— HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: Stop Trying to Sway Co-Workers  Airing your political beliefs at work often makes colleges vote the contrary, studies say. – GAVAN FITZSIMONS (DIERSEN: While I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years, virtually all my superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates were Democrats.  Knowing that, I did not try to sway them and I did not air my political beliefs.  However, when they asked me questions, I answered truthfully.  They often asked me questions to confirm that I opposed promoting wealth redistribution, dependency on government, dependency on charity, LGBTQ activity, abortion, mass/illegal immigration, race based preference giving, gender based preference giving, age discrimination, political affiliation discrimination, abolition of the First and Second Amendments, pot, booze, smoking, gambling, and other vices, surrender of America to Mexico and to other foreign countries, etc.)

— HARDCOPY ARTICLE TITLE: New Strategy to Close Wealth Gap – Neil Irwin  (DIERSEN: What would your superiors say that they did to close the wealth gap?  My Democrat GAO superiors would stress that they forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, did not promote me beyond GS-13, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take an $18,459 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.  My Democrat IRS superiors would stress that they did not promote me beyond GS-12, that they disallowed my education deductions, and that they disallowed my partial day per diem claims.  My Democrat Post Office superiors would stress that they forced me resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests.  My aforesaid Democrat superiors would stress that the aforesaid adverse actions that they took against me directly benefited their employees who were poor, and especially their poor employees who were Democrat, minority, female, younger, and/or veteran.)

— New Item on the College Admission Checklist: LinkedIn Profile  The high school resume has become the latest weapon in the admissions arms race. – NATASHA SINGER  (DIERSEN: What would your LinkedIn profile have included while you were in high school?  My LinkedIn profile back then would have included buying a 1958 Chevy BelAir, washing dishes for the minimum wage in the basement of the S.S. Kresges in Chicago Heights, buying a new 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint, taking college preparatory courses, being in the upper 20% of my graduating class, and having an ACT score of 24.)

— The Men Feminists Left Behind – JILL FILIPOVIC  (DIERSEN: Of course, obviously, needless-to-say, and without question, my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that only “bad” Whites, that only “bad” men, that only “bad” older people, and that only “bad” non-veterans should and do pay the price of Affirmative Action, of Diversity, and of Inclusion. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I have always been “bad” and that they have always been “good.”  To paint me as being “bad,” they stress that I am White, male, old (born in 1948), non-veteran, 100% German national origin, baptized, raised and confirmed as a Missouri Synod Lutheran, conservative, Republican, a Wheaton resident since 1978, a Crete resident 1948-1972, non-poor, gun owner, my ancestors have been in America since the 1840s, childless, petless, union member for almost 12 years, federal employee for almost 30 years, retired federal employee for more that 19 years, American-nameplate car owner, etc.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/06/opinion/campaign-stops/the-men-feminists-left-behind.html
— The Post-Familial Election  How the thinning out of families created fertile ground for Trump. – Ross Douthat  (DIERSEN: How is your family tree doing?  How many children did you and your spouse have, did your parents have, and did your grandparents have?  My wife and I gave up trying to have children, my parents had two children, my grandparents on my father’s side had two children and my grandparents on my mother’s side had four children.  My brother and my father’s sister never married and had no children.)
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/06/opinion/sunday/the-post-familial-election.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: So instead of widening, my family tree tapered, its branches thinned. And it may thin again, since so far the seven cousins in my generation have only three children. All of them are mine. This is a very normal Western family history. Everywhere across the developed world, families have grown more attenuated: fewer and later marriages, fewer and later-born children, fewer brothers and sisters and cousins, more people living for longer and longer stretches on their own. It’s a new model of social life, a “post-familial” revolution that’s unique to late modernity. For a while, conservatives have worried that this revolution is a boon to liberalism, to centralization and bureaucratic control — because as families thin people are more likely to look to politics for community and government for protection. This idea is borne out in voting patterns, where marriage and kids tend to predict Republican affiliation, and the single and divorced are often reliable Democratic partisans. The Obama White House’s “Life of Julia” ad campaign in 2012 — featuring a woman whose every choice was subsidized by the government from cradle to grave, with a lone child but no larger family or community in sight — seemed to many conservatives like a perfect confirmation of our fears: Here was liberalism explicitly pitching the state as a substitute for kith and kin. But while we worried about the liberal vision, our own ideological side was adapting to the family’s attenuation in darker ways — speaking not to singletons or single mothers, but to powerful post-familial anxieties among the middle-aged and old.)

