CHICAGO TRIBUNE
— Google expands fact checking in news searches – AP  (DIERSEN: What about slant-check?  Virtually everything on the internet is slanted to promote the Democrat (D) Party platform, the Libertarian (L) Party platform, the Green (G) platform, or the Republican (R) Party platform. If I had more time, I would designate all articles linked in GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails as being D, L, G, and/or R.)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/sns-bc-us-tec–google-news-fact-check-20170407-story.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Google will expand the use of “fact check” tags in its search results — the tech industry’s latest effort to combat false and misleading news stories. People who search for a topic in Google’s main search engine or the Google News section will see a conclusion such as “mostly true” or “false” next to stories that have been fact checked. Google has been working with more than 100 news organizations and fact-checking groups , including The Associated Press, the BBC and NPR. Their conclusions will appear in search results as long as they meet certain formatting criteria for automation. Google said only a few of those organizations, including PolitiFact and Snopes.com, have already met those requirements; The Washington Post also says it complies. Google said it expects the ranks of compliant organizations to grow following Friday’s announcement. Not all news stories will be fact checked. Multiple organizations may reach different conclusions; Google will show those separately. Still unanswered is whether these fact-check analyses will sway people who are already prone to believe false reports because they confirm preconceived notions. Glenn Kessler, who writes “The Fact Checker” column at The Washington Post, said in an email that Google’s efforts should at least “make it easier for people around the world to obtain information that counters the spin by politicians and political advocacy groups, as well as purveyors of ‘fake news.'” He added that “over time, I expect that people increasingly will want to read a fact-check on a controversial issue or statement, even if the report conflicts with their political leanings.” Google started offering fact check tags in the U.S. and the U.K. in October and expanded the program to a handful of other countries in the subsequent months. Now the program is open to the rest of the world and to all languages. False news and misinformation, often masquerading as trustworthy news that spreads on social media, has gained attention since the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Google’s announcement comes a day after Facebook launched a resource to help users spot false news and misleading information that spreads on its service. The resource is basically a notification that pops up for a few days. Clicking on it takes people to tips and other information on how to spot false news and what to do about it.)

ALTON DAILY NEWS
— Revenue Estimate Not Expected This Year – Greg Bishop  (DIERSEN: What revenue estimates for 2017 do the following have: your Republican township/ward party organization, your Republican county party organization, and the Illinois Republican Party? On what do the aforesaid organizations plan to spend that money?)
http://altondailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=17&id=241023#.WOi5WYjyuM8
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Republican state Rep. Keith Wheeler disagreed and said a revenue estimate is the “first step” to budgeting. “You can always amend a revenue estimate, so if we see changes in revenue from whatever stream it may come, or not, we can adjust it as we go along. It’s happened in the past. I checked the records,” Wheeler said. “It’s something we should start with. It’s an easy first step and it shows the taxpayers we actually care about how we spend their money.” Republican state Rep. Avery Bourne said to not have some kind of plan is irresponsible. “Just like you would in your household if you’re expecting to bring in a certain amount, you budget for that. If that changes, you can change your plan but to say that it’s uncertain at the beginning and so we just shouldn’t plan for it is exactly what we should expect out of this General Assembly maybe, but not the right way to do it.” The Illinois state constitution says in Article VIII, Section 2, paragraph (b) the General Assembly “by law shall make appropriations for all expenditures of public funds by the State. Appropriations for a fiscal year shall not exceed funds estimated by the General Assembly to be available during that year.” A state government forecasting group estimates Illinois will bring in just over $31 billion for the coming fiscal year that starts July 1.)

WASHINGTON TIMES
— The false compassion of liberalism  Do-gooders prefer giving away other people’s money rather than their own – Stephen Moore (DIERSEN: I should write a book about liberals in Wheaton, in Glen Ellyn, in Milton Township, in DuPage County, and in Illinois who demonize me, who denigrate me, and who condemn me as someone a) who is undeservedly filthy rich, b) who does not give enough time or money to charities or churches, and c) who does not pay enough taxes. They hint/imply/argue/shout that I am undeservedly filthy rich a) because I was born a healthy White male, b) because my parents were undeservedly filthy rich, c) because I avoided the draft, d) because I have always been grossly overpaid, e) because I got married, and f) because my wife and I gave up trying to have children, we did not adopt, and we did not become foster parents.)
