CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— FRONT PAGE WITH COLOR PICTURE: Campaign signs are everywhere. But do they work? – Kate Thayer (DIERSEN: What has your Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain done to encourage the Republican voters in your precinct to display signs for the Republican candidates on the November 6, 2018 ballot in your precinct? In August, I hand-delivered a letter (https://gopillinois.com/documents/) to all the homes in my precinct that had at least one registered Republican voter that asked them to consider displaying yard signs for the Republican candidates on the November 6, 2018 ballot in our precinct. The letter included a listing of all the candidates and the office that they are running for. I hand-delivered the letter a second time in September to the Republican homes on the busier streets in my precinct – Roosevelt Road, Warrenville Road, and Elm Street. Since September 4, 2018 my two Roskam 4X4s and my two “Vote Republican” 4X4s have been displayed on the second floor balcony of Ron Dell’s building at the southeast corner of Roosevelt and Warrenville in my precinct. Three 4X3 Roskam signs are being displayed on Warrenville south of Roosevelt, one at Park and Wheaton by Whittier Grade School, one at Elm and Wheaton by Edison Middle School, and one at Warrenville and Arbor.)

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/politics/ct-met-casten-business-background-20180927-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republicans, though, have attacked Casten’s business career in campaign ads, zeroing in on a 2015 lawsuit filed by an investor in Recycled Energy Development, which converted emissions from power plants into energy. Casten was the company’s president and CEO. The suit leveled allegations of mismanagement against Casten and the company’s leadership, including “baseless accounting manipulations,” “inflated salaries,” “improperly inflated bonuses” and “irresponsible spending,” according to court documents. Casten and his family eventually settled with the investor’s management firm and sold the company. Letters sent to investors in RED in the lead-up to the sale that were obtained by the Chicago Tribune stated that while preferred interest holders in RED would recoup their investment plus interest, common interest investors would not.)

— There’s a surprising lack of detail in the ‘October surprise’ against Pritzker – Eric Zorn (DIERSEN: There are lots of details in Diersen v. GAO. My Democrat GAO superiors forced me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, gave me unfair performance expectations and appraisals, always ranked me in the bottom half of my coworkers for pay-for-performance purposes, did not promote me beyond GS-13, got rid of my mentor in 1987, kept me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and forced me to take a $19,203 (26%) pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980. In 1988, when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged my Democrat GAO superiors with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)

https://www.nwherald.com/2018/10/18/republican-officials-condemn-attack-letters-to-woodstock-democrats/aruj6kc/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Anonymous attack letters sent to Woodstock residents with Democratic political signage on their lawns has pushed a pair of Republican leaders in McHenry County to speak against hate rhetoric in the community. “I condemn the coward(s) who wrote these letters, and ask anyone with any bit of concern for the direction in which our public conversation has gone to do the same,” state Rep. Steve Reick, R-Woodstock, said in a statement. “This transcends party, and silence is not an option.” The typed letters, signed by “The Phantom” and “The Wizard,” arrived in the mail last week for Woodstock Democrats Sarah Parisi and Lou Ness. The letters included no return address and attacked the residents for the signs planted in their yards supporting local Democrats.)

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2018/10/18/u-n-40-percent-of-u-s-births-occur-outside-of-marriage/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: A new report from the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) says 40 percent of all births in the United States occur outside of marriage, an increase from 10 percent in 1970. The data show births outside marriage in the European Union (EU) are up even greater. “The data show such births in the U.S. and EU are predominantly to unmarried couples living together rather than to single mothers,” Bloomberg reports. Michael Hermann, UNFPA’s senior adviser on economics and demography, told Bloomberg the EU likely has even more out-of-wedlock births than the U.S. because its member countries provide greater amounts of welfare and public health funding in their socialized medicine programs. Unwed parents are also provided with tax incentives, Hermann said. Kelly Jones, director for the Center on the Economics of Reproductive Health at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, reportedly said the data show cultural and religious norms about women and marriage have changed, and women are starting families later in life. In the U.S., the average age a woman has her first child is now 27, according to the data, up from 22 in 1970. “Women are claiming their ground professionally,” Jones said. “Delaying motherhood is a rational decision when you consider the impact it can have on your career, and that’s contributing to this trend.” The marriage rate has also declined in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau, as the number of cohabitating adults has risen. In addition, the U.S. fertility rate plummeted last year to a record low. John Santelli, professor at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health, told Bloomberg the traditional culture of the West “has been reversed.” “Cohabiting partners are having children before getting married,” he said. “That’s a long-term trend across developing nations.” Hermann said the trend in the cultural shift will continue. “We can’t go back to ’50s,” he said. UNFPA is the largest international provider of sexual and reproductive health services – which include abortion. The U.N. agency has been linked to the support of population control programs such as China’s coercive abortion “one-child policy.” Soon after his inauguration in 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that reinstated and updated the “Mexico City Policy,” thereby ending UNFPA’s U.S. funding because of its support and funding of abortion.)
