheaton was a filthy rich elite. Beginning in 1971 when I bought a new 1972 Corvette, they especially hinted/implied/argued/shouted that everyone who owned a Corvette was filthy rich elite.)

USA TODAY
— HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Small businesses struggle to hire, keep employees Bigger firms woo them with higher pay, perks – Paul Davidson (DIERSEN: How large have the employers been that you have worked for? None of the employers that I worked for 1964-1997 were small, except for John’s Sinclair during the summer of 1966.)

FORBES
— How Early Retirement Might Be Killing Men – John Wasik (DIERSEN: I should write a book about early retirement. I have been retired for almost 21 years.)

— Budgeting For Your Retirement Years – You’ll Need More Than You Think – Bart Astor
https://www.forbes.com/sites/bartastor/2018/07/11/budgeting-for-your-retirement-years-youll-need-more-than-you-think/#51b36c4e2341
(FROM THE ARTICLE: As most of you know, financial planners often say that 70% of current income is the best estimate. My calculation was significantly higher, namely, 82%. I arrived at that figure because I think the reasons for that lower figure are outdated. As I explained: You need to continue to save for your later years because you will likely have 20, 30 or more years left to live but you may not be investing as aggressively A third of folks in their 60’s continue to work or have encore careers and still pay into FICA Even if you stop or cut down on your work, you’ll still have travel expenses and, perhaps, significantly higher health expenses Fewer and fewer homeowners ever pay their mortgages off completely or they rent, so they still have a house payment.)

MARKET WATCH
— Is early retirement possible? – DANA ANSPACH
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/is-early-retirement-possible-2018-07-11

(FROM THE ARTICLE: One of the biggest challenges to early retirement is figuring out how to pay for health care. Regarding health care coverage, “early” retirement would be before age 65, at which time most Americans become eligible for Medicare. Unless you’re lucky enough to have employer-covered retiree health insurance, you’ll pay hefty premiums until you become Medicare-eligible. If you’re exiting the workforce before age 65, plan on budgeting $500 to $1,000 a month per person to purchase health insurance. Instead of shelling out $1,000 a month, some early retirees are opting for retirement jobs. Something part-time, low-stress and low-pay, but with benefits. This type of job can help bridge the gap from early retirement to Medicare age. Once on Medicare, you still pay premiums, but they’re more affordable, often less than half of what you were paying before going on Medicare.)
