TRIBUNE STAR
— OUTSTANDING: Clark County may opt out of marijuana sales   Edgar County, cities of Marshall, Paris await further study – Dave Taylor (DIERSEN: Who is taking the lead to stop the sale of pot a) in your municipality and b) in the unincorporated areas of your county? All of the following should be lining up to speak out against pot at public hearings: Republican activists, Republican candidates, Republican elected officials, Republican party leaders, Republican major donors, Republican political consultants, business leaders, religious leaders, healthcare leaders, education leaders, law enforcement leaders, etc.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Clark County could become the first local government in Illinois to ban the sale of marijuana under legislation that permits recreational use of cannabis statewide effective Jan. 1 but includes an “opt out” provision for local communities. In mid-May, while the measure was still under debate in Springfield but before it passed, Clark County Board member Jim Bolin raised the issue of a local prohibition and said he would have an appropriate resolution prepared. Bolin was out of the country last week and not available for comment. County Clerk Laura Lee said no resolution is available for review yet but the matter is on the agenda for the board’s next meeting, which will be at 8 a.m. Friday. Any ban imposed by the board would apply only in unincorporated areas of the county, covering about 48 percent of the total population of about 16,000. It would also apply only to the sale of marijuana and not its use.)