LAS VEGAS REVIEW JOURNAL
— The real national embarrassment – Robert Samuelson
http://www.reviewjournal.com/the-real-national-embarrassment
(FROM THE ARTICLE: All this suggests an obvious immigration agenda.  First, we need to reduce illegal immigrants, both because illegality is bad in its own right and because the constant inflow frustrates assimilation. To further discourage illegal immigration, we should make E-Verify — a system for employers to check the immigration status of job applicants — mandatory for most businesses. We also need to legalize the vast majority of undocumented workers who have been here for years and don’t have a criminal record. Finally, we need to reform legal immigration so that it favors the entry of high-skilled workers, who aid the economy and assimilate more easily.)

NATIONAL REVIEW
— Review: Listen, Liberals! And Hear The Political Rage Of America’s Dispossessed – Robert Kuttner  (DIERSEN: In your municipality, in your township/ward, in your county, and in Illinois, who takes the lead in demonizing, denigrating, and condemning those who are Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, draft avoiders, those who are of German national origin, and/or those whose ancestors have been in America longer than their ancestors?  I should write a book about the aforesaid in Wheaton, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois.)
http://www.nationalmemo.com/review-listen-liberals-political-rage-americas-dispossessed/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Five years ago, the sociologist Arlie Hochschild set out to better understand what she called the “deep story” of the mostly white, mostly downwardly mobile Americans who made up the fervent constituency of the Tea Party, and now of Donald Trump. These are the people who ostensibly vote against their economic self-interests, as Thomas Frank contended more than a decade ago in What’s the Matter with Kansas? They loathe a government that often redistributes and regulates in their favor.)

The left behind are now having their say  As industry and the Democrats abandoned the working and middle classes, Republicans posed as their protectors. I was a union member for almost 12 years.  Should I write a book about those who hate unions and hate union members the most in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois?  Should I write a book about my Democrat GAO superiors, supervisors, coworkers, and subordinates who hated unions and hated union members the most?)

— Cracking The Code On Gen Z: Do As I Say, Not As I Do – Neale Godfrey  (DIERSEN: I started saving for my retirement in 1966 when I was 18 years old when I started earning credits toward a Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension.  Money Magazine reported in its February 1978 issue that as of the end of 1977, I had made $7,393 in CSRS contributions or 7% of the $105,614 that IRS had paid me since 1971. Subsequently, to get 3 years of full-time CSRS credit even though I had only worked part-time for the Park Forest Post Office, I paid CSRS 7% of what the Post Office paid me 1966-1969 plus interest.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Baby Boomers Blew It  We Baby Boomers did fail when planning for our financial future, but part of the problem is that our future is being prolonged. We are living longer and therefore outliving our resources. In 1900, the average lifespan was 47 years. Today, AARP reports that a 65-year old is expected to be able to blow out their birthday candles at 85 years of age. Wow, get out and enjoy your retirement. This is great news unless you happen to be an average American, between the age of 55 and 64, who has only accrued $104,000 in retirement savings, according to the June 2015 Government Accountability Office. To sum this up, a longer life span means that 47 percent of the oldest Baby Boomers are at risk of not having enough money for retirement, as reported by Employee Benefit Research Institute. Options are scary. Keep working? Live with the kids? Your choices get limited. We Baby Boomers have not set a great example for the Gen Z’ers who are just getting out of school, entering the workforce and trying to design their own financial futures.)
