— How to Close the Networking Gap. Businesses and nonprofits aim to help students whose backgrounds put them at a disadvantage in building professional contacts. — Ben Wildavsky
(COMMENT: What networking advantages did you have while you were earning your bachelor’s degree? I graduated from Crete-Monee High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor’s degree in management from NIU in 1970. Neither of my outstanding parents attended college. My father was the first of his ancestors to earn a high school diploma. He fought type 1 diabetes from childhood, worked in the office of a nasty chemical plant in Chicago Heights, almost always worked second jobs to pay the family’s bills, and died suddenly in 1969 when he was 47 and I was 21. My mother never attended high school. I washed dishes for the minimum wage 1964-1966; cleaned golf shoes, chipped slag, and pumped gasoline during the summer of 1966; delivered mail in Park Forest 1966-1969; and worked on an automobile assembly line and as a security guard in early 1970. My parents provided me with room and board 1966-1968, weekends during my first semester at NIU in 1969, and the summer of 1969. The aforesaid provided me with very few opportunities to network. I was draft bait. I accepted the only job offer that I received, to be the Retail Sales Manager for the Firestone Store in Chicago Heights.)

— Democrats, Republicans view precinct committeemen in very different lights. – JEREMY DUDA
(COMMENT: In Illinois, State Central Committee (SCC) members lead the Democrat and Republican parties. Democrat SCC members are directly elected by Democrat primary voters. But Republican SCC members are elected by Chicago ward party chairmen, Cook County township party chairmen, and precinct committeemen. At the Illinois Republican Party'(IRP) State Convention in 2008, I unsuccessfully fought hard for direct election of IRP SCC members. I should write a book about those who continue to destroy me because I did that. I would focus on past and present IRP officers and SCC members. Who will run to be the IRP SCC member for the new 3rd Congressional District?)
https://www.azmirror.com/2022/03/18/democrats-republicans-view-precinct-committeemen-in-very-different-lights/
(FROM THE ARTICLE: Once people realized this month that a bill the legislature unanimously approved eliminated elections for precinct committeemen, activists began hounding Republican lawmakers to reverse course, which they moved to do almost immediately. Angry precinct committeemen filled legislative hearing rooms as lawmakers debated bills to restore their elections for this year. One GOP senator told them they were the most important elected officials in America. A House Republican compared them to George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere. Republican legislators vowed to revive the elections for precinct committeemen, whom they lauded as the backbone of the party’s activist base.)
