NBC5
— OUTSTANDING: Wheaton Sixth-Safest City in U.S. – James Neveau  (DIERSEN: Wheaton is safe and prosperous because of conservative Republicans. Wheaton is the DuPage County Seat. U.S. Congressman Peter Roskam, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti, Illinois Representative Jeanne Ives, DuPage County Recorder Fred Bucholz, DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba, DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen, DuPage County Treasurer Gwen Henry, DuPage County Board Members Robert Larsen, Grant Eckhoff, and Amy Grant, DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner Tim Whelan, DuPage County Republican Party Treasurer Gwen Henry, Milton Township Highway Commissioner Gary Muehlfelt, Clerk Gail Hinkle, and Trustee Martin Keller, and Appellate Court Judges Ann Jorgensen and Joe Birkett live in Wheaton. Republicans who represent Wheaton include Illinois Senators Mike Connelly and Chris Nybo and Illinois Representative Peter Breen.)
http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/wheaton-palatine-among-safest-cities-in-united-states-new-ranking-says-438607213.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: That ranking, compiled by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, features numerous Chicago suburbs, with Wheaton ranking as the sixth-safest city in the United States. The ranking cites Wheaton College and the Cosley Zoo as two of the biggest attractions in the city, and also cites the high number of churches in the community. Four more Illinois cities are in the top 20 in the ranking, with Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, and Palatine ranking 15th through 17th, respectively. Mount Prospect rounds out the top 20. Des Plaines (35), Naperville (41), Tinley Park (46), Oak Lawn (79), and Bolingbrook (86) all appeared on the extensive list.)
— Rauner Names New Lead for DC Team – Mary Ann Ahern  (DIERSEN: If you taught a course, how would your critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes anonymously rate you?  What do you base your knowledge of the federal government on?  I worked for the federal government for almost 30 years. While I worked for GAO for almost 18 years, the last 11 years of which at the GS-13 Step 1-10 levels, currently, $94,610-$122,991, I worked on audits of federal financial industry regulators for almost 9 years, audits of many other federal agencies for almost 6 years, and audits of IRS for 3 years. I worked for IRS for almost 9 years, the last 5 1/2 years of which at the GS-12 Step 1-5 levels, currently, $79,563-$90,173.  The aforesaid experience helped me become a Certified Government Financial Manager.)
http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-room/Rauner-Names-New-Lead-for-DC-Team-438623933.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Gov. Bruce Rauner announced Friday he’s chosen Sam Pfister to lead his Washington DC team. Pfister replaces Kathy Lydon, who had served Illinois in DC for years dating back to Sen. Charles Percy. Lydon quit three weeks ago as the governor overhauled his staff and more than two dozen of his inner circle were either fired or quit in protest. Pfister will be paid $75,000. Pfister’ most event job is four years as the associate director of state outreach for the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. The think tank was founded by Richard Fink, who heads the Koch Industries lobbying group in Washington, DC. Charles Koch is also a board member of the Center. The Wall Street Journal has called the Mercatus Center “the most important think tank you’ve never head of.” The Koch brothers have given more than 100 million to conservative and libertarian policy and advocacy groups. Rauner has also hired a deputy director of communications Beth Tomev. She started earlier this week, but no announcement was made. She will be paid $117,000. Tomev has been a public affairs consultant, worked at Fox News Chicago, as Walter Jacobson’s producer, and taught communications and journalism classes at Columbia College and Loyola University. “I did not know what I was getting into when I took Tomev’s class,” according to a review of Tomev on Rate My Professor. “Her lectures are nonsensical, she takes up class time with irrelevant stories, grades unreasonably tough without providing clear expectations for assignments, and has purposely ambiguous exam questions that can tank your grade. All for an intro course. Would not recommend to anyone.”)

DAILY HERALD
— Jobless rate raises question: How much better can it get? – AP (DIERSEN: The lower that unemployment is, the more that employers are pressured a) to pay higher salaries and b) to hire, retain, and promote those who they disapprove of, namely, those who are Trump supporters, Protestant, conservative, Republican, American, White, male, older, rich, gun owners, German American, draft avoiders (except Bill Clinton), and/or those whose ancestors have been in America for a long time. GAO hired me in 1980 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, younger person, or veteran who would take the job.  IRS hired me in 1971 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.  The Post Office hired me in 1966 because it could not find a qualified Democrat, minority, female, or veteran who would take the job.)
