CHICAGO SUN-TIMES
— Before Oscars, Trump attacks New York Times Academy Awards ad – Lynn Sweet  (DIERSEN: What if the Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee passed a resolution by weighted vote calling for Rauner to work with Trump?)
http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/before-oscars-trump-attacks-new-york-times-academy-awards-ad/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: GOV. BRUCE RAUNER’S TRUMP ALLERGY  Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, in Washington for Republican Governors Association meetings on Sunday – remains allergic to anything having to do with Trump and is skipping the Sunday Trump ball at the White House.  A spokesman for the Illinois Republican Party said Rauner was returning to Illinois on Sunday. For the record, as long as I am on Rauner: His political and government spokesmen declined to answer questions about why Rauner skipped the National Governors Association conference but did come to D.C. to huddle with the RGA – the political organization which exists to elect GOP governors.)

— Know your candidates before voting – Michael H. Prueter, Naperville  (DIERSEN: How long has your Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain held that position?  How well does he/she know the candidates?  I have been the DuPage County Milton Township Precinct 9 Republican Committeeman since 1999.  How active is your Republican Precinct Committeeman/Captain in your township/ward/county party organization?  Since 1999, I have the best record by far for attending Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) meetings and events. Sadly, the DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC) does not allow DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeemen to attend its meetings.  However, since 1999, I have one of the best records for attending DCRCC events.  Further, since 1999, I have one of the best records among rank-and-file Republican Precinct Committeemen/Captains for attending Illinois Republican Party (IRP) State Central Committee meetings and events.  I attended the IRP State Party Conventions as a delegate in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016.  I served on the IRP Platform and Resolutions Committee in 2008. The aforesaid, plus my serving as a TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois chairman for almost 7 years 2005-2012, as the MTRCC webmaster for 6 years 2008-2010 and 2000-2004, as an Illinois Center Right Coalition Steering Committee member for 4 years 2003-2007, and as the GOPUSA Illinois Editor since 2000, I have a very strong basis on which to form opinions on Republican activists, Republican candidates, Republican elected officials, Republican party leaders, Republican major donors, Republican political consultants, etc., especially in Wheaton, in Milton Township, and in DuPage County.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/ct-nvs-voice-letters-opinion-st-0226-20170225-story.html
(FROM THE LETTER: Local city and township elections are coming Tuesday. Do people really know who they are voting for? Many people are swayed by signs and advertising but don’t really know the quality and abilities of the candidates. The Naperville Township Low Tax Team has excellent incumbent and new candidates on the slate. Rachel Ossyra is the township supervisor and has done an excellent job of keeping taxes down and services at an optimal level. She has been an international business executive, and develops and maintains budgets, manages the township with professionalism, and has earned the support of the people of Naperville Township. She is an excellent public official and deserves to be re-elected. The team of trustees is also a good mix of incumbents and new people who will represent the township with solid backgrounds in business and public service. As a former GOP chairman, I have worked with many great elected officials and party committeemen and supported many of them. People really need to find out who their elected officials are at every level of government and learn about the candidates. It is their local government and their tax money being spent.)
— Political or politically correct? – Wayne Lela, Downers Grove
http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/naperville-sun/ct-nvs-voice-letters-opinion-st-0226-20170225-story.html
(FROM THE LETTER: Got a kick out of “Toby Keith decried as too ‘political’ for Naperville Ribfest.” I mean, really, we wouldn’t want too much diversity! One big reason Trump handily beat Clinton was that a lot of decent, moral people are getting really fed up with liberal hypocrisy, liberal judgmentalism, liberal self-righteousness, liberal name-calling, liberal violence and hate, liberal intolerance and liberal bullying. We need to encourage the “politically correct” mob to keep opening their mouths so they can make fools of themselves. We’ll keep winning elections, and they can look in the mirror to see the losers that they are.)

BELLEVILLE NEWS DEMOCRAT
— Highest pay in nation not good enough for Illinois workers – Editorial
http://www.bnd.com/opinion/editorials/article134721029.html
(FROM THE EDITORIAL: Someone apparently needs to check the state of Illinois’ email system, because the 38,000 members of the American Federation of State, Callous, Me-First Employees failed to get the three messages from Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner that this state is so broke that we are in a crisis and cannot afford another $3 billion a year in raises. The state’s largest employee union authorized a strike rather than take the same deal 20 other state unions already accepted. They were the nation’s highest-paid state workers at $63,660 in 2015, which is double your private sector average Illinois salary of $32,206. Not to mention, they only work 37.5 hours a week, pay about one-fourth of their platinum health care coverage while taxpayers put in $15,000 a year and their early retirements at age 50 and their premium pensions are the main reasons Illinois taxpayers face a $130 billion liability. It would be interesting to see them strike and watch what happens next. The folks manning the prisons and responsible for law enforcement can’t walk off, so public safety would be OK. Illinois can legally replace striking workers, and Rauner’s office said there are already 18,000 applicants, including 2,000 veterans. The unholy alliance between the state’s Democratic majority and the state employees financing their campaigns is what put us in the $130 billion pension hole and with $12.4 billion in unpaid state bills. We are fools if we make the tax burden even worse in Illinois, which already has the nation’s highest state and local taxes. Jobs and workers are already fleeing Illinois. Missouri gains 20 people a day from Illinois, so which area with the largest population concentration outside Chicagoland stands to suffer the most? Illinois property taxes last year averaged more than double Missouri’s. Missouri just became a right to work state. That rumble you hear is the sound of even more moving vans starting. The thud that follows would be state AFSCME workers refusing to get out of the way.)
