CHICAGO TRIBUNE

— Cowardice, cynicism animate opposition to Quinn’s referendum on term limits – Eric Zorn (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes who promote term limits stress how much better off the following are without me having any kind of leadership role: TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, Milton Township Republican Central Committee, Illinois Center Right Coalition, and American Association of Political Consultants Midwest Chapter.)

— City Council’s latest anti-business slap – Editorial (DIERSEN: Have worked part-time? I washed dishes part-time 1964-1966; cleaned golf shoes and pumped gasoline part-time in 1966; delivered mail part-time 1966-1969; worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard part-time in 1970; and pumped gasoline part-time 1971-1972. To force me to resign in 1969, my Democrat Park Forest Post Office superiors said that I would not be available to work enough hours even though I was available to work each and every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, holiday, and every day that NIU was not in session. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, and/or a veteran.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion/editorials/ct-edit-aldermen-schedule-fair-workweek-20180807-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The ordinance would require Chicago employers to post work schedules for their employees at least two weeks in advance. Employers would be required to pay their employees for at least one hour extra if the schedule changed or work was added or subtracted. Companies also could face fines of $500 for each employee affected in each pay period if they fail to comply. If employers make changes with 24 hours’ notice or less to on-call workers, the workers would have to be compensated. Companies with hourly employees or salaried workers earning less than $50,000 annually would be affected. That would sweep thousands of Chicago businesses under the new rules, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce says. There’s a lot more heavy-handedness in the 17-page ordinance affecting hiring, part-time workers and flexibility. Before they begin work, for example, new hires must be given in writing the median number of hours they can expect to work and a list of days and times they will not be expected to work.)

— For now, Army suspends discharges of immigrant recruits – AP (DIERSEN: Constructively, my Democrats GAO superiors discharged me in 1997 and my Democrat Post Office superiors discharged me in 1969. They would not have done that if I had been a Democrat, a minority, a female, or a veteran.)
https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20180809/for-now-army-suspends-discharges-of-immigrant-recruits
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The U.S. Army has stopped discharging immigrant recruits who enlisted seeking a path to citizenship — at least temporarily. A memo shared with The Associated Press on Wednesday and dated July 20 spells out orders to high-ranking Army officials to stop processing discharges of men and women who enlisted in the special immigrant program, effective immediately. It was not clear how many recruits were impacted by the action, and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the memo. “Effective immediately, you will suspend processing of all involuntary separation actions,” read the memo signed by Acting Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Marshall Williams.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Controversial Fox News host Laura Ingraham is once again the target of criticism, this time over comments she made about the country’s changing demographic landscape, which she blamed on illegal — and legal — immigration. “Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people, and they are changes that none of us ever voted for, and most of us don’t like,” Ingraham said on The Ingraham Angle on Wednesday night, noting that “it does seem like the America that we know and love doesn’t exist anymore.” “From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically, in some ways, the country has changed,” Ingraham continued. “Now, much of this is related to both illegal, and in some cases legal, immigration that, of course, progressives love.”)
