— Illinois sues over rule change in forgiving federal public service student loans. DD: Democrats ever-increasingly break federal laws. While I was a federal employee for almost 30 years, I never broke any federal law. I fully complied with federal laws that required me to give preference to my subordinates who were minority, female, and/or veteran. But that was not enough for my Democrat superiors.
https://chicago.suntimes.com/education/2025/11/03/ag-raoul-21-other-attorneys-general-sue-trump-admin-over-public-service-loan-forgiveness-rule-change
(FROM THE ARTICLE: The U.S. Education Department issued a new rule Friday threatening to deem employers, including state governments, as having “substantial illegal purpose,” and revoking them from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. According to the lawsuit, the Trump administration is going after its usual targets in organizations that “support for immigrants, gender affirming care, DEI initiatives, and political protest.” The loan forgiveness program would wipe out student loans for anyone working an eligible job in public service after they had made 120 monthly loan payments at said job, which would take 10 years. . .Per the new rule, organizations whose employees show a “pattern” of being cited for trespassing, disorderly conduct, public nuisance, vandalism or obstruction of highways — charges often associated with protest and civil disobedience — could have their loan forgiveness status revoked, though “pattern” isn’t defined in the rule change, according to the suit. Employers who provide gender-affirming care to minors also run the risk of being yanked from the loan forgiveness program under the new rule, which cites previous Trump executive orders targeting trans health care.)

https://citizenportal.ai/articles/6016865/Kane-County/Illinois/Treasurer-proposes-resolution-backing-Gwen-Henry-for-IMRF-trustee-colleague-raises-procedure-concerns
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Kane County Treasurer Chris Lauzen presented a proposed resolution on Aug. 27 asking the committee to petition on behalf of DuPage County Treasurer Gwen Henry as a candidate for an open executive trustee seat on the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) board. Lauzen described Henry as a long‑serving DuPage County treasurer with experience in municipal finance and trustee studies; he said having a county friend on IMRF’s board could be beneficial given IMRF’s much larger asset base and influence on actuarial assumptions. “It’s always good to have friends at the table,” Lauzen said during his remarks. Procedural objection: A committee member raised a procedural concern, saying nominations of this type are typically presented first to the county chair for vetting. The chair of the committee acknowledged the concern, accepted responsibility for placing the item on the agenda without prior consultation and apologized to the committee chair. The item was referred to the committee process for potential future consideration. Why it matters: IMRF sets actuarial assumptions and policies that affect employer pension contributions across local governments in Illinois. Committee members noted that board representation and relationships can influence policy conversations important to employers and taxpayers. Next steps: Treasurer Lauzen indicated he offered the draft resolution for committee consideration but the committee did not take final action at the Aug. 27 meeting pending adherence to internal vetting protocol. Committee members emphasized they expect nominations and requests of this nature to be coordinated with the county chair going forward.)

(FROM THE ARTILE: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth previously championed diversity in a 2013 policy brief for Havard’s Kennedy School before knocking it as a crutch for minorities during his current stint in the Trump administration. As a master’s student, Hegseth produced a 47-page brief that advocated for the creation of a multicultural STEM school in Minnesota, according to reports. “Ensuring low-income and minority children have the same opportunities as more affluent majority students is an essential goal and worth pursuing with vigor and substantial investment,” Hegseth wrote almost 12 years ago, according to The Boston Globe, which reviewed the brief. “Our country and state must strive for equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, class, geography, or gender,” he added. The detailed proposal heavily included comments from Democrats, including the late Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman, whom he referenced as a “political champion,” as reported by The Harvard Crimson.)
