INDEPENDENT JOURNAL REVIEW
— Left-Wing Judge Eliminates Work Requirements for Welfare Programs – ANDREW FORCIER (DIERSEN: Of course, my critics/opponents paint my Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) pension and my Social Security as being welfare. They would love it if they could require me to work to continue to get my CSRS pension and my Social Security. They would stress my being able to put GOPUSA ILLINOIS emails together and send them out every day as proof that I am able-bodied. What type of work would they want me to do? Would it be appropriate for someone with my work experience, education, professional certifications, and professional license?)
https://ijr.com/2018/07/1108510-judge-eliminates-medicaid-work-requirement/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: One of the most commonly agreed-upon approaches to welfare programs is to require an able-bodied person to work when they can, or at least put forth the effort to demonstrate they are in pursuit of gainful employment. Twenty years ago, the idea was so universally accepted that even then-President Bill Clinton signed off on legislation adding an element of personal responsibility to welfare programs. He even had campaigned in 1992 to “end welfare as we have come to know it.” Such requirements have, of late, been a staple of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and even a majority of Democrats can agree that those who are able to work should have to in order to receive benefits.)

CNBC
— Here’s how much Supreme Court justices get paid – Yoni Blumberg
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/10/how-much-supreme-court-justices-get-paid.html
(FROM THE ARTICLE: President Donald Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on Monday. If confirmed, Kavanaugh, 53, will become one of the most powerful and influential people in government for what could be decades, and he’ll lock in a healthy six-figure salary, too. Kavanaugh currently serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, where judges make $220,600 a year, according to the U.S. Courts website. Associate justices on the Supreme Court make $255,300, while the Chief Justice, currently John Roberts, makes $267,000. These salaries usually increase by $2,000-$3,000 each year. A seat on the court comes with some desirable benefits. Federal judges have the option to enroll in insurance plans through the Federal Employee Health Benefits system, whose website claims it offers “the widest selection of health plans in the country.” And justices can look forward to a generous retirement package. If they retire at 70 after serving 10 years, or at 65 after serving 15 years, they qualify for an annual pension equal to their highest full salary. There is also a summer break when court isn’t in session between July and October. It’s not exactly a vacation, as justices use the summer to prepare for cases scheduled for the fall, but it is when they do most of their traveling, much of which is subsidized, and when they lecture and teach for extra pay. Former justice Antonin Scalia reported going on 28 separate trips to lecture and teach in 2013, and Clarence Thomas earned more than $27,000 in 2015 for lectures at Brigham Young University, Creighton University and George Washington University. Justices have other streams of income, too. Stephen Breyer, for example, reported $45,000 in royalties in 2016 from his book, “The Court and the World,” while Sonia Sotomayor has earned millions for her 2013 memoir, “My Beloved World.” And, of course, some justices invest. When the Supreme Court took a patent case involving Cisco in 2015, Breyer had to sit out because he owns up to $100,000 in Cisco stock. At least six, and perhaps all, of the sitting Supreme Court justices are millionaires, the Center for Public Integrity found after analyzing 2016 financial disclosures. With an estimated net worth just over $6 million, Breyer is the wealthiest justice, with the possible exception of Gorsuch, since when the report was published Gorsuch had yet to disclose his finances for that year. His 2015 disclosure, however, indicated he was worth between $3.1 million and $7.2 million, the Center reported. Kavanaugh claimed to have up to $65,000 in assets, which doesn’t necessarily include items such as cars or mortgages, in a recent financial filing, as well $27,500 in non-investment income on top of his salary, reports Money. The house he shares with his wife and two daughters is valued at $1 million.)

WASHINGTON POST
— Seven Americans on patriotism, protest and the president – Jenna Johnson (DIERSEN: My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes remain furious that because sought and obtained student draft deferments 1966-1970 and a financial hardship draft deferment 1970-1971, I got almost 3 years of full-time Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) credit when I paid CSRS in the 1990s 7% of the salary that I had earned 1966-1969 working part-time for the Park Forest Post Office. That meant that I got both Social Security credit and CSRS credit for those almost 3 years. (FROM THE ARTICLE: Standing in the crowd was Jane Pettinger, a 57-year-old college professor holding a cardboard sign decorated with two flags and the words “TRUE PATRIOT.” “Serving your country rather than deferring the draft or being a draft dodger — that’s patriotism,” said Pettinger, who was in the U.S. Air Force for 7½ years and is critical of Trump for requesting draft deferments during the Vietnam War. “Standing up for democracy, making America actually what it stands for again — that’s democracy, that’s patriotism. Supporting a guy who simply wants to tear us down — that is not pro-USA, that is not patriotism.”)

https://businessrecord.com/Content/Opinion/Opinion/Article/Guest-Opinion-How-to-run-a-positive-political-campaign/168/963/83117
(FROM THE ARTICLE: What’s negative? Launching personal attacks on your opponent. That practice should have been left behind in junior high (or as it’s now called, middle school). Defining your opponent with derogatory labels and slogans. They are not informative and they insult the voters’ intelligence and sensibilities. Demonizing your opponent. This practice only demeans the one doing it. Taking words and phrases out of context and twisting their meanings. This practice should be beneath the dignity of honest candidates and parties. Manipulating your opponent’s visual image is a similar form of deceit.)

RAW STORY
— DIERSEN HEADLINE: An anti-Trump says “Here is how draft-dodger Trump dishonors the troops.” My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes remain furious that because sought and obtained student draft deferments 1966-1970 and a financial hardship draft deferment 1970-1971, I got almost 3 years of full-time Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) credit when I paid CSRS in the 1990s 7% of the salary that I had earned 1966-1969 working part-time for the Park Forest Post Office. That meant that I got both Social Security credit and CSRS credit for those almost 3 years. My critics/opponents, their operatives, and their dupes have always hinted/implied/argued/shouted that I SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN VIETNAM instead of a) driving a new 1966 Pontiac Tempest Sprint 1966-1967, b) driving a new 1968 Oldsmobile 442 in 1968, c) driving a new 1969 Dodge Charger SE 1969-1971, d) driving a new 1972 Corvette since 1971, e) attending classes at UIC 1966-1968, f) attending classes at NIU 1969-1970, g) attending classes at Loyola 1972-1976, h) buying a new town home in 1972, i) buying a studio condo in the Outer Drive East building in 1974, j) buying a one bedroom condo in that building in 1976, k) going on vacations in Florida in 1969 and 1970, l) going on vacations in the Bahamas in 1971 and in Mexico, Jamaica, Hawaii, and the Bahamas 1973-1976, m) etc. Back then, Vietnam veterans were called “baby killers.” What is your comment on the aforesaid?)

CHICAGO PRIDE
— Equality Illinois, LGBT groups react to nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court (DIERSEN: Needless-to-say, because he is running as a Republican, Rauner should sign a pledge that he will defend and advance all the planks in the Illinois Republican Party platform, including its traditional family, right to life, immigration, and Second Amendment planks.)
