Only Firestone Stores offered me a job, and it was for a job that really did not require a college degree. In the name of “training,” my boss used me like I was a car mechanic trainee. All the firms that I applied to were under tremendous pressure from EEOC to hire minorities, females, and veterans. I was not a minority, female, or veteran. To make matters worse, potential employers saw me as being Vietnam War draft bait. They did not believe that my financial hardship draft deferment application would be approved. Beyond that, my GPA was not that great because to work my way through college, I had spent far too many hours delivering mail instead of studying.
