KANE COUNTY CHRONICLE
— Two committee chairmen sent Kane County Board Chairman Chris Lauzen a letter ordering him to back off from trying to direct day-to-day operations of county departments or department heads. – BRENDA SCHORY
https://www.kcchronicle.com/2020/08/06/county-board-members-tell-lauzen-to-back-off-from-supervising-county-employees/atc6fn5/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: ‘I don’t work for them’ Lauzen said he works six days a week while county board members come in six to eight times per month – so how could they possibly know what is happening day-to-day in the county? “Being County Board Chairman is so much more than cutting ribbons and running meetings,” Lauzen said. “I have weekly manager meetings with all department directors to help those managers – not only to help them in their areas, but also to share information in what is happening and how we can work together.” Lauzen criticized the letter as harsh. “They are going about this in a crude way,” Lauzen said, of Hoscheit and Martin. “I don’t work for them. I work for 532,000 people (of Kane County) and they expect proper behavior.” Lauzen recounted his expertise, being a Harvard MBA, an Illinois CPA, who spent 20 years in the Illinois Senate and who built a multi-million accounting practice in five years. “What you need is somebody like that to produce results to give board members these easy votes,” Lauzen said. “They want to diminish that.”)

— New ordinance aims to add respect in city council – Matt Roy (DIERSEN: I should write a book about those who have attempted to censure me for my including links in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails to articles that they do not like. They paint themselves as being operatives or as being dupes a) for those who have lots of religious, government, political, and/or financial clout in Wheaton’s West District, Wheaton, Milton Township, DuPage County’s 4th District, DuPage County, and/or Illinois; b) for those who were candidates on ballots in my precinct; and/or c) for those who I have sued.)
https://newschannel20.com/news/local/new-ordinance-aims-to-add-respect-in-city-council
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The amended rules allow for the council to punish a fellow alderman with a verbal reprimand or a censure if they deem it necessary. A censure is basically a formal time-out. “Well obviously, Alderman McMenamin made some comments that were taken offensive and he apologized for that, but that is probably what warranted this ordinance to come forth,” Ward 1 Alderman Chuck Redpath said. Redpath thinks this ordinance is worded in a way that will help the council discussions and does not impact free speech or feed the cancel culture. “I think the message is clear that we need to treat the council meetings in a professional integrity manner and I think that you will see that in the future,” Redpath said.)

LEXOLOGY
— Journalism and copyright: what is protected by copyright law in Greece? (DIERSEN: What do you say to my critics/opponents who viciously demonize, viciously denigrate, and viciously condemn my GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails as lacking “original work?” I should write a book about my critics/opponents. They do everything that they can to make work done by others look like it was done by them. They should do what I do, namely, a) highlight the sources of articles, b) highlight the titles of articles, c) highlight the authors of articles, and d) provide the unhidden hyperlinks of articles. It is called full attribution.)
https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=ee0b6ef6-8200-4e98-98ad-f242789959ad

(FROM THE ARTICLE: Greek jurisprudence and legal theory set out that a work is ‘original’ if it has an element of ‘personal intellectual creation’ and reflects the author’s personality. More specifically, a work is an original expression of an individual’s mind when it contains an element of personal contribution and individuality. Another criterion applied by the Greek courts is statistical uniqueness, according to which a work is original when no other author could have created the same work under the same circumstances. According to Article 2(5) of the Copyright Law, copyright protection does not extend to news information or simple facts and data. As such, mere facts and information on current affairs fall outside the scope of protection if they are limited to the reporting of events and contain no element of personal contribution (eg, evaluation, criticism or interpretation). To constitute an original work of intellectual property and thus be protectable under the Copyright Law, a journalistic work must therefore contain an element of individuality and personal contribution, particularly with regard to the selection, composition, elaboration and adaptation of its content.)

Author: David Diersen

The opinions that I express in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails are based on experience that I have gained doing many things since 1948.
