http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20170206/news/170209246/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Last fiscal year, Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti of Wheaton spent a little more than $1.1 million to run her office, according to financial records from the Illinois comptroller’s office. The lieutenant governor position pays $135,669 a year, but Sanguinetti wasn’t paid the full amount in either 2015 or 2016, receiving $120,000 in 2015 and $68,000 in 2016, according to state records. Sanguinetti chaired the Local Government Consolidation and Unfunded Mandates Task Force, which highlighted DuPage County consolidation efforts and made 27 recommendations in December 2015. Sanguinetti “has advocated for consolidation at all levels of government — including her office and other constitutional offices like the Treasurer and Comptroller,” spokeswoman Marcela Cartagena said.)

— What about jobless Americans? – DAVE GORAK, Executive Director, Midwest Coalition to Reduce Immigration
http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170203/ISSUE07/170209930
(FROM THE LETTER: There are some critical elements missing from any discussion about President Donald Trump’s executive order and his threat to withhold federal funding to cities like Chicago that provide “sanctuary” to illegal aliens. First, the federal government cannot “force” local governments to enforce its immigration laws. As long as these cities honor detainers for illegal aliens in their custody and do not prohibit federal agents from doing their jobs, they aren’t likely to lose any federal money because they have not violated 8 U.S. Code Section 1324. Second, why aren’t the defenders of “immigrants” and “refugees” showing equal concern for the 50 million working-age Americans the federal government says are jobless? Why aren’t they demanding to know why the government is permitting 8 million illegal aliens to remain in their payroll jobs in the construction, manufacturing and service industries? Are these jobs Americans won’t do? Not according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which says the majority of those jobs are already being done by Americans. If you haven’t noticed, nobody in or out of Congress, especially the media, can be bothered with such questions. These are issues far more critical in the long run than how much cities like Chicago deserve to lose financially if they are breaking the law.)

— Republican John Cox exploring campaign for California governor – Christopher Cadelago
http://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article131067164.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Cox, a trained certified public accountant and attorney who once ran the Republican Party in Cook County, Illinois, previously mounted long-shot campaigns for the U.S. Senate, where he debated then-Senate candidate Barack Obama in 2003. Five years later, Cox ran for U.S president, reasoning at the time that too often Republicans ran as “conservative when they wanted our votes; only to watch them almost turn into liberals once they were elected.” “I am a long term, dyed-in-the-wool conservative, brought to the Republican Party by Ronald Reagan; believing that government isn’t the answer to our problems, government is the problem,” he wrote at the time. Since moving to California, Cox has settled in Rancho Santa Fe, working to lessen the influence of special-interest money in the Democratically-controlled state.)

— Removal of Federal Employees for Misconduct or Performance – Ralph R. Smith   (DIERSEN: All during the almost 30 years that I worked for the federal government, I blew the whistle on political affiliation discrimination, reverse discrimination, and age discrimination.  In 1988, when I was 40 years old, I became an active member in a class action lawsuit that charged GAO with reverse discrimination, age discrimination, and retaliation.  My Democrat GAO superiors retaliated by forcing me to retire in 1997 when I was 49 years old, by not promoting me beyond GS-13, by keeping me off audits of IRS for all but 3 of the almost 18 years that I worked for GAO, and by forcing me to take an $18,847 pay cut in today’s dollars to transfer from IRS to GAO in 1980.  My Democrat IRS superiors did not promote me beyond GS-12, disallowed my education deductions, and disallowed my partial day per diem claims.  My Democrat Post Office superiors forced me to resign in 1969 and disallowed my sick leave requests.  If I had not blown any whistles, the federal government would have promoted me into its Senior Executive Service long before I was 40 years old.)
