https://www.chicagotribune.com/sns-tns-bc-congress-commentary-20191129-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The report recommends Congress significantly ramp up its technical expertise on committees, and at support agencies like the Government Accountability Office and the Congressional Research Service. A recent study by Harvard’s Belfer Center came to a similar conclusion, finding that “Congress has not shown that it has the necessary capacity and expertise to fully exercise its constitutional duties … (and) has appeared unprepared to reckon with emerging technologies and their effects on society.” . . . There have also been efforts within GAO to bolster its science and technology capabilities, leading to the creation of the Science, Technology Assessment, and Analytics team, as well as a new Center for Strategic Foresight. Restoring Congress’ foresight and analytical capabilities would be an important step toward reestablishing the institution’s place as the “first branch.” Both GAO and OTA were designed to serve the major policy priorities of committees, and thus offer a high return on investment per dollar spent for taxpayers. Nonetheless, it’s not the only upgrade needed.)

EFFINGHAM DAILY NEWS
— Why start a business when you can start a movement? – Jim Nowlan (DIERSEN: Political parties exist to help elect candidates who can and will defend and advance their platform. From what I see, far too many of those who dominate the Republican Party reject far too many planks in the Republican Party platform, typically the traditional family, right to life, immigration, Second Amendment, illegal drugs, and equal opportunity (no race or gender based preference giving) planks. They focus on destroying those like me who support the aforesaid planks.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: In the present era, national politics are shaped by winning intra-party primary elections, which are largely captured by activists at polar extremes. The great swath of us in the middle are marginalized, having little impact on who become candidates. I propose a nationwide competition — with big prizes — among teams at our business school MBA programs, to develop the best “business plan” for creation and implementation of a new, competitive political party.)

PATRIOT POST
— Give Thanks for America’s Increasing Fairness – Michael Barone (DIERSEN: Obviously, Barone has never had to pay the price of Affirmative Action, Diversity, or Inclusion. Obviously, Barone has never been adversely impacted by patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, or retaliation. From what I see, ever-increasingly, it is more difficult for those who share my demographics to have a successful career. If was 16 today, the Post Office would not offer me a job like it did in 1966. If was 22 today, IRS would not offer me a job like it did in 1971. If I was 23, 24, or 25 today, IRS would not promote me like it did in 1972, 1973, and 1974. If was 31 today, GAO would not offer me a job like it did in 1980. If I was 38 today, GAO would not promote me like it did in 1986. Instead of me, those who are Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran would be hired and promoted instead of me.)

NBC NEWS
— These are the most ‘just’ and fair companies. Is yours on the list? Forget fat bonuses and fun perks; a ‘just’ job is what the millennial and Gen Z workforce wants. – Nicole Spector (DIERSEN: According to Democrats, it is “just” and “fair” a) to give preference to those who are Democrats, and especially to Democrats who are minority, female, and/or younger and b) to make way for them by getting rid of Republicans, and especially Republicans who are White, male, older, and/or non-veteran. It is called Affirmative Action, Diversity, Inclusion, up-or-out, patronage, political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination.)

Consider California’s transformation from its Reagan years to today. – Lane Kenworthy (DIERSEN: How successful do you believe that members of Group A will be in getting rid of members of Group B? — Why Culture Fit Hurts Your Business – Heidi Lynne Kurter (DIERSEN: What is/was the culture where you work/worked? I should write a book about the culture at GAO 1980-1997 and at IRS 1971-1980. What is the culture of the organizations that you are a member of? I should write a book about the culture at the Milton Township Republican Central Committee since 1999. NASDAQ
— Why 60% Qualified Is Enough, According to a Recruiter (DIERSEN: GAO audits IRS. In 1980, when I was 31 years old, according to the Democrats who ran GAO, I was NOT qualified to transfer in from IRS as a GS-12 Step 5, currently $93,592/year. They insisted that I accept a downgrade to GS-9 Step 10, currently $74,024/year, a pay cut of $19,568/year (21%) in today’s dollars. They never would have done that if I had been a Democrat, minority, female, or veteran. I had passed the CPA examination on my first attempt in 1979. I had almost completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul. I had earned an MBA from Loyola in 1976. I had worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently $82,579-$93,592/year. I had earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970. Much of what I did for IRS was very similar to what I would be doing for GAO including interviewing, gathering data, summarizing data, analyzing data, report writing, and making recommendations.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: If you’re a woman who has ever embarked on a job search, you may have heard the buzz: Women and men tend to approach job searching differently. In 2013, HP released a report stating women usually apply for jobs only if they meet 100% of the requirements. In many cases, women view a job description as a list of skills and qualifications they should already have instead of skills they can develop as they learn the job. Men, on the other hand, usually apply if they meet 60% of the requirements. While this statistic certainly does not apply to all job seekers, it does resonate with many women in the workforce.)

HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR
— Onboarding: What HR professionals need to know Onboarding is an essential but commonly overlooked component of an organization’s success – Geraldine Grones (DIERSEN: I should write a book about my first 2 year working for GAO in 1980 and 1981. My Democrat superiors, supervisors, and coworkers did everything that they could to get me to go back to IRS, and failing that, to destroy any possibility that I would ever get promoted. In my defense, I completed the requirements for a master’s degree in accounting from DePaul in 1980. I passed the Certified Internal Auditor’s examination on my first attempt in 1981 and became a licensed CPA in 1981.)
