We are living longer and therefore outliving our resources. In 1900, the average lifespan was 47 years. Today, AARP reports that a 65-year old is expected to be able to blow out their birthday candles at 85 years of age. Wow, get out and enjoy your retirement. This is great news unless you happen to be an average American, between the age of 55 and 64, who has only accrued $104,000 in retirement savings, according to the June 2015 Government Accountability Office. To sum this up, a longer life span means that 47 percent of the oldest Baby Boomers are at risk of not having enough money for retirement, as reported by Employee Benefit Research Institute. Options are scary. Keep working? Live with the kids? Your choices get limited. We Baby Boomers have not set a great example for the Gen Z’ers who are just getting out of school, entering the workforce and trying to design their own financial futures.)
