(FROM THE ARTICLE: The sound of music from marching bands filled the air in Naperville as thousands of people lined the streets to wave flags and cheer as they say their unofficial goodbye to summer. But with the drums of the November election beating louder every day, politicians were shifting gears into their busy season. Governor Rauner was shaking hands, and shaking off any talk of him not being for Illinois workers. “We’ve lost a lot of good paying jobs in this state for decades, we’ve been one of the slowest growing states and now the state’s around us are growing their union jobs and all their good paying jobs much faster than Illinois. We’ve got to be pro-worker by being pro-growth, pro-investment and pro-job creation,” Rauner said. JB Pritzker, Rauner’s rival, attacked the governor for his anti-union efforts at a labor picnic in Rock Island. “He’s about getting rid of unions, he’s about lowering the standard of living of people across the state of Illinois. We’ve got to create jobs in the state there’s no doubt about it, but if we don’t preserve our labor unions while we’re creating jobs we’re doing it wrong,” Pritzker said. In the 6th District Congressional race, which Democrats nationally have targeted to flip, Sean Casten was apologizing for comments that surfaced last week where he was heard comparing President Trump to Osama Bin Laden – but he was not apologizing for the underlying message. “We should be very afraid of a President who uses the tool that demagogues throughout history have used to say, if you are afraid, if you are disempowered, your problem is someone who doesn’t look like you and I’ll fix that,” Casten said. Incumbent Peter Roskam, who championed the President’s tax cut earlier this year, said he was not taking this race for granted. “But I think my opponent has a lot to answer for comparing the President to Osama Bin Laden and advocating nearly every tax hike conceivable,” Roskam said.)

WILL COUNTY GAZETTE
— Crete Monee Community Unit School District 201U students suspended 1,815 times in a single school year (DIERSEN: Since you graduated from high school, how has that high school’s reputation changed?)
https://willcountygazette.com/stories/511548567-crete-monee-community-unit-school-district-201u-students-suspended-1-815-times-in-a-single-school-year
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Crete Monee Community Unit School District 201U reported 1,815 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education. The district transferred six students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them. According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 1,815 students during the year. That equates to 37 percent of the 4,910 students enrolled. Of the 1,108 in-school suspensions, 774 were given to boys and 334 were given to girls, including 781 elementary or middle schoolers and 327 high schoolers. The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 1,092 incidents. There were six incidents of tobacco. For 924 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less. Of the 707 out-of-school suspensions, 504 were given to boys and 203 were given to girls, including 456 elementary or middle schoolers and 251 high schoolers. The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 672 incidents. There were 17 incidents of drugs. For 325 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.)

DAILY CALLER
— THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO HOLD MORE FEDERAL EMPLOYEES ACCOUNTABLE FOR MISCONDUCT – Rep. Louie Gohmert, Texas 1st District (DIERSEN: Government is nasty. Politics is nasty. While my Democrat superiors in the federal government never charged me with “misconduct” or “ineptitude” or being a “bad actor,” my critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that misconduct and ineptitude and being a bad actor were the reasons why they took adverse actions against me, and a) NOT because I complained about political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation and b) NOT because I became an active member in a class action lawsuit in 1988 when I was 40 years old that charged them with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.)
https://dailycaller.com/2018/09/03/more-federal-employees-accountable-for-misconduct/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: In our current system, the process for removing these bad actors is nearly impossible. According to data obtained by FedScope, only 0.5 percent of federal employees have been fired in recent years for poor performance or misconduct. Meanwhile, a 2015 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report revealed that once a decision is made to fire a federal employee, removing them from office can take between six months to a year, if not longer. Draining the swamp is not just fiscally responsible, it is absolutely essential to creating a lasting climate of accountability in our nation’s capital – which is the real battle we are fighting. Washington dysfunction runs deep. True change must uproot systemic injustices and remove those in government who perpetuate them. Meanwhile, all of us in government must begin insisting upon excellence and stop incentivizing ineptitude. This is the essence of the MERIT (Modern Employment Reform, Improvement, and Transformation) Act — a piece of legislation I am proud to co-sponsor. The MERIT Act allows for the expedited removal of federal employees who have either engaged in misconduct or who are failing to perform their duties. It also expedites the appeals process in the event these employees protest their termination.)
