(FROM THE ARTICLE: Abortion-rights group Personal PAC plans to start dropping mailers critical of Republican state Rep. Peter Breen of Lombard, an early signal that Democrats could see the seat as a top target in November. Breen is an attorney and leading abortion opponent who helped spearhead the lawsuit challenging Illinois new law expanding access to taxpayer-funded abortions. He is the House GOP floor leader at the Capitol. Personal PAC President Terry Cosgrove said the group is spending money early to take on Breen because the House district he holds is a “moderate” one that went for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016. Breen doesn’t have a primary opponent but will face Democrat Terra Costa Howard of Glen Ellyn in the fall. “It takes a lot of hard work to get voters to understand what their state representative has been up to,” Cosgrove said. He declined to say how much his PAC plans to spend on the race, but it’s already launched a website critical of Breen. Breen surfaced in the news recently because he wrote a letter to Republican leaders saying GOP House candidate Burt Minor “is not fit to serve” because of “inappropriate” comments that attorney general candidate Erika Harold said he made to her about race and sexual orientation. Breen is a former Lombard official in his second House term. In 2016, he won re-election with more than 56 percent of the vote.)
