— RNC 2020: Republicans to host scaled-back convention with some in-person events 2 Illinois delegates heading to Charlotte for roll call vote Monday – Craig Wall
https://abc7chicago.com/rnc-2020-republican-national-convention-kickoff/6384947/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Laura Pollastrini, a 14th District delegate, was looking forward to her first convention. “We went from North Carolina, then canceled North Carolina to Jacksonville, and then Jacksonville got canceled, and now we’re all sitting at home. So it’s really frustrating for us,” Pollastrini said. “Having it on the camera doesn’t hurt us. It actually, in a way, it expands our viewership, it expands how many people could actually be involved,” said George Pearson, Will County Republican chairman. Pearson is planning watch parties with supporters at the headquarters office in Crest Hill. Due to coronavirus concerns, only two Illinois delegates are actually going to Charlotte for the roll call vote on Monday where they will formally nominate the President. Testing, face coverings and social distancing will be required. Illinois Republican Party chairman Tim Schneider is one of delegates who will attend the convention. “The RNC sent out COVID tests to every member that’s attending the Charlotte convention. I had to test negative to go to Charlotte. I also have to do a self-test every day and go online and reflect all my symptoms every day,” Schneider said. Delegates also are not concerned with the polls, pointing to how wrong they were four years ago with Hillary Clinton and seeing a silent majority out there that will support the President. “Because there’s so much negativity that’s being put out by the media, that people aren’t going to, they’re not going to answer polls, neighbors aren’t going to talk to neighbors, they’re not going to tell who they’re going to be voting for, come this election,” said Lori Yokohama, a Republican delegate for Chicago’s 1st District. President Trump is reportedly very eager to make sure the Republican convention has a very different look and feel than the virtual DNC, with small crowds at some events. He’s even making plans to give his acceptance speech from the White House lawn.)

CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— FRONT PAGE TOP OF FOLD: Illinois Republicans sense momentum against Democrats but uncertain how to deliver their message – RICK PEARSON
https://www.chicagotribune.com/politics/ct-illinois-delegates-republican-national-convention-20200824-5tgjwte2d5bo5axf6pcjkunxyq-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: For Roger Claar, who retired at the end of July as Bolingbrook’s mayor after a tenure he proudly touts as 33 years, eight months and seven days, the planned trip to Charlotte, North Carolina, was “going to be my big swan song” to politics. For the longtime member of Illinois’ GOP State Central Committee, it was to have been his last Republican National Convention after at least eight previous trips — a last chance to buy “shirts, hats, salt shakers, whistles, buttons, banners” and other memorabilia for his vast collection. “I’m obviously going to miss the chance to get the latest and greatest and be the only kid on your block that owns it,” the 74-year-old Claar said. But in the age of COVID-19 and a variety of fits and starts, the Republican National Convention that kicks off Monday will be held largely in a virtual digital setting just as the recently completed Democratic convention. Unlike the Democratic convention, where states’ delegates were told to stay home as former Vice President Joe Biden was nominated for president, Republicans are allowing 336 delegates to actually go to the host city, representing the 50 states, plus territories. Illinois GOP State Chairman Tim Schneider and Richard Porter, the state’s Republican National Committeeman, will attend. Demetra Demonte, the state’s Republican National Committeewoman, had planned to go but opted out for family health reasons. That leaves the rest of the 67-member delegation, all pledged to President Donald Trump’s renomination based on the state’s March 17 primary results, in a bit of quandary. Unlike the state’s Democrats, who met virtually for a rally session before each night’s prime-time festivities, the state GOP delegation’s schedule has become a work in progress. “I have no idea what to expect,” said Illinois Senate Republican leader Bill Brady of Bloomington, an at-large delegate. “I’ll be getting together with some colleagues to watch the convention and we’ll talk and see. But I just have no idea what to expect out of this, given the framework.” Other delegates said they are attempting to organize convention “watch parties” and Porter, en route to Charlotte, said “you can put together Zoom meetings in 15 minutes, so I do think at the end of the day there will be some of that.”)

— Plenty of Republicans will be in attendance at the four-day Republican National Convention—including Illinois delegates Richard Porter, a Chicago attorney and GOP national committeeman, and Illinois GOP Chairman Tim Schneider. They’re in Charlotte, N.C., where the business portion of the convention will take place. Other live speakers will appear from Washington. “Everyone is very upbeat. We’re pumped,” Porter told Playbook after he arrived in Charlotte over the weekend. “We’ve accepted the fact that we’re not doing the big shindig but we’re still upbeat. We’re pumped.” He expects the next four days to reveal the “stark” differences between “the Democrats’ dark vision of an America that’s systematically evil and our vision of an America that’s fundamentally good. I think people are looking forward to making the case and showing that contrast.” Illinois’ delegates: Along with Porter and Schneider, they are Reps. Darin LaHood and Mike Bost, state Rep. Andrew Chesney of Freeport, Black Conservative Foundation President Diante Johnson, Will County GOP Chairman George Pearson, 41st Ward Committeewoman Ammie Kessem, Palatine Township Committeeman Aaron Del Mar, and congressional candidates Mary Miller for the 15th District and Jesus Solorio Jr. in the 4th. . .Illinois voice among convention speakers: Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, an Illinois native, takes the stage tonight, along with former U.N. https://www.worldtribune.com/washington-post-outraged-that-white-house-allows-conservative-outlets-at-press-briefings/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The Washington Post, the news outlet which amplified one of the biggest political hoaxes in American history, is calling out conservative-leaning news outlets for allegedly amplifying hoaxes. The Post complained in two recent articles that The Gateway Pundit, The Epoch Times and One America News Network (OANN), three conservative sites that it says are “amplifying hoaxes,” were allowed into White House press briefings given by President Donald Trump. The Post won a Pulitzer Prize for amplifying the Trump-Russia hoax. Many have called on it to return the prize. The Post opined in its news pages that “The White House press corps just got a little more Trump-friendly, thanks to a bit of maneuvering by the White House itself.” The Jeff Bezos-owned “newspaper” says the conservative outlets are being unjustly given special treatment at Trump’s press briefings at which the preponderance of “journalists” present represent anti-Trump corporate media monopolies. During one recent briefing that particularly set off the Post, Gateway Pundit reporter Alicia Powe was called on to ask a question of Trump. Powe asked the president about Joe Biden attempting to take credit for the Trump administration’s brokering of the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE. Powe “asked one of the only sensible questions during the entire presidential press conference,” Gateway Pundit founder Jim Hoft noted. In another article, the Post was irate that Trump fielded questions at his Aug. 13 press briefing from The Epoch Times and OANN. As for OANN, the cancel culture mavens at the Washington Post have complained many times about the network. The Post summed it up in a June headline about OANN: “When Fox News disappoints, Trump has a backup”. “The far left media STILL believes they are entitled to promote the news narrative in America today,” Hoft said. “These far left dinosaurs have failed to keep up with the times. They have failed to look within at their own shortcomings.” Hoft asked: Will the Washington Post ever apologize to their readers for promoting the Trump-Russia collusion lies? Will the Washington Post ever apologize to their readers for their false attacks on the Covington Catholic school boys? Will the Washington Post ever honestly report on Joe Biden’s cognitive decline? “The American public have seen through the constant lies of the far left mainstream media,” Hoft said. “And, although the White House Correspondents’ Association believe they own the news coming from the White House — They don’t!”)
